Despite taking care of my teeth in adulthood, I have had many issues. maybe because I grew up in the UK in an area without access to fluoridated water. She had terrible interaction skills with my 4 year old who is new to a dental office (2nd/3rd time). My child had a cavity identified during the initial visit that needed to be addressed. We came back over for the follow up where initially with the [perfectly lovely and child-centered] hygienist, we were told that my child could sit on my lap to make the experience more comfortable for her. The dentist proceeded to come in, and told us it wasn't going to work like that and that she would have to sit on her own to get the procedure done. I don't know if anyone else has ever dealt with 4 year olds, but when one set of expectations is set and then pulled off the table, it typically doesn't go well. As I was comforting her, I can hear Dr. Himelhoch in the background tell my child "Well, you don't really have an option" AS MY CHILD IS CRYING. Then, she proceeded to ask if I needed assistance in restraining my child to get her in the seat. Finally, when my child is inconsolable, she suggested getting the infant lap seat. If that was an option, why wasn't that the initial suggestion instead of waiting for the inconsolable child to get to that level. When I finally told them I did not want to go forward to it today as it was out of control at that point, she then proceeded to address my child with a "I'm very disappointed in you for making this so difficult for you mom." WHAT?!?

There have been at least two incidents where I called in while the office was closed for vacation, and she called back personally and met me in her office outside of work hours. For us, we were looking for someone with the education and experience that she has for our kid's braces. I had told her when I called that this was ridiculous and that I would be going somewhere else. My sister had to change the insurance on file when the receptionist looked at her and said "should I do this for your sister too or is she actually going somewhere else or was it a heat of the moment", no it was not the "heat of the moment", I have been going there for 7 years and have never missed an appointment and they want to disregard my time. I live 45 mins away had I driven to the dentist it would have been a waste of time they did not even care to let me know they gave up the appointment. I will be going to Franklin Dental who did a MUCH better job fitting me into their schedule.

This review is for their bill and insurance department, who can do a better job in educating and helping the patients. Before we came in, we called the office to ask if they accept our insurance. We were told the office did accept our insurance. But they never told me that it is out of network charge. We took the x ray and the doctor took a look at my kid's teeth for 2 minutes. We also had regular check ups one month later. Two months later, we received a bill for 243 dollars. 135 dollars for the emergency visit and 108 dollars for preventative checkup. We have to pay the full amount. The bill department clerk is not being helpful or friendly. We will switch back to our previous dentist, whose charge is more transparent and who is helpful when having issues with the insurance . We will not come in again.

I chose to bring my daughter to this practice on the recommendation of our Orthodontist for a…read moresurgical procedure as part of the work with her braces. Her recovery has been good, with no complications to speak of (only two weeks in at time of writing this). So the services provided by Dr. Wardius appear to have met expectations. Unfortunately, the office experience left something to be desired. While a comfortable and soothing ambiance make for nice experience, day of, I was disappointed with poor communication with the office staff around the costs involved. After completing our consult visit and scheduling the surgery I asked for a cost estimate and was presented with expected costs, based on expected insurance coverages. Two weeks later these were updated based on an uncovered service performed at the consult (a CT scan), and I was provided what I understood to be final numbers (assuming that nothing would change during the procedure that would require additional services or coverage-wise from insurance). On the day of the procedure, everything proceeds as expected. No additional services needed or performed and payment requested matches the estimate I had been provided. Two weeks later I am now being charged for a service (the CT scan) that was supposed to have already been accounted for, as I was told that it had been, two weeks prior to the procedure. But they are telling me that I mis-read the email when they said "The balance was added to the patient account." If so, that estimate should reflect that amount. When a customer is quoted a price for promised services to be rendered, and those exact services are what is completed, then that price shouldn't change after the fact. Trying to discuss this with the office manager was the final straw as she was more interested in expediting the call, crossing it off her to-do list and getting off the phone than to honestly hear the concern and frustration that a client had with their experience. This "problem customer" as I am sure to be referenced as behind their closed doors, could have been a learning experience for the team so that they could better understand how to service their customer's needs. Instead it was so much more transactional and disappointing. I will be sure to pass this experience back to the original referring office and to find another practice for my son when he is due up in the coming years.
