6/10/22 the city failed the Egress window Schultz put in, stating it needed a drainage system after…read morethis had been done over a year ago. Brandon, the owner of Schultz, never completed the permit. Our basement had flooded once in 2021 and again 2022 due to his faulty work. Schultz came out and claimed they installed a drainage system. Schultz told the city they did this but did not show them. On 6/29/22 the city stated it was approved based on what Schultz told him. On 7/26/22 my basement flooded AGAIN, it was the first rain since the last time he worked on our property in June of 2022. Per code in our county a window well has to go to a French drain or daylight drain if those are not present then one needs to be put in or a sump pump needs to be put in, neither was done. Two city inspectors came to our home on 7/27/22 after my husband dug all the way down to the footing and confirmed there was no drainage system in place. The lead inspector Brad at St Charles city called Schultz and advised there was no drainage system in place and Schultz needed to call us to make it right. Schultz met with us on 8/6/22 at McDonalds and advised he WOULD NOT be doing anything to rectify the situation. Then Schultz continued to lie stating the engineer was working with him on a current job which in fact was a lie after speaking with Broughton Engineering. Broughton Engineering also stated there needed to be a drainage system in place. Schultz STILL refuses to provide insurance information which tells me they have none. Schultz was sued for over 99,000 by a previous customer which I found out later and has yet to pay a penny of what he owes her. Brandon also admitted in court he had NO INSURANCE. This is not the first time he has done shady work. I have reported him the the BBB and Attorney General. Look at his google reviews. Check out "Deals Gone Bad" on FB, many others have pleaded with people to avoid him. Keep in mind some of his reviews are from his friends and wife. This man has only been in business five years and many people coming forward with issues and no resolution from Brandon. I have paperwork from the city stating Schultz is at fault, my adjuster and the engineer STILL Brandon refuses to do ANYTHING.

He promised a receipt and estimate would be delivered by email later that day. That never happened. After three days of me contacting them, I finally got an email estimate that left out several items that we had discussed. One of those items was a hot water tank flush. They wanted to add $525 to the estimate for this service! When I refused and pointed out that a typical rate is $150 to $250, they told me it required a "special machine". That is a lie. Nevertheless, I scheduled an appointment for the rest of the service. They canceled by text 2.5 hours before. We scheduled for the next morning. They canceled by text 2 hours before. We scheduled for the next morning. They canceled by text 20 minutes AFTER the appointment time. I did manage to get a refund of the $125.

Work was done using the wrong type of materials, then when they were called out, they tried to convince us that how it was done was acceptable. A buddy, who's a union journeyman plumber said, "let me know if you need me to send them the plumbing code." Drain joints were installed without pvc cement, wrong size pipes were placed together without a proper fit. Parts of the job weren't done when they were supposed to be. What really killed me was when we'd find these problems, we'd get multiple promises that they'd be over to fix them, no apology, and then no one would show up.... REPEATEDLY. Another thing: (I had to read their only other review on google to remember this) that they pushed us to continue making payments before work was complete. We were told, "we need money for supplies", when all they were doing was adding some PVC drains! As if they need $500 for parts for that! After using them, the only person I'd recommend them to is their own mother.

I did a $50k renovation of my 1908 victorian and these guys showed up at 7:30 every morning and worked steadily all day. All of their craftsmen had great attitudes, were friendly and hard workers. Nathan the Project Manager returned calls quickly and was available via text and email. Kept the project on time and finished in six weeks. My favorite was Greg who worked on site everyday and was able to troubleshoot any problem we had. Nothing ruffled him and he always said "we will figure it out". Gave me a great deal of relief and confidence that the project would be done right. Really was well organized and did top notch work. A gem!

We hired Tratt to demo and design build a new detached garage. We started working with them in May…read more2023. We finalized plans by August and agreed to a final cost proposal in September including an estimated 2-3 month project timeline. At first, they provided okay communication, a bit slow at getting back to us but we figured they were busy. The demo began in September 2023 and was completed by early October. Concrete began a couple weeks later and finished in October 2023. Framing in November then roofing and rough electrical by late December 2023. In January, communication broke down. Calls and texts went unreturned while we waited to hear when siding and gutters might come. Near the end of January to our surprise the owner of the concrete company showed up at our door informing us that he had not been paid for the work that occurred back in October and that he would put a lien on the property. We informed him that we paid Tratt on time for each invoice. We finally got in touch with Tratt and inquired about the concrete. They claimed they were disputing their invoice. At this point, we had been waiting a long time for the siding and gutters. Our expectation was the same company would do both but according to tratt no one was getting back to them. In February they opted to do the siding themself. The siding on the back of the garage was misaligned significantly (1" or more). When we pointed this out and asked to correct it they got defensive. They claimed correcting it would mean a portion would no longer be to code and so they would charge for the time. They did eventually fix it but made a mess while doing so. We had to pick up the trim nails left behind all over. Around the same time we received the Notice of Claim of Mechanic's Lien from the concrete company. Then a mere 10 days later, we received another (!!!) Notice of Mechanic's Lien from the truss company. We asked Tratt why they had not been paid, and they continued to feed us more excuses. They claimed they didn't show up to the meeting location to pay the invoice in November and that their bank account was hacked so they couldn't accept a check. Tratt said they will be paid. We called the truss company a couple weeks later to see what was going on and they said that they have not been able to get a hold of Tratt, that they still had not been paid, and that the story of them not being at the agreed location to collect payment was not true. Over the next 2 months Tratt was nearly impossible to get a hold of. We called, sent numerous emails, and texts asking for a clear schedule for completion, lien waivers on completed work, and a listing of the subs. Tratt never provided any of these things. Wanting to make any progress we could we went ahead and called in the framing inspection that Tratt neglected to do in December and the inspection failed with several issues that needed fixing. Shortly after, we were included in a lawsuit against Tratt because of the nonpayment to the concrete company. At this point (April 2024), our lawyer sent a demand letter to Tratt, asking how they plan to correct and finish the garage. The garage was now 4 months behind schedule. Tratt ultimately abandoned the job having never responded. In June, we hired a new contractor to correct the defects and finish the job. Such a big difference! We were treated with professionalism and honesty, a far cry from our experience with Tratt. We were dismissed from the lawsuit in September, but not before receiving one final parting gift from tratt-- another (!!!) Notice of Claim for Mechanic's Lien, this time from the electrician. To their credit we messaged them and explained the situation and they did not end up filing a lien. The case we were dismissed from concluded October 9, 2024. Tratt never showed up. The judge issued default judgment against Tratt.

The work done by Tratt CS was all quality. The pricing was fair. However, the communication was a…read morenightmare. Texts and calls would frequently go unanswered--until we threatened to fire them. Shouldn't take threats to get basic communication.
