It's less than a half mile long, but it's packed with some very cool sights. It was very calm and picturesque as we strolled along the shore with views of Mackinac Island, the ferry boats, picnic tables, a few historical monuments, and a sundial where your shadow tells the time of day. The highlight was the impressive Chief Wawatam Lighthouse, accessed by walking down a pier from the main boardwalk. Plenty of great photo ops are everywhere.

If you're visiting Arch Rock, one of the most famous rock formations on the island, then you will…read morewant to pop into Milliken Nature Center. It's right there! Milliken Nature Center is the place to visit to learn about Arch Rock, that interesting rock thing that you're looking at. There are exhibits inside this small nature center that explain the history of Arch Rock, plus other things about the geological makeup of Mackinac Island. It's a super small nature center, but it's a cool place to learn more about the island. The tricky part is getting here. Milliken Nature Center sits on top of a high part of the island, so you either need to walk or bike (which would be rough!) or take a horse-drawn carriage, like I did. The carriage tours wind their way to Arch Rock, and stop for 10 to 15 minutes, so you definitely have time to visit the nature center and use the restroom if you need to. Restrooms are located just outside of the nature center. This nature center was a nice surprise on my tour, and I'm glad I visited. I don't know that I'd go out of my way to visit Milliken, but if you're visiting Arch Rock, you definitely need to pop in.

A hidden oasis with lots of potential! I recently visited on a weekday in late July and despite the…read morerain, there wasn't too much mud to wade through. We had been planning on playing the 9-basket disc golf course when we got to MI, knowing that it was a very low rating on DGCR, but were pleasantly surprised. I am happy to say I've been here, done that, but probably a one-time visit for me. From the pictures, you can see it's obviously a lush and clean park with dozens of activities available for children and adults. Most of these installments are a little run down, even in the middle of summer tourism, particularly the markers that tell you where the tee is (some are in pieces, some are plain missing). Luckily, we had enough service to search it up on a dedicated disc golf site and were well on our way. Main upsides include a clean bathroom, picnic and barbecue area, visible baskets, and beautiful landscaping. Downsides? The overgrowth around the edges of the park, where all 9 tees are situated. I lost my favorite disc in the 8ft shrubs, and some tees were completely in the shrubs. Also, this park was a little difficult to find as there aren't signs for it (unless you're coming up one particular path). So after an afternoon of walking the paths to Arch Rock and Fort Holmes, we struggled to get here without the help of a sometimes spotty Google Maps. Pro tip: download the Google Map of the island before you go walking.

With Michigans wide range and disparate landscapes, I was sure I was gonna get some sweet terrain to challenge my disc golf savvy. What I got at great turtle park was a bit disappointing. This park is good for your mid range or putter but it is flat. I would say you could probably make all the shots without having to bust out the driver, with maybe the exception of one hole. The baskets are not cemented into the ground, there is no tee off sign for any of the pins, and there aren't platforms. Rather, kitchen tiles mark the starting points for all the holes. These disappointments for a serious disc golf fan, make the park a three. The park itself is gorgeous and in the middle to high park of the island away from most of the tourism and people, so that's worth a few stars. Overall, however, the disc golf part of the park really soured my experience as it seemed like an afterthought. I rated this park three stars because: 1star: bathroom on premises. Nice. 1star: park itself is a cool spot, away from tourists. Good family/community area. 1star: disc golf here. Something's better than nothing. 0star: disc golf course missing tee signs and platforms, baskets are free standing, showing the non-commital nature of whoever put them in. 0star: hole nine missing tile that tells you where to start, all disc golf baskets within sight of the starting point, no sweet Michigan terrain involved, flat course.

It took us one hour to do the 8 miles loop and we stopped for the bathroom. I had a townie with a basket. It was in good condition. They are cheaper than other rental places. Having the speeds was beneficial on the couple of hills we encountered.

We rented from Ryba's Bicycle Rentals. Rental rate seemed fair, but we did not shop around so they may have been the most expensive for all I know. A total of 12 of us rented bikes from them. All the bikes rode well. Everybody had a great time biking around Mackinac Island. Safe to say that we all recommend using Ryba's Bicycle Rentals when you do not want to walk around the island. We heard so many great things about this zoo and decided to give it a try. The tickets were $17 per…read moreadult and children 2 and under are free. They also charge different prices for the feed as well. This zoo was super cool. They have a little tropical house with different animals inside. The sloth was super cute and the bats were cool. They had animals that I have never seen before as well. On the outside there are trails that lead you to different areas. Everything is fenced off and there are signs as to what you can feed. They also have a parakeet house which we paid $2 for the kids to get sticks to feed them. This was the best part and I strongly suggest doing this. There were so many different animals to see. We saw some different types on the trail as well. It was super quiet and a nice nature walk. I really enjoyed it. We only stayed for an hour because it started raining but it is really easy to get through it in an hour.

The worker was friendly but his computer crashed and he was unable to rent bikes because of it. He said it happens at least once a day, which is not great for business when bike shops are pretty plentiful. He asked what bikes we wanted and he set them aside. He asked for us to wait until his computer started up again. We sat out front and waited and within 15 or so minutes we were back in business. We got 7 speed bikes and a card is needed on file before you take your bikes out. Baskets for your bikes are provided. Our bikes were in decent condition. My bike gears were worn out, so you couldn't tell your settings. Not horrible since we were just biking around the island. The coupon helped our total for the price of two bikes that we had taken out all day.

Staff took great care of us, sized my kids well for the right bikes, and were pleasant to chat with through the whole process.
