It is a non-traditional starting point into playing the piano where you start playing songs right away through pattern recognition and following along by watching and listening. Technique, like reading notes and perfecting rhythm, comes a little later. Building enjoyment and confidence in piano-playing comes first. Two years into lessons and getting my daughter to practice everyday (or almost everyday) still takes some external motivation from me, but for my 11 year old, there's no getting around that. I know there's no way she would've stuck it out this long had we started lessons the way I did when I was a kid, with scales, and memorizing notes. Amanda is a combination of demanding and understanding, and holds my daughter accountable for her own piano education (with me as "coach"). She makes corrections in a positive manner. My daughter loves that Amanda is smiley, has a good sense of humor and allows her to be herself.

The method gets students playing right away which not only gets them excited and interested, but builds their confidence and a love for playing. Having gone through the Suzuki method for violin with my oldest daughter I can tell you the difference is stark. While I love classical music, it just isn't as engaging for most children. Simply music teaches jaunty, fun little folk and blues pieces that the kids enjoy listening to and playing. The other difference is in the way Amanda teaches. She engaged with her students, even the little ones, in a way that makes them feel like equals. She impresses on them a sense of personal responsibility that gets them to take ownership of their musical journey. We could not be happier!
