Our A/C unit's A-frame condenser coil developed a big leak. So, no cooling. I called Custom Cooling and they responded quickly. The technician was extremely courteous, knowledgeable, carefully explained everything, and answered all my questions. The unit could be repaired and he told me the pros and cons of doing that. He also wrote up an estimate for its replacement, which I appreciated. I chose the repair (this time) and they ordered the necessary part. It will be tough being w/o air conditioning in Florida for a few days until the part arrives and the repair done. Reading time: 3:20 I've been a Custom Cooling customer for around 15 years; a satisfied customer until this last routine maintenance appointment on my AC system. A younger tech came yesterday afternoon and I let him do his thing with the outside unit after I moved the garden hose over for him to use for cleaning out the compressor unit. When he was done with the outside he came in to check out the air handler. After he finished, he stated everything checked out and I'd be receiving the invoice and report in an email. A few hours later the invoice arrived witch had one attachment. The attachment was a bunch of photos with no captions with them. But there was a photo of him spraying the outside of the compressor unit. So I went out and looked inside the unit. I'm a bit of a DiY guy and I usually will follow the tech around, try not to bug him or her with too many questions and I learn a lot. This time I didn't follow him around because I was busy inside, keeping cool. One of the important parts of routine maintenance is removing debris from the cooling coils of the outside compressor unit. Every tech I've watched doing this first cuts power to the unit. Removes 4 screws that secure the fan unit to the top of the base and carefully lay it to the side, being careful not to damage the attached wires. Next, they take the garden hose with a nozzle (don't use a power washer, the force can bend the little cooling fins) and spray from the interior of the unit toward the outside, through all the cooling coils that form the wall of the unit. This can greatly improve the cooling efficiency and reduces the work on the compressor. There's always leaves and debris on the floor of the unit that's best removed with your hands to work around all the wires and tubing. When I went out to look in the compressor unit the floor was littered with leaves and crap. Heaven-forbid, the tech should dirty his hands! Instead of paying the invoice, I replied back stating the tech cut corners and didn't properly clean out the compressor unit. I said there were no photos documenting this. Only one, showing him spraying water to the outside of the unit. Maintenance was not properly done and I wanted it corrected. They asked, what could they do to satisfy me. I responded, send out a different tech to do the job right. Their reply, they reviewed the procedure with the tech and it was done satisfactorily by spraying the inside of the unit through the fan unit. Have you ever tried that? All you do is make that big fan spin like a top and spray water all over everywhere but where it should go! In addition, they were very cordial to waive the $100 bill and cancelled my account and threw me out in the street! Okay, I exaggerate. All I can say is, that's customer satisfaction on a whole new level! In the meantime, I went out and did the job myself and sent the time-stamped photos to Custom Cooling. read more

2 yrs ago my 16 yr air unit died. The company I was with for 20 yrs kinda just walked away it was a weekend. They still had not got back to me on Monday with price for new and install time so I called Custom Cooling. They came to my home immediately with prices and a time frame for new air. Inventory was low everywhere then but within a few days they had a unit and installed it. Their service was outstanding. Well, 2 yrs later the new air unit wasn't preforming well so I called them. Well it was bad news. I needed a new evaporator coil and Bryant didn't have one available for 2 months. That was not acceptable as Florida is extremely hot in the summer. So they contacted Bryant and fought for me to get a new replacement unit. Something that companies rarely do. But, they succeeded and my new unit was installed first thing this morning. We are an AC issue and called in for service. Within 30 minutes Nick ( Technician) was onsite diagnosing the issue. Nick was professional, pleasant and knowledgable. Upon inspection, Nick explained the problem we were having and suggested a longterm, cost effective fix. Called this morning at 8am because thermostat would not change mode to heat. Technician arrived in less than 20 minutes and replaced thermostat, confirmed that heater was actually working and had it all done in 10 minutes. We have a 3 year old AC unit and a service contract with this company. They do maintenance every six months. However, in the past year, the unit has broken down three times and this company has charged us almost $1000 in service charges/parts/labor. How is that even possible? Very unethical!!! Latest charge was $560 following hurricane Irma. Price gouging following a tragedy? We think so. Beware!! read more

Tech came to give a quote. Rude to our home watchers and then said we were down 4 to 5 pounds on r22. Then advised we needed all new duct work, thermostat, and ac unit for a total of almost $6,000. Our home watch person said they didn't even check the duct work. Got a 2nd estimate the next day who thoroughly checked everything. Our duct work was fine, our thermostat was fine, our unit was only down 1/2 a pound of r22 all we needed is a new unit for $4,200. Don't trust them! read more
