Dude with one arm was trying to tell me they never play speakerslower than 200Hz. I asked him how high of frequencies the subwoofer play and he said 100Hz. So I asked him, "so you're not hearing anything between 100-200Hz?" He said, no you're not missing anything, your main speakers play it. After he already told me he limits all his main speakers to 200-250Hz. I told him my speakers were rated for as low as 60Hz. He said "no they don't advertise that on the box." Yes my focals tell me that they are rated down to 60Hz and my rear focals go down to 50Hz. He said "oh those must be really bad speakers." Wait, so because my speakers can handle lower bass, they're really bad and cheap? Then I was like "hold on" and then he started just yapping and running around the whole store trying to show me random things on boxed like RMS and wattage power handling that had nothing to do with what I was talking about. I asked him "hey can I please say something?" And he just kept talking and talking and talking and said "if you want I can show you my car." I don't know why I need to go out to his car when I'm just trying to figure out how you're going to hear frequencies in between 100 and 200 if the highest your subwoofer goes is 100 and the lowest your main speakers go is 200. So after he finally calm down, I asked again, so you're not hearing anything from 100 to 200? He FINALLY said "that's correct." So all that yapping and gaslighting was all for nothing? I told him thanks for finally answering the question but also told him that that was ridiculous that he was just running around the store like that when I'm just standing there waiting to speak for 10 minutes. These people have no understanding of Car audio. He just kept telling me how he has been doing this all his life. Way too arrogant. read more

Overall I am satisfied with the product, Jeremy is a little full, of himself, if he would listen rather that speak, he would probably get a more satisfied customer. He was more interested in telling us what we did wrong and that we were not paying attention. All over speaker hook up. Darrel reached over and in less time than Jeremy spent talking Darrel had the harness fixed. I will definitely use them again, but would probably ask to see Darrel rather than Jeremy. They gave me an appointment to install my car antenna and I was early. They took care of me right away. The installation went quite fast. They are freindly and helpful there. Also I Was expecting to pay around $200.00 but they charged me a fraction of that. I listened to them helping another customer while waiting and I was impressed to hear the salesman recommend a cheaper system that would be better for the customer. I have been dealt with many sales persons over the years, but this was just poor workmanship. I have a '99 TL Acura with a stock Bose sound system including a stock sub. I went in there to get myself a new deck since my old one was having problems. I made it quite clear I had a sub in the back, and he the gentleman said it would be no problem. After leaving and coming back, he showed me the car and let me leave. On my way home with a friend we noticed the sub wasn't working at all. We assumed we just needed to mess with the sound system, but that wasn't the case at all. It turned out while working on it there was a loose wire, and he had no way of hooking it up, so he just let me and my friend leave knowing the sub wasn't working. When we got back he admitted it wasn't working and said he would be willing to rip my car apart again to see if he could "maybe" get it to work. He acted like I was some kind of annoyance to him even though he was the one causing the problem. Turns out, there was no way for him to fix it, and after two hours I showed up and he explained that they were "sorry," but there was no way to hook it up. He told me they would be willing to give me a small discount on a new amp if I wanted on, but I would still have to pay for the wiring and labor. Honestly, I will likely never go back there, and the only reason I am giving them two stars instead of one is because the deck I got was actually decently priced. read more

I hate to give a two star review, but it is well deserved in this scenario. I have a 2014 Subaru BRZ (stock head unit). Was referred to Custom Audio by a friend as the best place in town to go to for car audio. I had them install a JBL 10" sub and amp, bass knob, high-low pass converter, backup camera, and four strips of LED's for interior lighting (plus a button to turn them on and off). First off, I didn't get a call when the install was finished. When I called (five hours in) they said it had already been finished for a while. When I got the car back the sound was terrible. The subwoofer was reproducing completely distorted bass, and when you paused a song the bass would continue to play for around 5-10 seconds. I also noticed that one of the strips of lighting wasn't secured like the other three strips. Plus the button to turn the LED's on and off wasn't installed. I asked them to retune the system because of the huge distorted bass sounds as well as install the button for the LED's. A few days later I have the car back in the shop. About an hour and a half in, I get a call saying that the bass knob I have is the problem with the distortion as the knob I have doesn't turn the volume level of the bass up and down, but rather just changes the frequency. They say I can buy and have them install their own bass bass knob and that will fix the problem. I agree (pay an additional $80) and they say to come pick it up in about an hour. I pick up the car (the car is backed into a parking spot up front) and the one LED strip is fixed and secured, the button to turn the LED's on and off is installed and looks great, but the bass is turned up so high that if I put the bass knob past halfway it would've blown the sub at 50% volume. Plus the sub wouldn't hit all of the notes in a song. It would hit certain frequencies incredibly loud and then other frequencies the sub wouldn't hit at all. I just said whatever, paid for the install, and left the shop (I didn't have to reverse to leave the shop). About 20 minutes later I go to put my car in reverse and the backup camera screen doesn't pop up. Somehow during their retuning and other things they were doing they managed to disconnect the backup camera that they had installed previously. I go back for a third time to tell them this, and they say they'll fix it. I also mention the bass only hitting certain frequencies, and they say they'll look at that for a third time. I come back after a few hours and the backup camera is now working again. The bass however is nonexistent. They turned it down so far that there just wasn't any bass. The employee I had been working with said that either the head unit I have (the stock '14 Subaru BRZ head unit) cannot interpret some of the bass frequencies and therefore can't send certain signals to the sub, or that I need a universal converter instead of a high to low pass converter. Long story short, I either have to purchase a universal converter (at least a $100 install) or get a new head unit that will interpret all frequencies/signals (at least a $300 install). I've already spent near $400 in installation fees, so I just leave and leave it at that. Two weeks later I go into Brad's CarTunes and tell them this whole story, and they say they'll take a look at the car for $40 (the shop minimum). 30 minutes later I get the car back and the bass sounds amazing. I don't know why I had a bad experience with Custom Audio (I looked at all the 5 star reviews Custom Audio had before choosing where to have my equipment installed). The people at Custom are very nice and knowledgeable people, but I can't give anything more than a 2 star review as they didn't give me what I payed for. Brad's fixed it in under 30 minutes, while Custom took a combined 12 hours to try and figure out what was wrong with the bass and couldn't figure it out. read more

I made the mistake of asking them to mount two off-road lights on my Jeep the day before I left on a trip. They did not stand by their work and took complete advantage of my leaving town. The "technician" ignored what I agreed to. He said he was going to mount the lights to my metal bumper, but instead took the two metal KC Daylighters I brought in, attached them to two flimsy strips of metal, cut hideous holes in my grill and then attached them to only the plastic part of my grill. Now, KC lights are heavy and even if he hadn't attached the homemade "bracket" to plastic, it wouldn't hold anything still if you farted in its general direction. The lights flopped so much driving down the road that it looked like a strobe light show. I picked the Jeep up at closing on a Saturday evening and tried them out on the way home. They were completely unusable. The store was closed the next day, Sunday, and I had to leave at 0600 that morning for a three month trip. I called them multiple times on Monday and demanded to speak to a manager multiple times but every time the same "technician" kept giving me the run around. At one point he pretended to be the manager (his voice was pretty recognizable) and promised that when I returned from the trip, he would "make it all right" and made a note on his calendar (whatever that meant). I drove my entire trip with cable ties holding the lights in place and didn't modify anything specifically so when I got back they wouldn't have an excuse not to fix it. When I did get back, the first thing I did was drive down there and show them my receipt and what I had written down that the guy promised me. They said it had been too long to do anything to "make it right" and that the warranty had expired as well, but even so nothing looked "broken" to them (apparently not working at all is "functioning as intended" to these guys). Not only were they incompetent, but they wouldn't even pretend to stand by their work. I had off-handedly mentioned installing a CB while I was there and the guy tried to sell me on this insane plan to drill holes in my roof and do a bunch of unnecessary stuff to the front windshield as if he'd never installed one before. I declined and asked him to do just the lights...but that sort of cluelessness did put up some red flags. If only I'd listened to my innner incompetence alert. There are a lot of other options for this kind of work in town, I would avoid these guys at all costs. read more
