I needed to get some foreign currency for an upcoming trip, for use where credit cards aren't always accepted. Currency Exchange International, or CXI, claims to have very competitive rates, and this one is conveniently located in a kiosk at Dadeland Mall. I needed to exchange a few hundred $$ and I wasn't sure if I'd need to call ahead or use their website to order, but they had the currency and amount I needed, no problem. They charged a $5.00 exchange fee, and a "currency price protection" fee of $5.95 which will supposedly give me a more attractive rate with no additional fees if I need to return here and exchange any unused foreign currency back to USD following my trip. I appreciate having found CXI, because some banks don't deal in certain foreign currencies, or are limited as to how much they can convert, and their exchange rates are sometimes very poor. Those limitations don't seem to be an issue for Currency Exchange International. Also, as most anyone who's traveled abroad can attest, the foreign currency exchanges located in touristy places like airports and train stations often have really horrible exchange rates, or charge excessive fees. Better to come here to CXI ahead of time. read more

I'll keep this short & sweet. The kiosk is small & in the middle of the Dadeland mall between stores. It's where the stairs & ramp go downwards after the Macy's. Only one person runs it & a line can form so be patient. Might want to call before you go in case they run out of the particular currency you're trying to get. Exchange rate wise, I found them fair & much better than the airport options. The gentlemen who helped me was friendly & even apologized for the wait. The rates this company provides is the best I've ever received. I suggest purchase the rate protection as well so you get equivalent of what your money is worth to exchange it. Their hours and location are convenient and the employees go over everything with you to make sure you understand and answer any and all questions you have. I find their rates were much better than banks. You can also order your cash amount ahead of time if need be. It just makes the process hassle free. read more

I recently exchanged some USD for EUR at their Dadeland Location, all was great, even sold back some left over EUR to USD at A LOT better rate than at Madrid Airport. I would have given them 5 Stars EXCEPT, on their online order page I requested bills in small denominations (It was only EUR500). When I got there they had 5 EUR100 billsfor me. When I told him I requested smaller denominations, he said fine and LUCKILY he had smaller bills. When I told him about me requestion, he said that sometimes that request doen't show up on their order. I am sorry to say that I visited the kiosk today and found the rudest person working it. He was making me feel as if he was doing me a big favor. Argued about what I had said versus what he understood. What is wrong with customer service? Was he not trained for that? I placed my order, they didn't hace the currency I need for the countries I will be visiting. They should be calling me back in a few days. Put in a request online to order euros. Website said I'd receive a call in 24 hours. I never did 3 days later. I called and the only reason why I'm giving 2 stars is because of the lady over the phone. She was very nice but NOT at the dadeland but she tried to get me in contact with them several times. No one answered. She also took my number down and said she'd try to get it to the kiosk. I am not near dadeland so making the trip, in the event they don't have euros isn't worth it. Not too impressed. When I arrived the gentleman was sitting in the kiosk (he was the only one there), and he told me he was at lunch. He said to come back in 45 minutes. This kiosk business is located at Dadeland Mall between Macy's and JC Penny's. When we got there, it was closed with one of those will be back in 30 minutes signs. In 30 minutes the lone female employee returned. She was nice and very helpful. This is the first time I've used a currency exchange, and she answered all my questions I had for getting my daughter some British pounds for her upcoming study abroad program in London. The best part of this currency exchange is that the exchange fee was only $3.00 for a transaction of $200 or less, compared to $8.95 at Miami Int'l Airport. Also, if you return with any unused foreign paper currency just show your receipt and there's no transaction fee. Except for the 30 minute wait, I had a pleasant experience here. read more
