Fred Kobie, Kobie Kooling president, is a verbally abusive bully, who instead of working with their valued customers in a way that creates customer loyalty, he could care less and files complaints against the competition who takes business away from his company. His total lack of respect and integrity is evidenced When we asked for a refund of our maintenance agreement that we renewed 8/13, 3 weeks before Irma hit. He responded by saying the maintenance agreement has no cash value and therefore, there is no refund. So, he's not only devaluing our payment for service but also slamming his own service product and technicians. We had 4 estimates for new a/c and duct work. Kobie was the 2nd highest and we told them that. Our a/c system went out a couple weeks after Irma hit, even though it was serviced by Kobie on 8/12. Fortunately, we called Gulf Shore based upon their customer service and fair price estimate. (not the cheapest estimate, either). As hot as it was at that time, we were grateful Gulf Shore installed our new duct work and a/c system when we really needed it. Kobie Kooling? Never responded with a more competitive price or refund of the "no cash value" maintenance agreement We had a long time relationship (over 15 years) of Kobie maintaining a family property. When we bought our home last year, we continued with Kobie. They lost 2 contracts and the company President filed an insurance fraud complaint against Gulf Shore, which is nuts bc we didn't get insurance reimbursement for our a/c system. Fred Kobie harassed me through several emails, even after I asked him not to email me any further. He continued. He clearly isn't respectful of anyone and has no desire to maintain and retain customers. At the least he's a bully. More concerning is verbally abusing a female customer through email.i If you don't mind paying money for nothing (maintenance agreements), repairs that don't fix the problem, and have the company president harass you via email if you stand up for your rights, then Kobie Kooling is the company for you. If you want to be treated as a valued customer by a company with integrity who provides quality service and products, you should absolutely NOT choose Kobie. Run away and don't look back! PS The end of September as we were picking up after Irma, we received a late notice for the capacitor and maintenance renewal. The fact is we paid via check the date of service 8/12. The check cleared our bank a few days after the service call. Their accounting team isn't any better than the president. We have been working with Kobie Kooling for years, and I can't ever see myself calling anyone else. They have been responsive, thorough, and willing to go the extra mile. One August, a while back, we were waiting for wedding guests to arrive at our condo. The night before their expected arrival was hot and muggy (August in Florida), and we had the Florida nightmare scenario: NO AIR WITH GUESTS ARRIVING FROM THE NORTH IN THE MORNING. I called Kobie Kooling. Mike Kobie came out that night and installed a loaner compressor that got us through the wedding, cool as can be, until he was able to install our new unit. More recently, we closed on and moved into a single family home nearby. We learned that the permit on A/C changeout by a different contractor had been cancelled and the contractor had gone out of business, which could have meant big daily fines if we could not bring the unit into compliance and close out the permit on a short deadline. Once again, Mike Kobie showed up, got the permit reopened, prepared the unit for inspection, had it inspected, closed out the permit and, voilà, the day was saved again! One last story: The other day, I couldn't figure out how to remove the grill from a ceiling return in order to clean it (the house had been unoccupied for three years). I called up Kobie Kooling to ask for help and the receptionist passed the phone to Fred Kobie, who walked me through what turned out to be a fairly easy DIY job, except that he knew what could go wrong -- damage to a newly-painted ceiling -- and told me how to avoid trouble. I want to note that Kobie Kooling is run by scammers who have filed numerous small claims lawsuits against individuals who try to do a partial chargeback for their unethical work. Watch out for unenforceable penalties in small print after you sign your credit card charge. They try to scare you into paying extra $ to make it go away and to sign an NDA so no one can talk. I took him all the way to trial and they never even showed up because they know they're scamming. During mediation, he cursed me out and told the mediator he was the worst person he's ever seen at his job and that he "does these all the time." He wanted the mediator to help him scare me into paying. I took him to trial and won because he didn't even show or refile. It was all a bluff to get free money and an NDA. A few years ago I was "taken" by the locally known A/C con-artist. I heard Kobies ad on the radio saying they are offering free service for those who had lost their contracts due to the unrighteous work ethics of this particular company(that is now out of business, but still practicing under a new name). I thought that was very admirable. After doing a little research, I seen that the Kobies have raised their family's in our area and are large contributors to our community. I figured, this is a company I would like to use since they show such compassion for our communities. I have now been using them a few years. Each and every technician has shown unbelievable knowledge and experience in the field.From the descriptive detailed notes, to the many photos they take,It's all about accountability and trust. I called Kobie Kooling for an estimate to replace my 13yr old A/C unit. When Mike arrived he looked at my A/C and asked why I wanted to replace it as it was still in great condition. I told him that the blower in the air handler quit running last night and the coils froze up and I had to shut it off. He said it could possibly be the capacitor that was bad and not the motor. He went out to his truck and came back with a new capacitor, he installed it and turned the power back on and I now have A/C again. Mike could have sold me a complete new unit, after all that is what I called him here for, but instead he repaired my old one. To top it all off he gave me the part and did not charge me to install it. There wasn't a service call charge either because he was there to do a estimate. We have been with Kobie cooling for 23 years. They have been working on the AC unit every 6 months. We had to replace the AC unit back in 2019. Which was the original that the builder installed. The AC unit has been working great since then. We had Kobie remove all the duct work and installed new duct three years ago. What a big difference. I called on Monday to let them know we were having a AC problem. Izaiha Rios was sent to your house that day. Izaiha was very polite and VERY Knowledgeable on the AC equipment. He explained what the problem was and how he can fix it. So we contacted the office to schedule. Izaiha came out the next day. Izaiha did everything that needed to be done. The AC unit is working great now. Then explained to me what he did. Very Impressive gentleman. I will recommend Kobie Cooling & Izaiha to all my friends and family. Betty S. Nov.29 2017 We can't say anything bad about Kobie Kooling. On August 30,2017 after Hurricane Harvey our AC went out. KK brought a window unit for our bedroom until ne AC could be installed. Before that could happen Hurricane Irma Hit. finally on October 2,2017 new AC and duct work was installed. Oct 3, unit will not shut off. Nov. 17, unit not sounding right. When Bill our technician came out he said it needed a new compressor. Needless to say we were not happy with that since the AC was not even 2 months old with problems from day one. I have them do the maintenance, so they know the history of my units and they always are honest and fair. Had my A/C unit replaced on 10/19/18 by Kobie Kooling. I appreciate their open and honest approach and didn't try to hook me on some promotional financing option that would cost me more in the long run. Installers arrived promptly at the promised time; they were professional; answered all my questions; and did a great job in a timely manner. They even made sure they cleaned up their mess and didn't leave it for me to handle. The difference between my old unit and new is amazing: the new unit is much quieter than my old, and the volume of air movement is substantially better than I could have imagined. Mark came by to do our 6 month maintenance. First off he was right on time and he called 30 minutes ahead to say he was on his way. He was awesome very nice polite clean even took his shoes off before entering our home. Mark was very professional and helpful and educated me on the unit. Mark thoroughly checked and cleaned the compressor outside and boy it needed it you can see the dirt run off. I have been dealing with Kobie Kooling for several years. They installed a two stage Bryant/Carrier unit a few years ago. There service has been terrific. There pricing has been very reasonable. I have two neighbors who have had them install new systems. My electric bill was significantly reduced by the new system. Kobie Kooling is hands down the best A/C company in SWFL. When my unit quit working on a 92° day, they had someone at my condo within two hours of calling their office. Turns out, I needed an entirely new system as mine finally crapped out after about 16 years. The technician mentioned it would be about two weeks until the install but he went above and beyond to find a window unit for us which really saved the day.
