Dalton provided expert commentary about the area, even pointing out a few celebrity homes and yachts along the way. It was a gorgeous ride over to Shell Key, and we even saw a few dolphins along the way. Once on the island, we had about 45-50 minutes to explore the beaches and do a little snorkeling and shell-hunting. The island is aptly named, with rows and piles of shells along its white, sandy beaches. The water was warm and perfect for swimming. Soon enough we were back on board and heading back to the harbor. And that's when the magic happened: dolphins! Following along in our wake, and no doubt attracted to the enthusiastic squeals of one of our dolphin-loving fellow passengers, the dolphins put on quite a show. Even Dalton, who I assume sees a LOT of dolphins, was impressed by how long they followed in our wake and performed jumps and flips for us. It was truly one of the most remarkable experiences of my life! Thank you Dalton and Island Ferry for an amazing and memorable tour and one of the true highlights of our vacation!

Groups are small and the boats are very comfortable. They use pontoon boats so you have shade, which I definitely appreciated. The beach they took us to to snorkeling was gorgeous.

We had an absolutely incredible experience with C Ponies, and I can't recommend them enough--especially if you're looking for something unique, meaningful, and truly unforgettable. What makes this experience so special goes far beyond just "riding horses on the beach." These are rescue horses--many of them coming from difficult or neglectful situations--and C Ponies has created something really beautiful by giving them a second chance at life. You can feel how deeply loved and well cared for these horses are. They are healthy, happy, and genuinely seem to enjoy their work. One of the most fascinating parts was learning that the water is actually healing for them. Being in the ocean supports their joints and overall wellness, so this experience isn't just fun for us--it's beneficial for them, too. That alignment made the entire experience feel even more special and ethical. Our guide, Raina, was fantastic. She had the perfect mix of humor (yes, some delightfully corny jokes), warmth, and knowledge. More importantly, you could tell she truly loves these horses and what she does. She made everyone feel comfortable, safe, and engaged the entire time. Walking the horses into the water--and even getting to experience them swimming--was surreal. Each horse had its own personality, which made it even more fun. You could tell they were relaxed, confident, and happy to be there. It didn't feel forced or transactional--it felt like a partnership between humans and animals. Living in Sarasota, it also meant a lot to support a business that is doing such meaningful work in our own SW Florida community. C Ponies is not only creating unforgettable experiences, but they are actively rescuing, rehabilitating, and giving these horses a life filled with purpose and care. If you're on the fence--book it. It's one of those rare experiences that stays with you long after it's over.

My husband discovered this home on it and decided to make a trip out here on a Tuesday afternoon, around 1:30 pm. I had emailed one of the owners (Carol) and made a phone call earlier but unfortunately had not heard a response. On a whim, my husband decided to just knock on the door and ask if we could have a tour. To our surprise, Blake answered the door and was more than happy to offer us a tour of his home. According to Blake, his wife, Carol, had just had cataract surgery and so she was not able to join in on this tour (which also made sense why I had not heard from her via email. However I do want to mention that she did email me back the next day after this tour visit). I want to briefly talk about both this highly talented husband and wife team. Carol Sackman has a background in art and Blake White is a self taught artist. Their home is covered with objects that include antique button jewelry, mosaic tiling, glass and dishware. There is a lot of Asian pieces used for some of the sculptures and covering on the the walls. This labor of love took about 15 years to make and this couple still have plans to continue adding to it all. Blake started out telling us about some of the artwork he and his wife had made on the front porch and then lead us to the side of the home where we saw a few bird baths and a large Saint Bernard dog (which he referred to as the guard dog). Here it was where Blake just briefly talked about "Brother Can You Spare A Dime" panel that he made for the St. Petersburg Folk Festival. This panel expresses how he feels about corporate greed. Another panel we come to was made by Carol. Blake had said that one of her friends had breast cancer and just wanted her friends to get together and create some art. Once in a while, some of their pieces here around the house may be collaborated with their friends but most of it was created by the 2 of them. Blake eventually led us to the backyard where there are still even more colorful panels. I especially love the tree of life panel that is in the middle of the back of the house. Blake also shows us his art studio, which is different from Carol's. Blake really likes to dabble with doing his own tile glazing (in which he has 2 large ovens, or kilns, in the corner of his studio) and tells us about what has inspired him to decorate his studio. Later on he takes us to Carol's studio, which has a different vibe and creativity. Carol likes to paint on fabric and also likes to use buttons and other types of objects in her art. We were told that they also like to teach art classes in their home and will travel (mostly in the summer) to various art shows to try to sell some of their art (they consider their art to be folk art style). After that, we are taken inside the house from the back entrance. Here we see Blake's bathroom, which of course he also decorates to the same style of the outside of the home. Later on when we come to the kitchen, we see coffee cups and sauces made out of tiles on the walls and flooring and coffee stenciled all along the counters. Blake and Carol are big time coffee lovers (and love cats as well, as Blake said they had about 9 or so cats). We eventually make our way to the living room where Blake shares a few stories with us about some personal items that are in the room (like a painting and this boat that was brought back from China from a good friend). And then we conclude the tour outside, right back on his front porch. Blake tells us that the arch way that is in front of their home was made by their friend Bruce. He made it out of wood and this talented couple just started decorating it. On the front of the arch way, at the top, has words "Changes Make Waves". On one side of the arch are pink letters that spell out Carol's mother's name and some of her friends, in a way to honor them. We were told that pets are also honored too. After the tour, Blake more than welcomed me to stay and take all the photos that I wanted and to take my time to look at everything. My husband and I (and I'm sure our little girl too) felt so honored to have a tour by Blake and truly enjoyed learning about him and Carol and their inspiration for creating their home. If you are looking for something out of the box, consider checking out the Mosaic Art House. If you are interested in a (free) tour, you can email Carol, carolblakeart@gmail.com or call 727-736-4036.

We were excited to learn about the history of Ybor City as well as its blended culture and the amazing food. We were not disappointed. Kristie's knowledge of the city and its history is unsurpassed. This could have been a historical tour instead of a foodie tour. It is that in depth. Now the food. I hope you brought your appetite. We started at Café Quiquiriqui with the local staple - the Cuban sandwich. The pressed Cuban bread was crunchy on the outside and tender on the inside. The layers of mustard, pickles, cheese, pulled pork, ham and salami were perfect. Then we moved to The Bricks for The Rooster - a rice bowl with shredded chicken, tomato, pickled red onion, roasted red pepper and mixed greens served over rice with a cilantro lime aioli. Delicious! Fresh and crisp with flavors that pop! We then started a big portion of the history tour. We visited José Martí Park (Isla de Cuba) - a park that is actually Cuban soil inside of the United States. Amazing history at this location. From there, we moved to the cigar factory district and visited the museum quality displays inside the lobby of the Scientology building. We made our way to the Ybor City Visitors Center where we watched a brief video on the history the city and picked up a few souvenirs. We then headed past the historic casitas near Centennial Park and the Italian Club. Next was the German influence food stop - Barrio Tacos. What? A taco restaurant? We had a full sized taco called "Das Taco". It is a combo of shredded chicken, chorizo sausage, fried onion crisps, a homemade cabbage/brussels sprout slaw with a delectable horseradish sauce. German influence all over this dish. This taste treat is only available on this tour. You can't order it off their menu. Plus, we had fresh corn chips and their terrific salsa. We finished our tour at Nicahabana Cigars for a cup of Café Con Leche in some of the most comfortable chairs in Tampa and a sweet treat from New York New York Pizza - fresh zeppoles with powdered sugar. All throughout the tour, we got snippets of the local history and local folklore. We laughed and took tons of photos. This was seriously one of the best food/history tours we have ever been on. Bring your walking shoes, stay hydrated and have a blast. There may be other tours in Ybor City but don't waste your time on those. Pick The Original Ybor City Food Tour. You won't be sorry!
