It was established as a Polish cemetery in 1872. There are multiple former congressmen buried here, including Dan Rostenkowski, whose fall from grace was legendary in this area. Also found here in Section Two of the cemetery (in the east section, to the south of the entrance) is the tomb of George Halas, the founder of the Chicago Bears. I'm not from Chicago and not a football fan, least of all a Bears fan, but I found it interesting for the very large impact he had in the Chicago region. One thing I found really interesting at St. Adalbert is the number of really well-kept mausoleums. There were dozens that were built in the early 20th century that had windows that were recently cleaned, and you could see the art glass in the back wall of the structure clearly through the door. It was really interesting to see these ones that seem so carefully maintained after all these years.

When we got to the cemetary it was extremely huge . The sections make no sense we drove around the cemetery for over 3 hours we even went to the office and they gave us a map of the cemetery and even marked on the map where it was. We finally found the section 40 but nothing is marked indicating what area in section 40 the grave is just a bunch of plots. The plots were not taken care of the headstones were sunken in and nothing saying what number grave he is buried at or what is location 76 grave 3 just a bunch of head stones. The bathrooms in the office the sinks did not work, hardly no toilet paper really disgusting. I'm calling them to complain. Really sad the place is not being taken care of

After witnessing an absolutely horrible funeral home before this, we found Colonial Wojciechowski. Their friendly demeanor and compassion were the first things we noticed. The space is beautiful, a lot lighter and open than most Chicago funeral homes. The dining area is modern and beautiful. The staff on the day of our visitation were incredibly helpful including helping with all the food prep in the dining area. All our guests said how welcoming the staff was when they entered as well. Al also helped us separating ashes for us and family after the service. Thank you so much for all you did for our family.

Let me preface this with the fact that my Great Uncle had made pre-arrangements with another funeral home... which closed a few years back (he was 94 at the time and living in a nursing home). As his Power of Attorney, I was put in the position to have to redo everything. Colonial was fantastic with helping me through all of the details. They were able to review what the previous funeral home had arranged and were able to match everything working within the costs that were preset. When I left after that initial meeting, I felt that everything was in good hands. Fast forward, a few years later when I received the call that my Great Uncle had passed, Colonial really stepped up. Al and his staff are extremely professional and I can't thank them enough for all they did.
