A Cut Above Paradise - Me a couple hours after the perm and me thinking it's still OK? Even though a giant section of it was already straight.

I just moved to the area from Florida and was nervous about finding a stylist/colorist in Paradise…read more I went to "A Cut Above" and was thrilled with the results. Tonia was great getting my brown back to blonde without the brassiness. She gave me a lift with a layered trim and I couldn't be happier. Yes . .. I am a fan.

I went to A Cut Above with extremely long hair, clear reference photos and one request:…read moremedium-sized, full, defined curls. I also explained that another stylist had previously damaged my hair and that trusting someone again was difficult. Dianne began cutting without first confirming how much length I wanted removed. I did not see her perform a preliminary test strand or check a test curl before removing the rods. I firmly believe my hair was not sufficiently saturated and the solution was not left on long enough. Before I even arrived home, I called because an entire section had not curled. That was only the beginning--the remaining curls fell out within hours. I followed every instruction and waited exactly 48 hours before washing my hair. Time-stamped photographs prove the curls were disappearing long before that wash. Within days, there was barely even a wave left. My hair was frizzy, wiry and uneven, and I stayed home because I was too embarrassed to go outside. All I wanted was an apology and a full refund. I received neither. When I reported that the perm failed, Dianne did not ask what happened or express sympathy. She immediately focused on telling me I should not have washed my hair early, even though I had not. When I explained that I waited 48 hours, she said she had no proof. She blamed me and defended her formula and timing instead of acknowledging the visible result. Dianne then claimed an in-person examination was required by "policy." No such policy was disclosed, provided in writing, posted on the salon walls or presented for my signature. Owner Tonia later confirmed that neither she nor Dianne had a written policy and that nothing was posted on the walls. I provided extensive time-stamped photographs, but they were dismissed as insufficient. I briefly agreed to an inspection, then canceled after Tonia called me before reviewing all the evidence, raised her voice, made assumptions and accused me of being unable to regulate myself while she was yelling. I experienced her treatment as hostile, demeaning and bullying. A failed service could have been resolved with compassion, an apology and a refund. Instead, I was blamed, dismissed and treated with hostility. I have retained the receipt, reference photos, time-stamped images and complete conversation. I left with failed hair, no refund and no apology. I cannot recommend A Cut Above.

I went to her days before my wedding I took a chance and asked her to please be careful bc there is no time for fixing anything lol. I explained to her exactly what I wanted she made sure we're on the same page and it made me feel comfortable. All the girls working there was kind and very nice we had a good laugh and it made me feel comfortable and will definitely go back because I'll be a new local

I cancelled so she would be able to fill my spot with someone else. She texted me while I was snowed in saying I owed a cancellation fee that was 3/4 of the price of lashes. I told her that I did not know there was cancellation fee since she had not told me about it while we are on the phone and therefore did not think I should have to pat for it to which she agreed. As an ex-stylist I understanding needing to put another customer in place of a cancellation. She had plenty of time to fill my spot. My guess is that she did not cancel on her book. About a month later I called to book an appointment after being snowed in for 2 weeks. I asked the person who answered to ask her to return my call. She did not. I messaged her a few days later to ask why she did not call me and she replied that she would no longer accept me as a client and that I should have cancelled on the website. I can't find a web site for them. I feel that since I cancelled in time to allow her to book a client and had not contacted her through her website that this is uncalled for and just plain rude and uncaring. I do NOT recommend her services and because of her behavior I do not recommend Roots Beauty Bar for any service. They are not from Paradise and have no feelings or understanding of Paradise residents and all that we have been through with the Camp Fire nor how we treat each other. A little understanding and caring would go far with her. Valerie is NOT recommended!! Do not book with her!

Want to feel like a million bucks and enjoy a salon with a cool vibe and even cooler stylists?…read moreCheck out Da Capo salon. Quilla Sorensen does a fantastic job for me and I love her positive attitude and hilarious sense of humor. The salon is welcoming with tons of greenery. Makes for a relaxing, but somehow invigorating atmosphere. Quilla's chair partner, Britney, does a great job for her clients too; I see them walking out looking with a shiny and well-styled hairdo! I was lucky enough to nab Quilla via a referral from a stylist who left a couple of years back and wouldn't hesitate to recommend her for anyone looking for a stylist; I am just happy she is at Da Capo as the owner, Danielle, has great taste and did a fab job with her salon! Alli had a cancellation for tomorrow and is wondering if you wanted to come in a earlier for your appointment? She is thinking tomorrow at 315? Me: Hi there! I'm sorry I would have loved to but I can't I have work appointments scheduled tomorrow. I'll have to keep my appointment for 8/28 if that's ok. Da Capo: No worries, just thought she would offer. Me: I appreciate that thank you guys! (Next Day) Da Capo: Hey Tisha, Da Capo front desk. I am reaching out aboutthe appointment on the 28th. There was a mix up with Alli's books, unfortunately she is not going to be in the salon on the 28th. However, we do have a stylist available that same day but the appointment would be with Megan at 9 am. By chance would you be okay with seeing Megan ? We are so sorryabout the mix up. Me: Hi there! I'm not sure how comfortable I feel with a new stylist, I haven't been successful in the past.. that's why I travel for my hair appointments. It is a little strange that you reached out yesterday to re-schedule my appointment for today.. and I mentioned my appointment on the 28th but now she's unavailable.. Da Capo: She was not available to start with unfortunately, We completely understand. I am happy to see if Alli has other days available. *Remind you people schedule these appointments months in advance and take time off from work. Thank you
