The state insists that you take it to an approved repair shop and have it pass brake and lights , etc. They told me it would be $350. My windshield needed repair and they failed my car because of it. (FYI, that could have informed immediately it couldn't pass unless the windshield was replaced) After returning to pick up my car. And getting the failed paperwork . They said that they could have my windshield repaired so it would pass. ( They charged me $400 plus tax) I made the appointment to have them fix the windshield. Again I brought my car in and waited. Once the windshield repair guy arrived he immediately declined to fix my windshield because it was too complicated. They then told me they would find another windshield repairman to my car. I waited two days no call. I then went to pacific in Arcata. Had my windshield repaired. Returned to Johnson's and they said it would be another $400. Because they would have to recheck everything. Of course I wasn't going to pay them another $400. I drove a block to Broadway and stopped at Broadway Automotive. They would only charge $250. I just believe in good customer service. I would never suggest anyone ever going to Johnson's auto for anything.

We pulled over and called our RV insurance, but while waiting for a callback, I started calling around town to see if anyone could help us sooner. It was already 3pm, and unfortunately every place I called told me to come back the next morning. Since we were just traveling through in our camper van, waiting wasn't really an option. We just wanted to safely continue on to our campsite. When I called Old Town Auto Service, they didn't hesitate at all, just told us to stop by and they'd take a look right away. We drove over, and they got our Promaster Solis Pocket up on the lift immediately! They quickly found the issue: a small rock had gotten wedged between the rotor and the heat shield. Simple fix, but a huge relief. We were in and out with the problem completely resolved before our RV insurance even called back to say they were still trying to find a technician for us. 5 stars all the way! The staff was friendly, the shop was clean, and they treated us with respect, even for such a small issue. It's a big deal to find a place willing to work on our van without hesitation. If you need anything in Eureka, I highly recommend.

Unfortunately, we will no longer be using their services due to recently taking our car in not once, but twice for the same issue. Almost $900 later, the issue still remains which means we essentially threw our money down the drain. Literally the problem recurred the next day and is still happening. I've never had an issue before where a mechanic supposedly fixes a problem....yet the problem remains. Maybe I have been lucky? Anyway, we will be using a new mechanic from now on. Too bad! An offer of at least a partial refund would have been nice. All we got was an apology; which doesn't go too far these days. Oh well.

This new construction building is large, brightly lit and the isles are very wide making it easy to move through the store even when busy. On my most recent visit I was swapping out a dead battery that I priced at their competition. I acquired a comparable battery with them and it was almost $30 less than their competitor. All the staff and managers I've dealt with on my couple of visits have all been professional and helpful. The shift manager on my battery trip actually helped me diagnose the problem by my symptoms description to him, and his knowledge base - I was able to not only save money by his advice and not buying unnecessary parts. Which he could have sold me if he had wanted to. I appreciate the honesty and professionalism he extended me. A national chain auto parts store that has brought a competitive edge to the local market here.
