When it is God's will for a loved one to be with Him and leave this earthly world, you are never fully prepared, nor are you in the right frame of mind to deal with all the necessary arrangements to prepare for your loss. Who are we making these preparations for I often said to myself... I know my father's soul had left us a few days ago and was with God now, but in reality it is for us left on this earth; his family, friends and relatives who loved him, knew him and spent time with him because we are all grieving for him now and will miss him terribly despite his imperfections..he loved his family with all his heart & soul. It was my father's wish for his funeral to be held at Cumberland Chapels because this is where his fathers services were held when he passed so we honored his wish. My father was a smart man...He could not have chose a more caring, gracious, patient, professional and comforting funeral home. They did everything so we didn't have to. From helping us choose the Florist (Flower Fantasy directly across the street), to the cards, coffin, prayers, thank you cards, family photos and slideshow, etc. We had our own Priest attend for prayers, my father's favorite piano player, the music he loved (opera was always his favorite), and members of the Italian Society he belonged to; La Madonna Del Pozzo who presented a speech to honor him in song & prayer...Cumberland made it all happen and understood how much my father meant to us. From the moment we spoke to Louis Martino known to us as "Lou"; funeral director to arrange everything beginning with our meeting with him and all that followed the entire day - church and entombment, I cannot express how kind and patient Lou was with my sisters and I and all of our many requests. He made it possible to have this day exactly how my family wanted it. He never wavered anything we asked for. In fact he let my sisters & I see his body so that my sister could cut my father's hair before the wake. Lou gave her a scissors and comb. How many funeral homes would allow this?? Lou understood and is an amazing human being. Covid precautions were followed, but Lou was gracious with us. He was present the entire day until the final entombment. I could not have asked for a kinder man to handle this day..I am in awe of his patience. I understand why Lou's family has been in business for 100 years. With heartfelt thanks to Lou and his entire staff - we feel so blessed with the ease, kindness and care you have shown my father and entire family. read more

For what it is, it's probably one of the nicest funeral chapels I've been to. The outside is quite lovely and the inside is ultra clean, with more than enough seating, there's a nice little lounge-y area in the basement with some pretty yummy coffee and cookies, and the staff are nothing but accommodating and hospitable. I believe the place is owned by and specializes in Italian funerals, though the decor is mainly Asian, and I had gone for an Irish wake. The staff were all very friendly and the funeral director, or whomever was in charge of the funeral I had gone for, was very professional, caring, and knowledgeable... not to mention young (at least for that occupation, I'd imagine) and good looking, which is nice when you need a little distraction from the event at hand. The parking lot is lacking, but that's really my only neg. There is, however, plenty of parking just across the street, and they have police present in order to stop traffic and escort you across... which made me feel oddly celeb-ish. I would recommend this funeral chapel to anyone in need of their services. It's not far from the highway and is only a hop outside of the Chicago city limits. read more

Bob was very compassionate, honest, straightforward, and very on top of his game. He led a very dignified event all the way through the end of the graveside service. The bilingual (Spanish and English) pastor provided was very good. His words were kind, spiritual, and respectful. The couches and chairs are extremely comfortable, literally the most comfortable seating I have ever experienced. Elegant interior design. The location is gorgeous and beautifully designed with a skylight lobby that reminds you of heaven. Bluetooth speakers available Tv monitors in which you can plug in flash drive of picture files for a slideshow Big room seats 100 comfortably, but has standing room for much more. Smaller room seats 50, also with much standing room. Refreshments area downstairs can get crowded, but there was plenty of space. The only thing I'd maybe improve there is to just have each table clearly labeled. They labelled the sections which was great, but it seems like they should label the tables to avoid confusion. Some of our guests inadvertently sat in tables that were meant for others, and I felt a little guilty for inconveniencing the others who had to get a staff member who politely asked us to save some room for the other funeral parties. We just had my father's funeral services here and I can't find the right words to express our sincere gratitude to our funeral director Davis who made us feel like family and showed us the most heartfelt sympathy and compassion anyone can ask for in these so very difficult times. Everyone was so amazing and kind, from the 1st call I made all the way until our last conversation. When our daughter passed away 4 years ago, we were hit with the unknown process of finding a funeral home. Someone suggested we look at funeral homes that were family-owned. We'd been to this location before, as they handle a lot of Chicago city worker funerals. We were so welcomed by everyone we dealt with. They took care of everything, all the details, helping us through the rough process of burying our daughter. In fact, the gentleman who was handling everything was supposed to be off on the day of our wake, but he ended up coming in to make sure everything went smoothly. We knew it was going to be a big wake, and it was. Our line was about an hour-long wait, as hundreds of people came to pay their respects. We loved that all we had to do was drop off our photos and other mementos, and they put everything on display for us. This gave those waiting in line something to look at and talk about, and it was nice for us to not have to worry about putting it all together. They made sure everything was ready for the day of the funeral as well. It was a fairly long procession, but they took us on a less busy route, even with the police escort, which made it an easy trip for us. They truly went above and beyond for us and we're always grateful for the care and compassion they showed us. read more

Within a week, I had to say goodbye to two close friends made when I used to work at Wrigley Field. This funeral was a standing room only crowd, as we used to say, and they handled the overflow quite competently. I have to disagree with Candice, the interior decor is most certainly not any sort of real Asian, inside-and-out this is typical Chicago-Italian-American (yes, with Italian-American faux-Asian decorations). Clean and well kept, coffee surprisingly potable, those in charge of funeral procession traffic obviously experienced. This is a good location if you're expecting out-of-town mourners as it's close to the tollway and O'Hare. read more

Gemma Disclaimer: Not to jinx anyone, but I sincerely hope that this is the last review of this nature I do for a long time. This is the second wake/funeral I have attended at the Cumberland Chapels. And I will agree with my other Yelp friends who have offered their opinions. The Martino's and Lupo's really have a lovely chapel set up here, both in and out. The care and services provided are very well done. We arrived in the height of rush hour and one of Norridge's finest assisted with traffic control. I was amazed to find them there when we left. From a safety standpoint and a convenience standpoint, that was excellent. Though we were able to find a spot in the lot, we were crammed in like sheep later on. These chapels are well kept and very spacious; the decor is really quite lovely. They also have a really nice lighting system ... it seemed to help all those in the room. The personnel were very professional and this experience had a very friendly vibe to it. Less intense and more welcoming, I suppose. Though the family had arranged for a number of snacks, Cumberland kept the coffee fresh and also provided pastries from what I was told. Again, it is difficult to Yelp events of this nature, even when it seems to be a blessing. Fortunately, the Cumberland Chapels did their very best in making this experience as pleasant and professional as it could possibly be. read more

A nice building if I must say so. Very well kept, spacious and clean funeral home. They have a lounge area in the middle for people to gather outside of the actual room they'll be in. Limited parking at the chapel itself but there's lots of parking accross the street. They also have cops to escort you accross the street. No more book signing, they have a computerized system for you to check in. I guess it's easier for the family since thank you cards will be generated right away. I haven't been to many, and hope to keep it that way, but this funeral parlor was very accomodating. read more

The staff wasn't the warmest but aside from that it was a beautiful wake and funeral that I attended. We passed by the house behind the hurse and all of that, there was plenty of parking, and there's a Subway across the street in case you're hungry. Organizing final goodbyes are never easy for families that are saying their last goodbyes. Darren and Tony, made such a difficult time so much easier with the compassion and dignity. Our father passed from Covid, not only did they answer our questions, but helped us plan the most beautiful ceremony with respect and dignity. Darren and the staff will even pray with your family before they close the casket or open the casket. I have never met a place that has so much attention to detail to make the most beautiful service for the departed. When I was walking in, there was someone outside picking up the garbage around the building. When I got inside it was nice and bright. Very pleasent atmosphere. Everyone here was helpful, compassionate and warm. My father passed away in another state and they were very helpful in walking us through the process of having him flown back, as well as for his services. They continued their support after the funeral in reassuring us they'd wait for the life insurance company to pay them, and have not asked for a dime up front. As we were organizing the services, we were even counseled in ways that we could save money. This was a very difficult time for my family, and knowing how honest and competent they were was a great source of comfort. read more

I would like to extend my gratitude to this funeral home and an extra thank you to Steve for his services. My father had passed away suddenly and we decided to check out this location as an option. Steve accommodated us on such short notice with the utmost empathy and patience as it was myself and two sisters who were very particular on every detail. He assisted us with coordinating a Spanish priest in a church who didnt offer this service and even assisted with a Spanish speaking singer. On top of that they have a nice viewing room and clean facilities. Throughout the service he made himself available including assisting with the final viewing and assisting with allowing the final moments to the immediate family. I was there for my uncles wake last week. The staff is very rude. We were downstairs at 815 pm (wake ended at 9 pm) trying to enjoy refreshments and snacks because we were there all day. While we where eating the staff gave us dirty looks and rushed us saying they were closing soon and had a big security guard come and stand just watching us, eyeing us down as if we were keeping them there longer or were a burden when they were supposed to stay open for us until 9 pm. It was very rude of them to treat us this way when we were grieving. I do not recommend having a wake at this place. They are extremely unfriendly and unprofessional. read more

As a matter of fact, recently my wife and I both just finished make our final arrangements which included being buried at St. Adalbert Cemetery. He made all the necessary arrangements for my father to receive military honors (taps, flag folding) at the cemetery. The local police department does superb traffic control so it is easy to enter and leave the funeral home. It was such a saaaad time but this place made it soooo much easier. VERY nice, modern, and clean. Very friendly, efficient, and professional staff - especially Steve Kachniewicz who took us step by step to get through this difficult time. When death comes to your family it seems as though your "mind goes" and you need direction - Steve helped us with this. There is a large area downstairs for food and drink you can bring in when taking a break. We used the large magnetic display boards for our numerous pictures and used the large TV for our video of more pictures (with the use of our flash drive). This was "one stop shopping" Steve took care of EVERYTHING. read more

As stated by many, this is a beautiful facility. The downstairs has ample space for coffee, cookies,etc. for guests. Philip Kral was very helpful, professional and caring and suggested and took care of arrangements for a military burial which had not even occurred to me. When you are in shock and are trying to take care of so many details and honor your loved one with a nice ceremony that you have to create in 2-3 days and have company coming, etc., this gave me reassurance that it would be a nice service. At our meeting we brought several recent pictures of my father to give an accurate portrayal. The ONLY but very IMPORTANT issue I had is whoever did the makeup and styling obviously didn't see or pay attention to the pictures. We had stated he didn't wear his hair with a part but combed straight back, yet there was a part. He had a somewhat bushy mustache, it was trimmed to almost nothing. He didn't look like himself at all and I know that is common due to makeup but come on with pictures to go by, the hair and mustache couldn't be replicated?? To me that is one of the most important things for a funeral service. I think the cosmetologist needs to seriously pay more attention to pictures. read more
