In early September of 2021 Lee Jarnigan…read moregave us an estimate of $18,000 to replace our existing deck and two gates and said he could start in late October / early November. We gave him the down payment of $9,300 he requested to purchase materials. Didn't hear from him again until after we reached out to him early November, and from there things got very interesting. Began with the COVID excuse, then other family health issues. This continued until March 2022 when he FINALY came out and tore the existing deck down. That took him about four hours, after which he simply left the mess along the side of our house instead of hauling it away as per our agreement. Afterward his excuses ranged from phone problems, weather, childcare, truck and trailer stuck in the mud, etc., always with promises to come out and complete the work by a certain day, which were never fulfilled. Then he asked us to pay Home Depot for another materials order as he had to return the materials he supposedly bought with our original down payment. Against our better judgement we did so as we were desperate to get our projects completed, and the total cost would work out to just under what we originally agreed to. Once the materials were delivered to our house (we had since disposed of the old deck mess ourselves) he came by twice for three or four hours and did just enough work to keep us hanging on. We finally fired him in late April and hired another contractor (who we were very happy with) to complete the job. This cost us an additional $10,000 in labor and materials, which we were happy to pay. The new contractor found some major deficiencies in the partially built deck Lee had constructed, so this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Bottom line - we're out the $9,300 initially paid to Mr. Jarnigan and are looking to file a court claim against him for breach of contract. He does not deserve to be in business. If there were a rating lower that one star I would give him a minus five!
