They put care into their displays and what figurines or other trinkets are placed with which books. Their prices aren't as cheap as books when you thrift, but the effort that goes into curating and organizing a collection this big - almost makes it worth the retail prices on some of these books. I also noticed they had some Disney tsum tsum? Figurines that must be slight after and collectible because the retail was 5.95 and the written price for the store was $10.

They have every kind of romance (my preferred genre) you can think of, including some hard to find books. The aesthetic is SO COOL. They have very reasonably priced Blind Date with a Book selection and the cute merch inside is some of the best I've seen. I was looking for a specific book series that they didn't have but they had no problem looking it up for me and seeing if it was available. Staff was friendly and helpful. I can't wait to go back and bring a friend of mine who is dying to make it here as well. I had just missed an author signing so plan to throw them a follow to see who goes to visit their store!

I've been coming to Maya Books and Music for years and always find something good when I stop in…read more The store is clean, orderly, and the book sections are clearly displayed; however, it doesn't hurt to ask for help from the owner, she knows where everything is. On my most previous visit I was looking specifically for piano sheet music, and the owner informed me they were upstairs in a basket under the W-X & Y-Z section of Rock CD's, and sure enough, they were exactly where she said they were. Luckily for me I found two books in great condition - Bach Short Preludes and Fugues for the Piano for $3.95 and Bella Bartok Mikrokosmos Piano Solo Vol III for $3.50, great deal! There is also a variety of other instrument sheet music for clarinet, trumpet, guitar, mandolin, and more in this section. They have a great variety of used music CD's and Vinyl's upstairs for sale at a reasonable price. I've purchased CD's from here for $4 and less, but some could be higher if they are rare or brand new in the cellophane wrap. I haven't purchased any Vinyl's but they do have a decent selection. There are also a variety of posters and old collectable magazines here for sale, which is cool. I actually have some of the Guitar Magazine ones they are selling for $25 and more. The owner informed me that she acquired a much larger store in another state and will have a lot more books and other items coming after the New Year, so be sure to stop in and see what they have to offer. Something to note is the owner is not flexible with pricing so I don't recommend trying to get a better price by buying multiple items and talking her down, it just wont work. Another thing is there is really nowhere to sit down to read for a few minutes to see if you want to buy a book your interested in, even if you try, you quickly become crowded in by other shoppers trying to get around you. All-in-all, Maya Books and Music provide a fun shopping experience if you're a book lover and just happen to be in Downtown Sanford Shopping. I highly recommend stopping in to check them out.

I have found some wonderful books here and if you go upstairs you'll find all sorts of records. To me the books are well priced, and the owner is always so so welcoming! Before writing my review I did read some other reviews about people trying to ask for price matching, which honestly I find weird to do with a small book shop (do it to the corporate businesses, not the small shops - but that's just my opinion). I also don't think the owner does price matching or accept any haggling as I did overhear her telling a couple she did not. Anyways a great book shop to visit and if you love to support local shops, this is one to visit and support!

A very large selection of bibles and also a very large selection of Christian adult books and children books! Love, love, love! When you walk into the main entrance make a right and just next to the Cafe is this amazing book store! I can spend hours in one, especially when there's the presence of love there! This is my new go to spot when in search of devotionals. I love atmosphere, the people who helped me with my purchase and the easy accessibility of coffee. I didn't get a chance to partake in the coffee, but next time, I will stop by for a treat! By the way, this is currently, the ONLY Christian bookstore in this county! Stop by, grab a coffee and read a book. Also, they offer great purchases if you're on a budget!

I am always down to find a new location to satiate my book habit. I popped in to this little shop…read morebecause I was curious. There was some good, some bad, some - maybe you just need to stop in yourself and see. I'm also one to support small local businesses, so I want to take this shop for what it is and give it a chance! First, there is clearly no A/C in this shop - I came in around 11am on a weekday and it was SWELTERING hot inside. So keep that in mind... definitely maybe visit earlier in the day or later (at least during the summer). They had mainly African American literature and children books. They had a pretty wide selection of both considering how small the shop was! I didn't look through everything, but I also saw a good selection of best-sellers. The books didn't seem that discounted, they were mainly new. I did notice that there were some used books as well. The shop owner seemed nice and was reading behind the counter while I perused. All in all, it seemed like an okay shop - if you're looking for African American authors, I'd most certainly check out this shop because they had a wide selection.

Wanted to buy a Bible and a…read moreRosary today and sell a KJV Bible, well preserved for just $10 instead of just throwing it in the trash as it was my car's previous owner. I go inside and ask first if they buy used Bibles and they say no (later in the back I see they have a full wall with "used books and Bibles for sale; maybe they only sell the ones they get for free? Interesting). Fine. I then ask, if they sell Catholic Bibles, I was looking for RSV-2CE, the owner/manager looks at me like I asked for something crazy, and the other employee then intervened and brings me over to the Catholic section. The Catholic section is, I kid you not, max one foot of width, in a little corner. Alright, I'm just looking through what they have nothing that fit what I was looking for. They had a RSV-2CE by Ignatius which not many know but it has heavy commentary and explanation, so not what I was looking for, a simple RSV-2CE. I then give up on the Bible, I was looking around and I found a good Crucifix for my wall at home. Grab it, but didn't find any Rosary. I keep walking around and I see a JEWISH section at least twice bigger than the Catholic section. First of all, why is there a Jewish section in a CHRISTIAN store? Where's the Islam section? The Hindu section? Second, why is it bigger than the Catholic one? We represent half of the Christians worldwide. At this point I'm like where the hell am I? Let me just buy this Crucifix and leave. I go towards the checkout, and I see an Israeli flag!! What is that doing in a Christian store in America!!?? That was it, I just went back, put the Crucifix back, and just left. Definitely will not come back, and I urge the store owners to really think about my review. God bless.

It's funny because I own quite a few that I found in the store and they have the one or two I would be missing from the collection. If I was still collecting, I would absolutely be back to buy comics from this store. It is very clean, organized, and the staff are friendly and helpful. If you are in the area and are in the market for buying and selling comics, I recommend you stop in and check them out.
