I am a senior citizen that has always wanted to learn to play the piano. I have a near term goal to play some Xmas songs along with my grandkids so my lesson needs cannot follow the normal learning process. Cathy, listened to my story and my play and quickly tailored her lesson plan to get me the knowledge and skills I need to achieve my near term goal. My daughter has been taking lessons from Ms Lauren for around 2 years and we love her. She is very professional and has given great theory as well as practice lessons to my daughter. She is able to read new music sheets and play it confidently. I also like the recital that they do every year. You can see many students playing well that speaks for the school. However, one thing that I see lacking is communication to the parent regarding the progress of the student. But when I followed up, I was able to get the information that I needed. I have had a couple of ukulele teachers, but Mr. Yaxin really nailed what I have been looking for in a teacher. I learned so much in my time working with him. The school worked with me when my schedule changed so that I could keep attending classes. Really great group here. Our 7 year old has been taking lessons for a few months now, and I have to say, I love that she's not just playing 'with' the piano and that she's truly learning how to play. There's a lot of theory and practice that goes into a seemingly short lesson - which by the way, for a child her age, is the perfect amount of time, since they're only able to hyper focus for so long before they lose track. She practices a little at home, we aim for every day, but taking lessons has most definitely taken her curiosity about music and turned it into an interest and hobby. I'll recommend (and have to all my friends!) Willow Glen Music School to anyone, and I actually would have let her take lessons sooner had I known about the wonderful approach they to take with kids! read more

We love Willow Glen Music School. All for of my kids have had piano lessons there over the years. They ahave very dedicated and consistent teachers. I just wanted to give a quick shout out and let you know how great of a teacher Ms. Danielle is.  She is always prompt with following up with Lessonmate, and letting me know how my daughter is doing. Her school, last minute, decided to have a Talent Show.  Naturally, she wanted to be in it, citing many wild ideas including magic tricks, scooter jumps, and entire plays! :)  My son (honored as student of the month) said he was going to play "Moonlight Sonata", and of course, she then stated she wanted to play the piano as well.  However, she doesn't practice as much as he does, and was very sad and felt deficient with her options.  Not to mention, she doesn't have much time before auditions. I alerted Danielle of the situation and she was so great about it, teaching her how to introduce herself on stage, and lessons about how not everyone makes it into the talent show and that hard work is what counts.  She taught her (in one lesson) Ode to Joy.  She even wrote the notes down on her notebook since she didn't have a copy of it (she sent it on Lessonmate a few minutes after the lesson...). My son just started back up with piano lessons recently. I was more the proponent for it, since we were locked down, and I wanted him to have some activity to do. He wasn't thrilled about the idea, so we made a deal and agreed he would give it a month and if he hated it, he could quit. I shared my desires with the Manager/owner, and also, what my son likes, what kind of personality he would work best with, etc. Well, they came thru with a homerun. Ms. Karter is a fabulous teacher, keeps him engaged and really listened to what my son wanted to accomplish. We are way past one month and no signs of quitting. I can't recommend them enough!! You will get the most out of it, by communicating what you are looking for! read more

The teachers are good. But the make up class policy is not at all friendly. If the student has to miss a class, the latest policy means there will be work assigned or at the same time slot you can schedule a virtual class. If you are missing a class due to a schedule conflict, it is pretty obvious that virtual class is also difficult to attend. read more

My son take piano lessons from Miss Karter. Until he started with her, he consistently complained about going to lessons. Now, he can't wait! She not only keeps him on lesson, but allows him to try new songs he wants to learn. She makes it fun. In the words of my son....she's really cool and nice. We are very happy with Ms. Morgan at Willow Glen music school. My daughter takes piano lessons via zoom with her which is very convenient for our busy schedule. Ms. Morgan has a very sweet and bubbly personality and makes piano lessons fun and enjoyable. One example of that is she let my daughter collect all her stuffed animals to be an audience as she played one of her pieces. As a child I remember just going through the motions of piano lessons and not truly enjoying it. It is a joy to see my daughter look forward to her piano lessons each week. My child has been attending Willow Glen Music School for nearly a year, taking piano lessons. We are not a musical family at all, and so have been completely reliant on the teaching at the school. I've been blown away with the results. The combination of 1:1 teaching, a little homework, and progress being monitored and managed, has made it a great experience --- I've been genuinely shocked by the music that my child has been playing after such a relatively short period! Plus, my child has never complained, and its easy to tell when you see other kids head in to their classes that they are looking forward to it. What I like about the school is that it's in a proper setting -- not someone's living room; make up classes are easy to schedule; teacher are fantastic and it's 1:1; they schedule activities such as recitals. I was lucky enough to study with Jessica, the owner. I admire the way she runs the school and keeps things organized and up to speed. She was very flexible when it came to repertoire! She found suitable material for my level based on my interests. I'm a fan of the exercises she uses. I personally appreciate that while some may overlook the importance of music theory, she makes sure we use books that pace them in a way that they understand what they're reading, as opposed to picking it up as they go along. She challenges me but also creates and understanding and nurturing environment in her home. I also think it's awesome that even SHE continues to take lessons to keep improving, which inspires me and reminds me that learning is a constant journey. This music school is a great one. I used to be a pianist there and I could see all ages of people, coming in. They have very flexible makeup schedules that allow you to come in and makeup for your lessons. Specifically a teacher named Ms. Viri, has a good teaching approach by breaking down the song and developing it. I would bring in songs and she would help me learn them. This school is really great. The staff is kind and professional and keeps the piano class very entertaining for the kids. My daughter does the group piano class, and I think its actually very well suited for a 6 year old. I had previously done piano with one of my other children and it was a private class and it was less enjoyable than compared to the group piano classes offered at Willow Glen Music School. Every week we get a lesson emailed to the parents so you can practice with your kids, and they are very approachable if you are looking for feedback on how your child is progressing. The school is also located in downtown WG with plenty of restaurants around so you don't have to wait in the waiting area, but instead walk around and get a coffee or dinner. Both of my daughters went to WGMS for music lessons, one for piano and the other for guitar. They attended for 4 years and loved their time with their teachers. I am a person in her 60's who loves music and would love even more to learn to play my Spanish classical guitar; I learnt music theory as a child, but did so in Spanish, and now must translate my notes' names to English...not a huge problem, especially when you attend Willow Glen Music School. Recently signed my son up for the 4-6 year old group lessons. He really enjoyed it! Jessica has a got a great energy and knows how to make it fun for the little ones. I just want him to get his feet wet and see if he has an interest in playing music (starting with piano makes sense to us). With a music background and growing up in an Asian household, playing the piano was fundamental, but I definitely didn't want my son to feel pushed into, rather I want him to enjoy it from start to end. I think Jessica sets up a good environment that creates the fun and learning needed to start that love of music. We've taken our 10 year old daughter to Christopher for guitar lessons here for nearly a year now; and we couldn't be happier! He's the perfect type of teacher to help her learn and keep her interest going strong. My daughter (now 9) has been taking lessons with Ms. Viri for over a year and really enjoys it. She has taken both voice and piano lessons, and I'm impressed with how quickly she's making progress with just a little practice every day. She can be easily frustrated when learning something new, but Viri is consistently patient, encouraging, and gentle, and can always get her to keep moving forward when she feels challenged. She always looks forward to her lessons. She has also recently started the new group guitar lessons and is excited about that too. My 5 year old son has been taking group classes with Miss Cathy for the past year and loves it. He looks forward to it every week. A couple weeks ago he was ready to move up to private lessons. He was nervous as he was going to have to switch teachers due to our schedule. Well last week we had our first private lesson with Miss Jenny and he could not stop raving after class. I had quietly mentioned to Miss Jenny before the class that he was a Star Wars fan, and she blew him away by surprising him with Star Wars music. He came home able to play the first couple measures of the Star Sars theme song, and has asked me every day since when his next class is. I also am a student of the school. I got tired of sitting and waiting during my son's classes, so decided to learn guitar, because....why not? I've always wanted to learn an instrument but never had time before. I've now been taking guitar for several months, currently from Chris and absolutely love it. I will also say that it's been great having my kid watch me take a class, try to learn something, get frustrated, keep practicing, and finally get it. I think he appreciates seeing me go through the same process he himself experiences. And every time I get my guitar out to practice, he wants to practice his own music. Go figure! Our family are obviously huge fans of the school, and my 5 year old and I both highly recommend it. read more

Teacher Jessica, has been coming to our school to teach our students Early Music Awareness every other week for a couple of years now. The children respond well to her, learn and have fun in her class. Her friendliness and patience is evident even with our youngest of students. I love that our students are learning so much more than just singing, they learn about music theory with developmentally appropriate terms and activities that engage each student, music history with stories and books about composers and instruments, rhythm with hands on activities and songs and more!
