The park offers various educational programs and experiences throughout the months, has a unique gift shop (the staff was great as well), and has several walking trails to enjoy. I love that you can learn on your walk by reading the various signs posted. It would be fun if they did an educational scavenger hunt on their educational trail, as that would be a fun way to learn. It's just a short drive from Mackinaw City and this place has been on our bucket list for a few…read moreyears. The place is nice but it is not exactly what we were expecting. The path is well marked with red lights (no white lights allowed). They do have bathrooms there too. It just felt a little underwhelming and over populated (and we went on a cold fall night). Some people were packing in wagons and had flashlights which was annoying since the white light ruins your eyes when they are adjusted to the dark.

Well, we missed the 10:15 ferry by a minute, then were too far back in line to catch the 10:30. We ended up on the 10:45 ferry and I called to say we would be late. Our guide, Glen, and the two other kayakers were so gracious as to wait for us. We were so grateful! It helped that the shop is right next to the ferry dock. Glen was a great guide. He was very attentive to a member of our party that was not experienced, and gave clear direction. After we got in a groove, he answered my stream of questions about the island and was a wealth of information. He took our photo in front of the arch, and came to my hangry rescue with a granola bar I desperately needed. We were so glad to get out of the crowds and be on the crystal clear water of Lake Huron. It was so peaceful. The kayaks and life jackets were very comfortable. I highly recommend Great Turtle Kayak.

When a horse has to go, a horse has to go and it isn't perfume or roses. Kayaking around the island and seeing the sights is a wonderful addition to the experience. The equipment is an excellent shape and the guides are well trained, informative and funny too. Don't forget to visit their gift shop..... nice shirts at a good price too.

Plus they have a big statue of Paul Bunyon and Babe. The gift store is total tourist kitch and junk but it's all part of the charm. It won't blow you away but the view was fantastic from the top. It's a short hike up some somewhat steep stairs, kids will be fine with it. Not handicap accessible. It will take maybe 15mins to get up. Only costs $1pp! There's a gift shop at the bottom that sells touristy items. Also large statues of bunyon and blue at the bottom. It's not going to fill your whole day but a nice rest stop adventure.

It's worth overlooking dozens of turds to take in the view from the park. Marquette Park sits under Mackinac Fort, so every so often, you'll hear a loud boom coming from the general direction of the park. It sounds like something exploding. Is it something exploding?! No, not to worry: It's just the ammunitions demonstrations taking place right above the park at the fort. You'll probably, eventually, stumble upon a structure in the park that looks like a hut. This hut is actually a reproduction of a chapel that signifies the first European presence on Mackinac Island. Who knew! It's open during certain hours, so hopefully, when you visit it, it's open so you can peep inside. Like any good park, Marquette Park has a playground. The playground is pretty basic -- a couple of slides, some monkey bars, a few things to climb. But it's a playground, and kids will have fun. Kids tend to make the most out of everything! May we all be childlike in that way. There are some statues at this park, too. One of the main statues is the one depicting Father Jacques Marquette, a French priest who established Catholic missions in the Upper Peninsula. What else? Oh: One of the great things about this park is that it's centrally located. It's at the end of the main strip in downtown Mackinac Island. Just walk all the way down the street until you can't anymore, and you'll find Marquette Park. The park sits on a bit of a hill, so you'll see great views of the lake and the boats at the dock.

So while the family rented bikes to ride and explore the island.....I just wanted to find a nice place to take a nap. I found the perfect place to rest, and that place was called Marquette Park. Marquette Park is located close to Fort Mackinac. The park is so green, and there are many shaded places to relax. I found a nice cool shaded grassy area, and I simply lied down & went to sleep. Maybe some folks thought I was just some homeless guy sleeping in the park, but I did not care cause I was exhausted. It was one of the best two hour naps that I've ever taken!! When I woke up, I chillaxed and people watched. There were many couples and families relaxing and walking around the park. Such a nice place to hangout while you are on Mackinac Island!

I would suggest visit the Mackinac fort then exit at the back to the arch. This is better after the fort because you already went to the elevation of the arch. So the climb is already done. It's less than a half mile long, but it's packed with some very cool sights. It was very calm and picturesque as we strolled along the shore with views of Mackinac Island, the ferry boats, picnic tables, a few historical monuments, and a sundial where your shadow tells the time of day. The highlight was the impressive Chief Wawatam Lighthouse, accessed by walking down a pier from the main boardwalk. Plenty of great photo ops are everywhere.

We were looking for an adventure with our new-ish kayaks. We fortuitously read a Michigan tourism magazine tucked into the Chicago Tribune; the magazine featured a story about kayaking in Les Cheneaux with Woods & Waters. It sounded great! Though we are comfortable on the water, we thought it would be good to have a guide in an area new to us -- and Tim was a perfect guide for our half-day paddle! We learned so much about this beautiful and interesting area, saw an eagle and its nest, did a quick mid-paddle hike to get an amazing view to go with our rock skipping and gained a few kayaking skill tips that will make us better kayakers. It certainly was a bonus that the water and weather cooperated -- water like glass and just enough sun. Tim - thanks for the advice to do the Narnia hike - that was our afternoon adventure! We ended our day at Les Cheneaux Distillers. The day couldn't have been better. We loved our paddle so much and felt comfortable with our newfound knowledge from Tim that we went back for a quick paddle the next morning. We wish we could have stayed on the water all day! First, I will comment to say that the paths of walking in this park were covered with geese poop and was not maintained by anyone to pick up. A few of those filthy animals were wandering around but not near my walking. No park attendant employees around either since Season over for maintenance? This park is known for evening entertainment called "Music in Mackinaw" during the summer months of July 4th - August 27th. On Tuesday's is a band called "Straits Area Concert Band" and on Saturday's is a variety of Musical groups of Jazz to Pop. *Bring your own Lawn Chair.
