Love this small jewelry store, stocked with beautiful pieces. This is also a favorite location for me to go to when I want to sell gold.

Callie gave me more options in detail in case I wanted to do something different with the ring in the future.

I've had this necklace for 15+ years and while I recognize it isn't the caliber of most of the jewelry Schiffman's sells, it is very precious to me. It was mildly tarnished all over as pictured in the photo, as silver this pure doesn't stay clean for long. I was recently laid off and wanted to wear my necklace to a job interview. The red-haired sales girl -- I didn't catch her name -- actually turned her nose up at my necklace when I took it out. She did that judgy little exhale through her teeth and said "It's SO tarnished, I don't know if we can do it. If we can, in that condition it'll be a charge, let me see what the jeweler says" and took it to the back, then came back and said because of the "condition" it'd be $75 because they'd have to "really work" it on the polishing wheel and it would take a couple of hours. It genuinely was not even that tarnished, and a chain like this can't be put on a polishing wheel. You put it in cleaner and maybe a sonic bath. It was clear they just didn't want to do it, which was fine, but there was no reason to lie. I wasn't comfortable proceeding with the service after that. She said I could try getting a polishing cloth on Amazon until I got back on my feet. The whole exchange was insulting and left me crying. Like I said, this piece might be beneath them, but it is everything to me. I would have been more than happy to pay, but the attitude was entirely unnecessary. I took it to a different jewelry store nearby and wouldn't you know it, they put it in a sonic bath and cleaned it, free of charge, in about 5 minutes while I browsed. I will be going to that store for any future jewelry needs, while Schiffman's has ensured I will quite literally never set foot in there again. It costs nothing to be kind and can affect someone's opinion of you for a lifetime. Do better.

I received a notice about this estate event and it prompted me to inform people about what happened…read moreto me at State St. Jewelers. In June 2023 the diamond fell out of my engagement ring. I took it into State Street Jewelers along with my other heirloom antique family ring. I was having trouble with the antique ring staying stones up because the their weight of the stones and the atrophy of my finger. They showed me various ways of correcting the problem with their best suggestion being the setting that opens like a claim shell with an instrument that opens the setting in half. I was told I needed one new diamond in the antique ring because one was chipped in addition to the new setting to keep the ring from rolling under to the palm of my hand. I also elected to upgrade my wedding band from a band with diamonds going 3/4 of the way around to a full eternity ring with larger diamonds. With the larger diamonds, it was too much to continue to wear all three rings on on one finger so I opted to have my engagement stone placed in an earring setting and bought an addition stone that was the closest stone to match. We pay a lot of money for the new setting, the replacement stone for one that I was told was damaged, a new eternity band with more diamonds, an additional diamond to match my engagement diamond and then to have both of those made into earrings. After all was done and delivered I was happy with the looks. The earring were fine and the eternity ring was fine, Unfortunately, after only wearing the antique ring for a short period of time the clam shell setting popped open for no reason. When it popped open my ring fell off. Fortunately it fell in the car and I was able to locate it. I took it in and they adjusted it. Then it happened again. I took it in again. All of these incidents happened in a short period of time after receiving the ring. I felt that the setting was defective but State Street insisted on doing minor adjustments and returning it to me. In October we moved from Greensboro to Maryland. After arriving the same problem continued to persist with the clam shell popping open with no cause or reason. I contacted State Street and let them no about the issue. I was told that I would have to return to Greensboro to have anything done to fix the ring because they would need to have my finger. I am not driving 7 hours to have them fix a ring that I was having problems with before we left. I continued to wear it a short time after arriving in Maryland until the frequently in which it opened on it's own made it too risky and I have not worn my ring for a year. I am very disappointed that with the amount of money we spent and the problems I had right after receiving the ring. Their only solution was for me to return personally to Greensboro. The setting was clearly defective and should have been replaced after the second time it popped open. All the money we paid to State Street jeweler and I am going to have to pay for a new band here in Maryland. A band that was clearly defective from the start. So think twice about doing business with State Street unless you are absolutely sure you will never be leaving Greensboro. I got a defective band and now the cost of replacing that is going to be on me. To say I am disappointed and unhappy is putting it mildly.

I can't say enough good things about Jewelry Appraisals of NC!!!!…read more I called to ask if I needed an appointment and although she said I did she fit me in that day. She asked what I needed appraised and what I was looking to get out of the appointment. I was very clear with her on the phone that I was looking to authenticate a piece I bought online and that I would not be getting paperwork. Which means the appraisal is free. They only charge if you want paperwork to insure the item. I was a little hesitant because everywhere else wanted to charge just to look at the piece. But I went in and Karen was amazing! She looked at the piece thoroughly with several pieces of equipment and went to ask her other appraiser to double check her thoughts. She didn't even ask me what I paid for the item until after she gave me all her findings and thoughts. So I know she wasn't just telling me what I wanted to hear. (A little background... I brought in an antique camphor glass necklace. The value of it is in its age and detail not so much the material. It is really valued more as a piece of art then a piece of jewelry. Because if you scrapped it the materials would be worth very little). She was spot on what I paid for it. So I was relieved that I didn't over pay. Especially understanding that a piece like I had the value is a bit subjective. And even though Karen knew she wasn't going to make a penny she took all the time in the world to answer every last question I had very thoroughly. She even took the time to give a look at my vintage engagement ring and talk about that. She gave me estimates to fix some things and was not pushy at all. And the price to fix the items was pennies . Furthermore, had I wanted a written appraisal their prices are very low compared to other jewelry stores. And here is the thing folks. They are APPRAISERS. This is what they do!!! Not a side hustle for a jewelry store, this is what they dedicate there knowledge to!!! I will forever be taking all my pieces to Karen and Jewelry Appraisers of NC for appraisals and repairs and I suggest you all do the same!!!!!

My packages were hacked by USPS and were given to me cut open with no jewelry inside when I went to my local post office to pick them up. I had to start USPIS investigation because theft was done by a usps employee while packages were in their custody. So this jeweler tells me to file an insurance claim, which I did. I kept asking them if they insured my packages and was getting a vague response each time with no proof of insurance. Come to find out they insured my jewelry worth $1800 for only $100. And they are blaming me for selecting free shipping, which they advertise on their website, that my purchase qualified for. Nowhere in the checkout process did it say that free shipping only included $100 insurance. And nowhere during checkout did it offer any options for additional insurance. So this seller basically doesn't care whether the buyers get their packages or not. They just care about getting their money. So now I'm out of pocket $1800 and this seller refuses to take any responsibility for their negligence. This business is unethical. PLEASE SAVE YOUR MONEY AND TIME FOR OTHER ETHICAL JEWELERS. I ABSOLUTELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND EVER DOING BUSINESS WITH THEM.
