Lots of benches to just sit and chill. Places to fish along the bank, as well as a little fishing pier. During the winter months the snow is not cleaned up on the road or benches; you are on your own. People still crive into the park so it is accessible by vehicle or you can walk in (it's not that big). Bring something to sit on if the benches might be wet or snow covered. Parking in the park is available, or you can park in the lot just outside the park and walking. Dogs are welcome, but should be leashed if there are oter folks in the park. During the really cold months, and bad weather your pup can run free as the park tends to be relatively empty. Poop bags for your do are available at the entrance / exit. Please cleanup after your dog. Don't miss Rotary Park if you're in the Soo.

You'll want to make the effort to get up the hill to see it. You can walk up to Arch Rock, but keep in mind that it's all uphill! Or you can bike (again, uphill) or do what I did and take a horse-drawn carriage. Arch Rock, and the adjacent Milliken Nature Center are one of the stops on the horse carriage tours. You only get about 15 minutes to check it out, but how much time do you need to look at a rock formation, no matter how pretty it is? There's a deck that takes you out a little closer to Arch Rock, and from here, you can take lots of beautiful photos of the water peeking through Arch Rock.

It's worth overlooking dozens of turds to take in the view from the park. Marquette Park sits under Mackinac Fort, so every so often, you'll hear a loud boom coming from the general direction of the park. It sounds like something exploding. Is it something exploding?! No, not to worry: It's just the ammunitions demonstrations taking place right above the park at the fort. You'll probably, eventually, stumble upon a structure in the park that looks like a hut. This hut is actually a reproduction of a chapel that signifies the first European presence on Mackinac Island. Who knew! It's open during certain hours, so hopefully, when you visit it, it's open so you can peep inside. Like any good park, Marquette Park has a playground. The playground is pretty basic -- a couple of slides, some monkey bars, a few things to climb. But it's a playground, and kids will have fun. Kids tend to make the most out of everything! May we all be childlike in that way. There are some statues at this park, too. One of the main statues is the one depicting Father Jacques Marquette, a French priest who established Catholic missions in the Upper Peninsula. What else? Oh: One of the great things about this park is that it's centrally located. It's at the end of the main strip in downtown Mackinac Island. Just walk all the way down the street until you can't anymore, and you'll find Marquette Park. The park sits on a bit of a hill, so you'll see great views of the lake and the boats at the dock.

So while the family rented bikes to ride and explore the island.....I just wanted to find a nice place to take a nap. I found the perfect place to rest, and that place was called Marquette Park. Marquette Park is located close to Fort Mackinac. The park is so green, and there are many shaded places to relax. I found a nice cool shaded grassy area, and I simply lied down & went to sleep. Maybe some folks thought I was just some homeless guy sleeping in the park, but I did not care cause I was exhausted. It was one of the best two hour naps that I've ever taken!! When I woke up, I chillaxed and people watched. There were many couples and families relaxing and walking around the park. Such a nice place to hangout while you are on Mackinac Island!

The park is…read moreoutside the toll area so you can stop here, do your viewing, hang out and if you're not headed to the Lower Peninsula, head onwards. The park has a visitors center that includes lots of information on the construction of the bridge, how it was done and such. There is also a video on loop. There are restrooms, too. Plenty of parking and lots of room for larger vehicles, too. Please take a moment to pay your respects at the Bridge Memorial that is dedicated to the five men who lost their lives in the construction of the bridge and since who were working on it. We are on the Lake Michigan side of the bridge - the other side is Lake Huron. If you want to dip your feet in the cold water, you can do that here. The park connects the Lake Huron Boardwalk with downtown St. Ignace and borders a quarter-mile long stretch of a pretty pebbled beach. You get really good views of Mackinac Island and the Chief Wawatam Lighthouse. You'll also be close to a veteran's memorial and shipwreck monument. If you're an active sort of a guy or gal you can snorkel, swim, or launch a kayak or canoe here St. Ignace's "Music By The Bay Summer Series" is held right here, so every night from July 1st through September 1st you can check out the local musicians. I would suggest visit the Mackinac fort then exit at the back to the arch. This is better after the fort because you already went to the elevation of the arch. So the climb is already done. This is a great state park to visit. I haven't camped here yet, but I've visited multiple times to…read morewalk on the (admittedly short) trails. The trails are well maintained with gravel, although some parts can be muddy if it had rained recently. At this time of year, be sure to bring plenty of bug spray! You can see views of the bridge from several view points, or soak in the woods and wildflowers. If you're not sure what to do, the park ranger in the fee booth has great recommendations, as well as lawn games if you're bored when camping. Note you need to pay an entrance fee if you don't have the Michigan recreation passport (you pay when you register your car in Michigan).
