I came…read moreto Crown Heights with basically no knowledge of the history of Chabad or the Rebbe and why Crown Heights is such a special place. I was "just along for the ride". Starting our trip with Mayer and his tour was the perfect way to begin. It gave me the foundation of where we visiting to build off of the rest of the trip (it made along for the ride turn into a start to my own personal journey). Mayer is an open book and answered all questions no matter how basic. He made everyone on our tour feel comfortable and you can just tell by the way he explains everything that he really enjoys what he does! I have recommended this tour to all of my friends of all different walks of life!

We saw the Levi Yotzchok Library (wow), the scribe and a whole wall of Torah's to be examined- writing of the blessing for the mezuzah, a Mikvah with a very beautiful description of the purpose and meaning, and of course the the world famous 770 synagogue which is the headquarters Chabad- lubavitch movement. It was something to see! The Lubavitcher Library was filled with priceless artifacts of all the Rebbes including Baal Shim Tov. Our guid was a Rabbi and not only talked about the sites but about Judaism and Chassidism philosophy. I can't recommend this tour enough - and so inexpensive! I can't wait to come back and do it again!

Before I begin this particular Yelp I should let anyone who reads my offerings know that I cannot…read morerecall ever having even been to this part of Brooklyn before in my life. While I've known about the section affectionately known as "Little Caribbean", I've just never found myself over there before. That ended today when I was working nearby on a quick project and since I remembered that one of the YES events had been held there not too very long ago, I decided to wander in and experience the vibe for myself. I was glad that I did. For starters it was bone cold that day so being inside a quaint shop like this just to browse their offerings for a few minutes was quite welcome since it let me warm up as well. Now according to their staffer, Oliver, they had been there a couple of years now and they appear to stock all sorts of wonderful trinkets and shirts and some spices all with that Caribbean vibe. The store features numerous vendors from the islands and that is what makes it the most interesting to me. They are the place that lets you find scores of creatives and that keeps it fresh since you never know who might end up using this space to bring you their stylish island creations. For me, the cakes and the spices spoke to me the loudest but holiday budgeting only found me snagging one of the cakes to have at home later on. The rest of the items that I observed are suited to those who you might know from the assorted Caribbean regions or maybe even planning on heading there for some vacation. It was 100% a very unique establishment and I wish them the best of success in bringing the vibe of the islands here to Brooklyn, especially on super cold days like this one where I would swap for someone on beach in a heartbeat. With the holidays heading our way you should look into this shop if you have friends or relatives that this speaks to the loudest.

The staff was extremely helpful in showing me different sizes and colors of a sweatshirt I purchased and ensuring I left with a smile on my face. As a native New Yorker, my partner loves the crewneck I gifted him from here and has yet to take it off! Great place to buy one of a kind gifts or items to treat yourself while learning about the neighborhood and the people that make this city so wonderful.

We chose the private family tour and booking was quick and easy and the customer service as great as I remembered. On to the tour itself: Luke met us at the Museum of Natural History on time and we got reacquainted. My son is autistic and can have some trouble warming to new people but absolutely no the case with Luke, he immediately put my son at ease and they were chatting like old friends as we made our way into Central Park. The tour covered loads of Central Park, including an exciting off track visit to a secret cave, the plaza hotel, grand central station, some fun subway rides, and concluded at the Brooklyn Bridge. But more than just seeing so many iconic sites, Luke had hundreds of facts and stories (which my son loved) about what we were seeing. It was truly like spending a wonderful day with an old friend. I cannot recommend highly enough Luke and Real New York Tours. Until next time!

Side note, I am pretty sure it's free for solo people, but if you go with a large enough group, they have a $5 fee per person, which is reasonable. In general, I would recommend coming here in the fall, not just because the weather will be nicer, but also because the trees are beautiful, and winter is nice as well, due to the frozen lake, among other things. The spring is nice as well, but there are better places to see leaves in bloom, as there are more wintery shrubs here. The area is massive, and you could honestly spend many hours going to various corners. There are highlights such as a well-known view of the Statue of Liberty, many sculptures, and graves for people ranging from Samuel Morse to Boss Tweed to Leonard Bernstein to Louis Comfort Tiffany to Henry Chadwick, among others, along with many people from various wars, of course, such as the civil war with one particularly interesting grave having a confederate and union soldier next to each other for reasons. The place is particularly well-maintained compared to other cemeteries I have been to, with the entrance being striking among other things.

From the time we signed up, to the time we boarded the plane to return home, TEP took care of every detail. We commented amongst ourselves that we felt like kids on vacation with our parents, as we didn't have to worry about any of the details - just show up and follow Neptali (our guide). From airport pickup in Cusco in luxury Mercedes vans where we were promptly served Coca tea to help with the altitude acclimation, to group dinners at amazing Peruvian restaurants, to historical tours and education on the history of the Inca - everything was covered and taken care of for us. And that was all before the amazing trek along the Inca Trail to Machu Picchu! Of course the trek itself was the highlight of the trip, and although it was extremely challenging for us, TEP's unbelievable attention to detail did not fail us on the trail. With nearly a 2:1 porter to trekker ration, our every need was met on the trail. We dined like kings every meal, and were consistently amazed with the quality (and nutritional appropriateness) of the food our chef and sous chef were able to put out with minimal kitchen conveniences. The thing I felt was most special about TEP's approach to this trip was the focus on gaining a cultural and historical appreciation for what we were experiencing. Every step along the way, we learned about the native people of Peru, the Inca civilization, the many ruins we came across, the vegetation we saw and how it was and is used, and the history of modern Peru. It was the trip of a lifetime, and have the help of The Explorer's Passage made it so much more enjoyable, and so much more memorable. The value of what they provide is amazing for the cost....rather, for the investment. I highly recommend them!
