There was mostly good, but there are some areas to improve. I'm not an idiot when it come to sound systems in vehicle, that said, I haven't been concerned with it since my youth. This team treated me professionally the day I setup the work, and the next day at the install. So let's talk about it. THE GOOD 1) I went in knowing what I was comfortable spending. Stayed in budget 2) Worked with me to find the right solution. 3) Seemed knowledgeable when explaining concepts I didn't fully understand. 4) Had vehicle mostly ready to turn back over on time. THE BAD 1) There was a mix up, and part of the install had to change. Cost $$$ 2) The car we had the install done on has an electric antenna that was controlled by the old head. Antenna no longer raises, and they didn't rewire to the fuse box to maintain functionality. So FM signals are poor at best. Couldn't even auto find one of my favorite local stations, 98 Rock 3) The microphone install into the instrument cluster was sloppy at best. They tried Gorilla tape after I pointed it out, it didn't adhere. I will be using some epoxy to set it in place permanently. They did offer to work on the antenna at a later date, but they already knew the car was never coming back to Charleston. I had to take it to my daughter in North Carolina going to college. read more

I am seriously disgusted how no one at Custom Car Stereo has taken any responsibility for their actions and failure to help me as a customer. I have been back to Custom Car Stereo 5 Times to fix my Issues, it is a SCAM, they make your purchase products to fix the mistakes they made. I had a $4,000 System turn into $5,400 and Two Weeks of my life going back in hopes this would be fixed, This place should be SHUT DOWN, they are not Focused on the Customer Experience, all they care about is making the SALE, letting Inventory Manager sell systems that he wants, not what the customer wants. If Brian listened to ME the customer the FIRST TIME, and if the OWNER would have actually get involved. This ENTIRE NIGHTMARE COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED. The Owner only spoke with me ONE TIME, and refuses to speak with me, and has a 28 year old Service Manager deal with HUGE Issues like mine. I had to call the Police on them for refusing to give me my Van the first time, then the last time they would not give me my Van (had a car parked in front of it), unless I signed a piece of paper stating I was happy, which I refused to sign, they again blocked my car after the Fourth Time and another $1,400 they had me keep buying to fix the mistakes the made. They seriously are running a Scam, with Clueless Employees, and and Absentee Owner. They have ZERO EMPATHY for what they put people through, and that includes not even apologizing for a 76 year old woman falling out of the RV due to the fact they did not SCREW IN THE GRAB BAR! I have Videos, Photos, Recordings, All Proof of everything I have gone through, and no other person should have to go through the Stress they put me through. I expect Reimbursement. So now I have a Car Audio System that Costs $5,400 that I cannot play when parked because of the Speakers Making the Electrical Zapping Sounds, and Smells of Smoke, AND the Front Cab System, is just AWFUL, If a Woman is Singing like Adele, Rihanna, Alicia Keys, Whitney Houston, it is literally feels like getting an Ice Pic in my EAR from the HIGH PITCH, the only way to listen to them is on LOW Volume and LOW FLAT Equalizer, that drowns their Beautiful Voice out. The system I have sounds like an $800 Defective System, let alone $5,400 System! Again, Brian the Inventory Manager sold me a System he likes, not one that I WANTED. The speakers he sold me are for more Guitar and Acoustics, and that is what is playing in the DEMO ROOM. Brian should be OUT OF A JOB, Tyler needs a BETTER Manager and the Owner Needs to MAN UP and take care of Customer Issues! About a week after getting my car back from the body shop after minor front end damage, the dash cam stopped working. Until then, my cam had been running perfectly for nearly 3 years. I called Custom Car and set an appointment for today for them to look at it since they originally installed it. They said the body shop pulled a ground wire which caused another to blow so they are having to replace both wires (it might have been the other way around, electrical stuff isn't my thing). The manager was going to charge me the full 2.5 hours of labor for it, but AJ convinced him not to and only charge 1 hour since it wasn't my fault. But yeah. If you ever need any dash cam, sound system, backup cam, security systems, bass, etc installed, go see AJ at Custom Car Stereo in West Ashley. I brought in a high end Pioneer Head unit, rear camera, Sirius XM receiver, harness and tools, all new, in the box, unopened, for install into a Toyota Prius, with a JBL Sound System. They told me to buy from them, or they would charge me an extra $25 an hour. No problem, Ill pay the extra, thinking it would be maybe a hundred more. They could not get the JBLs to work, Could not even get the Car Play to work. They threw in some crappy 3 way door speakers for sound. Took 5 days, and cost me over $1400. Still does not work. Would not make it right, blaming the owner, saying they would lose their jobs, and they had kids at home, and couldn't afford to lose their jobs. They ripped me off. A job that should be $500 at most cost almost triple, and still doesn't work. There was a question whether they also crashed my front bumper, which they denied by showing me some bay video. I had bought the car earlier in the week, and would have noticed it caved in. They denied all. They charged me over $600 for parts and labor being steering wheel controls, amp turn on, and video lockout pass. I never saw any parts, and they said the parts were built in. Virtual parts. Phantom parts. This place ripped me off big time. Should be sued, or burned down. Do not go here unless you're prepared to be cheated, lied to, and stolen from. Contact me if you want more horrifying details of the transaction, which cost me $1400+, 5 days time, a damaged car, and still doesn't work. Worst auto transaction I've ever seen, or heard of. Your expectations will be exceeded. If you want to know who the best is, this is it. The team at CCS pulled off what I can only describe as impossible. I purchased a 2017 Yamaha 242 LTD S a couple weeks ago and needed to have tower speakers and a 10" sub installed. The boat dealer built in the installed price into the contract so I had already "pre-paid" for this install. I was originally sent to Dealer Electronic Services (DES) but was really disappointed in their customer service. I was told that they didn't have time, that they could get to it the following week (mind you after being told they were ready), and that they had received no direction from the boat dealer. All of this was unacceptable, but I told them ok. Thursday of that week (two days later), I receive a call from DES that I needed to pick my boat up because they were leaving early both Thurs and Fri. Interesting since they HAD WORK TO DO. Nevertheless, I informed my boat dealer and they were just as upset. My dealer picked up the boat and took it to CCS (on Friday). I met with Nick Friday afternoon and walked around the boat and showed him where I'd like everything to go. He wasn't optimistic that they would be done with the whole project, but guaranteed that I would have my boat back Saturday so I could hit the water. I get a call Saturday afternoon with fantastic news - the install went so well that they would be finished by 16:00 that day. WHAT?! ONE DAY NOTICE and they complete the whole job?! How is this possible...? Well, I get down there to pick it up and it blew my mind how good everything looked and sounded. They paid attention to every slight detail. The locations turned out perfect and their cable management was excellent. They performed a demo for me and made sure everything was just as clean as when it arrived. I was also pleasantly surprised that they only charged about 60% of what the dealer expected, so I'm receiving a nice little refund as well. Now that this phase of the audio upgrade is complete and the impossible was pulled off, my boat dealer has severed ties to DES and will be sending their work to CCS from now on. Very good call - spending $68k on a boat with a few grand in audio to be treated like a 2nd class citizen will quickly run patience thin. CCS is now doing the tint job for the boat and I'm excited to have that project completed. I'll update after it's complete. Extra compliments to Nick - He has treated this project and me as a priority 1 issue and resolved it to the best of anyone's ability. I'm thoroughly impressed and will only consider recommending my friends, family, and colleagues to see him at CCS. read more

After years of using aux cables (that constantly frayed) to play music in my car, I decided it was time for an upgrade. Yelp took me to Custom Care Audio which I've driven by a hundred times. I went in having done no prior research (totally unlike me and I don't recommend it), but Dustin listened to what I wanted and delivered it and then some. While I originally figured I would get a cheaper way to achieve what I wanted, I ended up going the more expensive route. Totally worth it! I was able to get my new Kenwood touchscreen system installed the very next day. Custom Car has a lifetime installation warranty which means you can have them take out your system if you get a new car (just hang on to the factory radio). The labor was more expensive than the actual product, but it did seem very labor intensive, albeit I have no clue if it is or isn't. I ended up spending my entire tax refund and then some, but I'm so excited to have Bluetooth. It's like I have a brand new car! Aside from audio systems and speakers, they do window tinting, cameras, key fobs, and just about any other car build you can look for. I totally recommend them! read more

Several years ago I took my dune buggy in to have a lights and a custom dash built and I left totally disappointed and swore I would never go back. After hearing that there was a new staff and and installers I took my dune buggy back. When I arrived I was greeted by a sales person who immediately came out to my car. The salesperson gave me several option on my upgrade and although not able to work on my car for a couple of days offered to to take the car at the time "that was awesome". I got to take a peek at the work as it was being done, that made me feel more at ease that I could trust them with my car this time. I'll start by saying I NEVER write reviews on companies and hate that I'm even having to spend the time doing this, but hopefully it will save someone else their time/money/headache because I'm out on all of those. Awhile back I spent around $2500 for a whole new system upgrade in my Jeep. The $700 head unit barely made it a year before dying unexpectedly. I was informed by the sales manager that CCS and the manufacturer couldn't figure out why it died but they would try and fix it. Weeks go by with an empty whole in my dashboard waiting on parts to come in... sales manager offers to put in a lesser value and quality temporary head unit so I can at least have music, I agreed and was very thankful. Weeks go by and sales manager writes me message on Facebook stating that since it's taking so long to fix the old unit they would just replace it with a new head unit. Fast forward to installing new unit: I have a 2013 Jeep with drain plugs under the carpet that aren't in so while driving on a wet roads the floorboards and carpet may get wet. Technician calls me and says that even though the temporary head unit that they installed isn't damaged and works perfectly fine, they can not take it back because of the possibility of it breaking at a later date. I've spoken to multiple levels of management when it first happened months ago (GM even hung up on me at one point) and now can not get a single response from them. I even requested to have my broken head unit back but was denied that as well. I'm now stuck with a head unit that is not what I originally purchased, cheaper, and quality is much less. This company will give you the slimy salesman pitch and act like they really care about your business until something goes wrong where they think they may lose a profit. You can see in other reviews below that putting the blame back on the customer is something this company is not shy of. I spent $2500 with this company, instead of caring that the customer is happy with their service and product they are proving they are only worried about one thing and one thing only, themselves and profit. As we read their upcoming slimy response to this I would strongly encourage you all to think twice before walking in their front door... or just pray to god nothing goes wrong before The blame is back on you and you're sht out of luck. I got screwed over hard but will make sure I continuously share this story everywhere in hopes that it doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

I replaced the OEM stereo in my 2012 Corvette with a Kenwood, sounded a little better but not right. Then I replaced all the speakers with recommended ones ( from other vette owners) and soundproofed the doors and back of the car. Better but still not right. I admit I am an old fart and if the radio doesn't have a balance or fader knob, I am lost. How far from the tweeter is my ear? Really? I couldn't get the thing adjusted right no matter how hard I tried. I came across Custom Car Stereo at a local corvette show. I never usually give this type of business a second look because, hey, how hard can it be? I put the thing in the car myself, didn't break anything but couldn't get it to sound as good as my Nissan truck. After talking with the people for a few minutes I decided to stop over at their shop and let them have look. I went in and talked to a guy named Steve ( I discovered later that he might be the owner), he came out to the car and said it might just need some tuning. I asked about a conflict with the Kenwood and the Bose amp that I left installed in the car, and he said maybe, but maybe not. I got an appointment and came back expecting it to be there for the day. The tech I worked with was named AJ and the guy is a musician. He knows what things are supposed to sound like. He came out to the car to verify what I thought was wrong and he sat in it for about a half hour, playing songs off his playlist and adjusting everything that could be adjusted on the Kenwood. Finally got to the equalizer screen and again, he just sat there with his playlist moving lines back and forth on the screen. I was sitting there while he did it and it was a pleasure to watch someone who knows what he is doing, AND he enjoys what he is doing. We got all done, it now sounds like a concert in the car. I said let's go settle up and he said...NO CHARGE! He didn't rewire anything, just played and tuned it. I told him that I had already left a deposit and as far as I was concerned, they could keep it since he spent time with me that he could have been doing something else. I drove home with a sound system deserving of being in a vette. . 4 hours later Steve, my original contact, called to check up on everything and make sure I was happy. I most certainly was and the best part is that they know their way around a Corvette. The bottom line here is that if you need ANY kind of stereo work done in the Charleston area, go see these guys. They match internet pricing. And they know what the word SERVICE means in the term CUSTOMER SERVICE. I cannot recommend them highly enough. Tell them the guy with the red C6 sent you. read more

2008 Purchase new boat from Duncan Marine. Boat was sent to Custom car Stereo for Speakers and Head unit install. System was installed and worked well. 2010 Purchased New GMC requested rear audio installed like similar to factory. Selected Custom Car based on Dealer recomendationa and previous work. The headliner was nearly destroyed. Tech over cut and used wood screwes to attempt to sucure. After several hours on late delivery as promised I went into shop and observed they had installed a plastic trim to cover the over cut. When brought to owner Steve Cramer attention he offered to upgrade to large unit to cover the mistakes. We did not need nor want a lrge unit. We had no choice but to go with larger unit. This created blind spot in rearveiw mirrior when down, thus limiting the use in the end would not have gone with TV due to this inconvience. 2014 Installed head unit in car. Controls did not function on steering wheel correctly. Returned for service was repaired. Lost function of back up camera shortly after. Blue tooth device added not funtioning. 2015 Custom Car Installed audio on boat. Took two weeks to complete. Blue lights turned out to be purple and no dimmer avalible after several request. Sytem worked well but took way to long for install and noticed tech working on other boats in between ours at marina. For the cost of the install we should have received better service and remedy the deck lights as they like the TV were not functiuonal due to saftey concerns. Custom Car is a FULL RETAIL OPERATION and while providing quality components will PRICE GOUGE at every oppertunity! read more

I went in on a Saturday morning around 930-10 and there were 4 or 5 other customers in front of me. I watched as they handled each one one in a very courteous manner. Nick helped me. I was looking to modernize the stereo in an older car. Nick was very knowledgeable and showed me 2-3 different options. I ended up going with a new head unit and they were able to utilize my factory speakers and amp and it sounded fantastic. They installed it on the spot in about 2 hours and the install was perfect. I went to them in November 2018 with my truck to get my audio system upgraded. I have been into Car Stereo since I was in High School. I decided that I want to have a very high end audio system installed in the truck. Brian and I sat down and went over different equipment and he keying off of some of my past systems, put together the ultimate audio dream for me. I dropped the truck off and let them work their magic. The install is amazing and looks factory. All of the wires are hidden, speakers are in factory location, and you can't even tell there is an audio system in just by looking in the vehicle. It's now got a 1000 Watt studio sound in it. They did an amazing job of tuning the system after it was complete. It truly sounds like a live concert in my truck. Andy is amazing at tuning the sound. I took the truck back last week to be retuned after a year. They absolutely outdid themselves again with the retuning. It was amazing sounding when I first got it but it is even more amazing now. Those guys are great. I also took my other car in after the truck was complete and let them work some magic on that too. Again, they came through with an amazing install and awesome sound. I am very dissatisfied with the poor quality and high price of a backup camera system I had installed on my automobile. The total price was $575 of which $350 was for parts. A comparable back up camera system can be purchased online for under $50 including shipping and tax. The monitor I ordered was to have grid lines to help when backing, but the unit installed had no such feature. When I asked an employee for monitor's manual, I was informed that it's a cheap monitor and there's no documentation with it. Two months after purchasing the backup camera system, the monitor came loose from the upper left corner of the windshield while my wife was driving in traffic. The tabs on the bracket broke off when she attempted to reattach the monitor. I returned the monitor to be repaired, but in the three weeks that followed I was unable to talk to anyone on numerous occasions who could tell me when the unit would be repaired. I finally drove to the shop and said that I needed the monitor assembly repaired and installed that day. A day after the monitor was reinstalled, the rear-view camera came loose when the adhesive on the bracket failed due to heat. Rather than go through the ordeal of returning to the shop to have the camera reattached, I used duct tape to reattach it myself. The irony is that I was willing to spend more money to have installation done right. I would've been much better off purchasing a backup system online and installing it myself. read more

I went there to fix an installation that was done by another company, I told them what kind of music i like(house) and my budget , they gave me a price that was good for me and i left my car there. after an hour they call me and explained me what's wrong with my system. It was a long list of bad things that was done to my car but the worst was the mounting of the sub to the back of the seat where all the batteries are located (its an hybrid ) they had to replace 2 of my new speakers and another 2 parts that i don't know their name , build a custom made piece to make it look good , mount my tweeters IN the doors (not like the other company that dril it to the door). with all the extra work and time that took them to work on my car they didn't charged me extra $, According to them: they set a price withe me and that's what they will charge me , the extra work that they had to do is because they can't let a car leave their shop and not look perfect ! Last Update: August 1: Arrived about 15 minutes before the appointment time. General Manager and Service Manager both met me, we went over the order and my truck was put right into the bay. Installation looks good and all seems to work okay. Now satisfied and recommend Custom Car Stereo. July 31 I received a call from the General Manager. He was friendly and cooperative. Arranged to schedule a definite time to install and offered me some perks to make up for the issue I experienced. I thanked him for the offer; however, all I wanted was to have an install as agreed. He personally set up time tomorrow. July 30: I arranged to have a Viper alarm installed in my truck at subject business. On July 23 (when I went in and discussed the system) the Viper alarm was one that is displayed with the others offered. He said they were out of stock and would have to order it; get it by the following Tuesday (July 28). I paid $100 down for the item as I agreed to an install time the next week at 1200 noon; July 30. I arrived July 30 at 1140 AM, 20 minutes early. I was then told by salesman John that I would have to leave my truck and could pick it up at end of business at 7:00 PM. When I paid the down payment I was told it would be a 2 to 3 hours install, that is why I made the 1200 noon appointment. Now he says 1200 noon was a drop off time not an appointment and he told me that on July 23. Not true. It was a definite appointment time as I told him I would have to wait for it. I then asked him if he knew when they could start on it. He said he did not know. AND . . . The installation bay was less than 50 feet away! He tried to use "circular logic" to explain his position. I was not buying that at all and decided to go elsewhere. I then told him to forget it and I wanted my $100 deposit back. He started to do it and then after a few seconds he said no refunds on a special order. Nowhere on my sales receipt does it say "special order". There is a mention in lower left that special orders must be paid in full. Poor service and installation After spending over two thousand dollars, I returned on Saturday morning, after the Friday install. I had almost no FM reception. I told them, I read a blog with others having the same issue ( power antenna needed to be hooked up) so after briefly pulling it into the shop, the guy push me off like spent money and did not acknowledge the problem. I left there shop disappointed. They wanted a deposit and to be paid when it was completed and I deserve the same respect. Later I called them about the issue. Nick said they didn't have the time Saturday and stated I didn't have an appointment and now Nick doesn't have time until October 3rd, 3 weeks later. I respected that he was getting married but that didn't fix my problem. It was fixed on Oct. 3 rd. and it was the power antenna that needed to be connected. They didn't brother to return the vehicle clean again and they offered no apologies for my inconvenience. Last week I had to take the vehicle to the dealer for an unrelated issue which required that they loosen the new radio installed by CCS.
