Everything was going great, came in for the consultation for a custom half sleeve. Paid $40 for the sketch, got a rough sketch three weeks later and then nothing. I reached out multiple times over two months and Greg never got back. Sweet business model of taking our money for sketches and then ghosting customers. First of all, I called and literally was in the chair within the next 30 minutes which was awesome. It was my first tattoo (6/14/18) so I was really nervous and indecisive and Greg was SO nice and incredibly patient. The whole process took like 30 minutes and he redid my stencil for me and was extremely patient and understanding while I almost fainted. Greg = one of the owners of Custom Tattoo = super nice guy who wants you to feel good about your tattoo and will talk through/work with you to make sure it's just perfect. I got my mom a gift certificate to Custom Tattoo for her 50th birthday a few years back; she'd always wanted a tattoo but had been hesitant with the follow-through her whole life. Claims of "I'm going to get a huge badass snake tattoo running down my entire arm!" were obviously bogus, although she sure liked to talk big... Enter myself and my brother throwing down to get said birthday gift certificate. Now you have no excuse not to get that biker snake arm badassery, mom! Of course she opted for a slightly-smaller than hand-sized tattoo of an Iris, her favorite flower. (I told you... all talk on that snake business. Pfft.) After some help easing her into the process itself - she was so *so* nervous - Greg worked with my mom to make her feel comfortable with sizing, placement, and the artwork itself. She ended up loving the Iris tattoo she had done by Greg on her shoulder blade; and while it turns out she's not great with the buzzing/needle/actuality of the tattooing process, she rocks tanks in the summer like no one's business to show that thing off. I recently got my third tattoo, and my first at Custom. Everything about the shop, its owner and their work was top-notch. My artist was Greg, also the owner, who made me feel comfortable throughout the whole process. I came in with the basic design, and he made the modifications I asked for and created a picture of what I wanted. When it came down to the actual work, he was really friendly, relaxed and helpful in answering the care questions I had. The shop is immaculate and bright, and they usually have tunes going. I got tattooed to some Beck and Tom Waits which helped me relax during the 2 hours I was in the chair. My tattoo is nothing short of spectacular. I know that with one touch-up appointment, my Custom tattoo will most certainly be my favorite. I'll upload a photo for the site when it heals, but you have to trust me, this is a great shop. Greg Foster is my favorite tattoo artist! I cannot recommend him enough. He's done a few of my tattoos in the past and I'll continue to go to him in the future. I love traditional style tattoos, and Greg really excels at it. Thick, solid lines. Bold colors that haven't showed signs of fading. I've come in with an idea of what I want to get done, and he draws it up super quickly and it looks EXACTLY how I want it. Prices are competitive, and honestly inexpensive for the quality. They don't do any Friday the 13th specials, but I come here on Friday the 13th anyway because I'd rather spend more money and get something that takes more than five minutes in a packed room full of people who want to spend $20 on sub-par work. Street parking can be a doozy. I recommend scheduling an appointment. read more

My wife and I take frequent trips to MKE from Chicago and I was looking to get a ring finger tattoo to celebrate our marriage. Everyone at Custom Tattoo was very friendly and helpful, and even though I was only getting my lip pierced, I didn't feel like the process was being rushed or taken less seriously than if i was getting something more complicated. The shop is clean and bright, and in no way scuzzy, and noone had that pissy attitude you kind of expect to encounter in a tattoo shop. Really nice people! I haven't had any abnormal problems with my piercing (it's been 3 days since I got it), and I had a good experience overall, but to be honest, I don't think I would get a tattoo here. I was maybe a little spoiled, because I got my first 3 tattoos done at Insight Studios (in Chicago, check them out!) and couldn't be happier with them, so I do have really high expectations of tattoo artists as a result. The tattoo work at Custom, at least based on what I saw in the artists' portfolios, is a little inconsistent. Some of the work is truly beautiful and really well done, but enough of the other stuff has amateur problems, like shaky and heavy-handed linework, that would make me too nervous to go here for any inkwork. That might just mean that the portfolios are in need of an update, with some newer and better (and cleaner) stuff; I'm just going off of what I saw on their site and what was in the photoalbum next to the counter. I definitely wouldn't write these guys off completely, and their pricing is really fair ($25 for piercings, including the jewelry). Just be careful, because you do tend to get what you pay for! read more

Amazing experience ! I worked with Troy on a tattoo I have wanted for over 3 years and could never find the right artist to do the work. I love tattoos but have always hated the experience. When I shopped around a lot of artist were rude or tried to pressure me to get the tattoo they wanted to make . This was completely different. Troy treated me with respect and really took the time to create what I wanted. He took the ideas I gave him and improved the design. The tattoo was pretty big and his wonderful personality made the experience of having it done meaningful. He was funny and let me take breaks when I needed it. Today I just got my first ink at Custom Tattoo. Mike was the artist I worked with there and he did a great job taking my ideas and the multiple images I emailed him and integrating them into a fantastic design. He worked fast and his shading suggestions were great and really added to the design. I might have given 5 stars, but since this was my first tattoo I don't really have anything to which I can compare. His price seemed very reasonable. He quoted me a price that was higher because we weren't sure if we would use other color or the complexity of the design, but he came in under the quote which was a great surprise! read more

I came here for a cover up tattoo, and was told I'd need to cover it with three large flowers (it's a pretty small tattoo, and he was suggesting a half sleeve to cover it). Couldn't make an appointment for another month and a half. Didn't receive any sketches like I had asked, and once I finally saw them, only two flowers were done and the wording was completely wrong. After much hemming and hawing, I decided to get re-pierced while in the Milwaukee area. I had gotten a piercing at Gothic Body in the past, which was a so-so experience. I remembered seeing Custom Tattoo appear on the east side a year or two ago and checked out their website. I was pleased by it's sleek design and the fact that piercings are only 25$ including jewelry! The studio is extremely clean and well designed/decorated. Terrible customer service and sub-par artistry! Me and my friends will not be going there again. While my tattoo turned out nice, it was simple and took little effort. My boyfriend on the other hand got "With great power comes great responsibility" done on his forearm by a guy named Cole last year. The end result is anything but professional. The lettering is uneven, not sharp, and there are various places where he did not fill in ink on his arm. We came in with the font printed out for him so there is no excuse for the lettering being off. I recently left Custom tattoos a message about our experience and asked about getting it fixed but have not heard a response; no "we're sorry", no nothing. This business clearly doesn't care about keeping customers or acknowledging their mistakes. We'll be finding a parlor that doesn't just want our money next time. read more

My sister and I both had a phenomenal experience with Custom Tattoo! Upon entering the shop I immediately noticed how clean and neat everything was. It is clear that they really take pride in their business. We were both nervous to get our first tattoo, but Greg made us feel comfortable and at ease! He made sure that we were handing the pain ok and even told lots of jokes to distract us. It really felt like we were all just hanging out and made the pain of the tattoo seem a lot less intense. The artwork that Greg designed for our sister tattoos was exactly what we had asked for and we couldn't be happier with the end result!
