I was the only customer, the worker was very friendly and nice and let me have samples before I made my decision. I keep a keg of German or Czech lager on tap at home and the guys at CHP order my kegs in, hold them until I finish my current keg and load my car with the new keg. Couldn't be any more friendly and helpful. read more

A bright spot in Matthews! I first spotted Custom Brew Pubs from the road traveling down Independence Blvd. The shopping center it is in has long since changed hands (I think there used to be a K-mart or some big box store there).... but now it's frequented by the Elevation Church on weekends. Anyways... back to Custom Brews. It's a great place for making your "man cave" with keg-erators, tap handles, glasses, and even a little tap bar to try some local brews. They've had tasting events were the rep gives you a taster and you guys can go taste to your hearts content. Often with tasting events comes a local food truck to supply the food. Looks like they do provide equipment and ingredients to get your own "home brew" started as well: bottle capers, buckets, brewing kits. Plenty of parking available, and easily accessible to 485, this place is definitely a cool place to check out, hang out, and keep up with all things man cave, beer, and just having a good time. read more

Cool shop for all things home-brew. Knowledgeable staff with loads of spare parts, systems, and beer itself to send you on your merry way and blissful nirvana of getting drunk at home and not having to worry about getting in the car for another beer run. The staff could be a bit nicer, if I'm being blunt and honest - there certainly is an air of self-righteous snobbery going on. But to be honest, that's almost forgivable these days given the recent douche-infestation of the craft beer game. Once through the prickly exterior however, the staff proved to be wicked smart and helped me with my home keggerator questions. Would love to see more variety on their keg list. Seemed to be overly crowded with stouts, IPAs and heavier stuff for the more rotund connoisseur. Lining up some more Pale ales, or even some of the India Session IPAs would be a most welcome adjustment. This is also one of the only places I'm aware of in South Charlotte that will refill your CO2 tanks. read more

I cannot say enough good things about Custom Home Pubs. First off, Spencer did an excellent job of installing my kegerator. Unfortunately, they did not sell the kegerator I wanted (3-tap, built-in) so I had to buy it online. No matter though...Spencer came out, drilled the holes through our countertop, and setup my kegerator perfectly. Custom Home Pubs also does special orders for kegs and you don't even need to be a regular, unlike some local places. As a relatively new kegerator owner, we signed up for the annual service plan. I'm not sure if this was necessary or not, but with all the perks that come along with their service plan, it seemed like a no brainer for year 1 of ownership. first I'd like to note that this is a 3.5 star kinda joint so not a bad place. I'll start with what I like. They always have a great little draught list, yes at the back is a little bar area. Small, cozy, TV, seating for ~10ish people comfortably. And prices are reasonable as well for a pint of good craft beverages. They will often have rare stuff too, just the other day I was in 2/20/14 and they still had hop slam on tap! Also had it in bottles! (Might be last place in CLT). Which takes me to next point! They also keep a limited selection of bottles 12's and bombers...and selection is always pretty good I.e. still have hop slam and priced fairly as well. Also deserves mentioning, they have everything to hook your man cave up!!! I'm pretty sure this is where they make majority of revenue. They were even featured recently on the man caves TV show in DIY Network I think. Kegerators, tap systems, home brew stuff, decor, they got it all, they even sell kegs! Very good prices on a few of these I noticed. Side note like once a month on Thursday or friday nights they'll do a tap takeover from different breweries, usually $10 for your full fill of sampling and glass to keep! read more

We have been using custom home pubs for quite some time. Overall they have been good until today. Today we had our kegs swapped out for new ones like we normally do. The guy came in and started doing the work. I needed to attend to other things work related so I left the guy alone to do what he needed to do. The guy finished up and proceeded over to me to hand me my receipt and said everything was good to go. After a few minutes went by, I went over to the keg and noticed the tap handles were left loose. So I called customhomepubs and spoke to Spencer, and said he would turn the guy around to come back. Spencer called me back and advised that the guy didn't have the proper tools to tighten it. I was upset at the fact that the guy left and didn't tell me that the tap handles weren't tight like they should have been. Then Spencer turned into the biggest douchebag on the phone. read more

Still a good place but it has gone down hill since Clay left. He would order a keg for you and call you when it came in, less than a week max. I ordered a keg on the 17th, I called on the 24th, not in yet. I checked their available kegs and didn't see anything appealing. On the 30th, I checked their available kegs and see the one that I had ordered. I call the store and they say that mine is not in yet, they will re-order it for me. It's obvious that my keg was sold to someone else. Again, it's not a bad place but the customer service has went way down hill since Clay left. read more

So, I've been a customer of theirs for 4 years, having my outdoor kegerator serviced 4 times a year. I recently asked them to service my kegerator as part of my quarterly agreement. I was out of town at the time. When I came home, my taps were crooked as I had left them because I had attached my Randall to them. Without checking my lines, I emailed them and asked them if they had actually cleaned them since the taps were still out of line and they said yes. I asked why weren't the taps placed back in the normal position and they said they thought that's how I wanted them, which makes no sense. My response was "I guess. Tnx". Here is Geoff's (the owner's response): You have been a customer of ours for a while, but you are acting like a jerk. Since you are questioning my integrity, I will be refunding your pro-rated service plan cost (minus the cost of the co2 tank we replaced) and let you find someone else to clean your lines. Please refrain for visiting our store in the future. Geoff Well, needless to say, I will no longer be asking them to service my kegerators, nor buying kegs or CO2 from them. What kind of customer service is that? Sounds like displaced aggression to me. Either they have a serious attitude problem or they are doing way better than any business I have patronized. I've used Custom Home Pubs for the last 4 years to service my home kegerator. I started with them based off a recommendation from my brother who used their service for several years. When I first started with them, there were maybe only 2 or 3 people that handled deliveries, serviced my equipment, took orders etc, including Geoff, the owner. At that time, they were great and often went out of their way to give recommendations and answer any questions or concerns that I had. Over the course of the last year, the service has steadily declined to the point that I will consider managing my own cleaning and maintenance from now on. They no longer seem interested in providing any added value outside of line cleaning and keg delivery which is fine but to me it's not worth paying a premium. read more
