Please check your prescriptions before you leave to ensure they are correct. We have received incorrect medications for our toddler. Additionally, it is very difficult to get someone on the phone. If we call, at least 50% of the time, no one answers the phone, even after we let it ring for 30 minutes before we give up. Worst CVS in Virginia! I'll never shop at CVS again due to the deplorable customer service.

My veterinarian wrote an RX for my diabetic cat, so we could obtain a sensor/reader combo for monitoring blood glucose levels. The prescribed product was the "Freestyle Libre 14-Day" sensor and matching reader, and the process at the vet involves physically embedding the sensor in/on the cat...you then (theoretically) wave the reader over the sensor, and it tells you the cat's blood glucose levels. Abbott, the manufacturer, makes several very similar products - including the "Freestyle Libre 2" sensor/reader combo...when Omid at 5101 Duke Street filled the prescription, he managed to give me an FL2 sensor and an FL 14-Day reader - not what the RX called for at all. (Incidentally, Abbott's FL 14-Day and FL2 products don't/can't "talk to" each other, so mixing their product lines like this will ensure you can't get any blood glucose readings.) I didn't catch the mistake, because - like an idiot, evidently - I assumed a pharmaceutical professional would accomplish the task of reading and following directions correctly. The vet didn't catch the mistake either - they embedded the FL2 sensor in my cat, and they were stumped when the FL 14-Day reader gave back no useable data. It was only after a couple days with no helpful data that I went back through all my various FL paraphernalia and realized the mistake. After checking with the vet, I went back to 5101 Duke Street to get an FL2 reader, to go with the FL2 sensor already embedded in my cat. Just so happened Omid was working. I acquainted him with the mistake he'd made, and after a couple half-hearted "sorrys," he actually had the nerve to say, "it happens." "It happens?" It's not hard to imagine the same kind of basic reading/following directions mistake, by a pharmaceutical professional, resulting in serious injury or even death of a patient, human or otherwise. Gotta wonder if a negligence lawsuit against CVS would still have one of their employees spouting off this kind of crap. On top of all this, after a single interaction with this store, CVS now seems to be robo-calling me pretty much daily. If you have anything to do with this store, with CVS pharmacies, and particularly with Omid from 5101 Duke Street, be prepared for the necessity to research and double-check everything yourself. If you expect them to actually do their jobs, you'll be disappointed. read more

If I could give zero star, this is that one time I wished Google had the feature for me to do so. This CVS is truly awful. This was my second visit to this pharmacy within the span of three hours because they couldn't do their job right in the first place. I was already upset for having to wait over thirty minutes to get my prescription (although it was supposed to only take 10 mins...) when I was initially there and having to walk out empty handed. After returning back to the pharmacy after three hours, I was told to wait another 15-20mins for them to process a manufacturer's coupon for my medication. I asked why would it take so long to process a coupon, and showed my disagreement as I had already waited twenty minutes for someone to assist me during this second visit. Then the employee got upset at me and asked," So you want me to just drop everything and help you when I have phones ringing and other customers to help? I'm the only one here and I can't just do this for you when I have other things to do..." I told him that he didn't have the right to get upset at a customer and that these responsibilities seem to be his concern, not mine as I was also there to be assisted. I told him I didn't understand why he had to answer the phone calls first versus addressing a customer who was physically there. He told me that I didn't have a right to be mad and said, "You'll need to wait--do I make myself clear..." Urgh, by this time I decided it was time for me to head to a different CVS and drove off. Not only will my frustration end here, but I will take this to the manager--not sure how much it will help as it seems like he/she doesn't do anything to resolve all the poor reviews this store have received from so many customers in the area. Is Yelp like e-mail? Are you not supposed to compose your reviews in the heat of the moment while you're feeling angry and vengeful, and then fire them off without sleeping on it? Too bad, I'm doing it anyway. This pan isn't based on one experience, however, but years of abuse and neglect. I'm a glutton for punishment, I guess. That, and this piece is across the street from where I live. This location/pharmacy is super frustrating. Pharm techs who ignore you, never smile, mill about and never offer to help, blah blah blah, the usual. But the death blow for this pharmacy came when I dropped off a time-sensitive scrip on Monday, came to pick it up this afternoon (four days later), and the disinterested tech was like, "Oh yeah, we *faxed* your doctor and haven't heard back." Excuse me, one: what the hell is this "fax" thing you speak of, and why are you not using the phone? And two: if you didn't hear back, isn't it your job as the pharmacist to keep trying so I can have this (again, time sensitive) scrip in my hot little hands on time?? "This medicine is time sensitive," I say to the pharmacist, and she says, "Yeah, I know." Blank stare. Five people behind the counter at all times it seems, and not one of them doing his job apparently. Fine, I will continue to buy my Aquafresh and Pantene here, and I like that they are open 24/7 (Jelly Belly munchies hit at off times). But I'd like to take a torch to that pharmacy. read more

Easily the worst pharmacy I've ever been, with consistently ridiculously long wait times. I've tried periodically over the last 7 years and there is no improvement. If you have ever wanted to be treated as if you and the molecules of air surrounding you have the same worth, this is the place to go! Can you leave a 0 star rating? After two years, I have had it with this CVS. Simple convenience can't make up for incompetence. It is the worst location I have ever been to, not because it is unclean or anything like that, but because the management is atrociously bad and the staff are almost always checked-out and unhelpful. Everything takes longer than it should, and this store struggles with even the most basic things. Take printing a photo. They frequently struggle to find an order they just printed. Today was the last straw, though. I placed a "same day" order over a week ago. The machine was down, so they told me to come back for my larger prints "tomorrow." Stuff happens, that's alright, so I did--still down, and no apparent urgency to get it back up. Finally got a confirmation email and showed up today to pick them up, but they lost them! The staff member who was helping me spent five minutes going through the same print orders over and over as though the next time through they'll surely appear! (while a line built up and no other staff was called to take up the slack) Finally, he just stopped looking altogether and started ringing up someone else. I had to ask him whether they were lost and all he said was "they're not in the system." No effort to make it right, no manager, nothing. Now in fairness, the customers at this location are no picnic either. I've seen all manner of bizarre things that slow down the whole operation--people trying to haggle over prices, folks insisting that expired coupons are still valid, and even trying to return non-CVS merchandise. Today, the people behind me in line were calling the guy who was looking for my pictures offensive names because they were left waiting--completely unnecessary behavior! It just reinforces my main question: Where's the manager? He/she should be intervening on behalf of employees in these situations, and generally preventing them by make sure things operate efficiently and that staff are providing good customer service. What can I say? I wouldn't want to work there, and I certainly won't shop there ever again. read more

There are those occasions when you are absolutely convinced you are going to die and you really need those smiling faces you see in the commercials to be what greets you at the pharmacy. For the most part, that is what I've found in the folks at this CVS pharmacy. This is my "local" CVS and my doctor can electronically send the Rx straight to them. As far as a CVS goes, eh its a CVS of decent size and you can find most anything you would look for at a medium-sized drug store. They do have a bit larger section of seasonal items than some of the other CVS around and when they put the stuff on end-of-season clearance you can get some good deal. But I mostly come here because the pharmacy is open 24/7. Sure they do get swamped at times, but the night I had a severe allergic reaction to an antibiotic, the pharmacist gave my Rx for cream to deal with the "excruciating itchies" a priority and I was in and out pretty quick. Same with most any other time I've shown up in serious desperate need of whatever I was there to get. The rest of the time I simply call ahead and see if my Rx is ready/refilled and use the drive thru window to pick it up or pop in. The worst wait I ever had here was 1/2 hr and that was a time they were busy and I wasn't in need of being a priority. Also nice to have it close by to get thing refilled at the last minute before heading out of town on a trip. read more

I am giving them a 1 star, because a -5 stars is what they really deserve. The 24 hr pharmacy is the worst I have been. Bad experience. My husband had an emergency prescription, he was really sick with the flu and needed it urgently. It took 2.5 hours to filled the prescription. Employees ignored him when he asked about the prescriptions, the employees will say, just 5 more minutes, when it was not even been worked on. They should have professional individuals and taking care of the ones really sick. Last time going here, bad customer service. read more

Underwent surgery in the morning. Doctor called in a pain killer to be filled. I tried multiple times to get a hold of a human to request a third party pick up my prescription. Was on hold for thirty minutes waiting to speak to a human and never got through (multiple attempts). I had to drive to CVS with my boyfriend to pick up the prescription. When I arrived there was only one chair for waiting, which was being used for a family receiving vaccines. Completely unacceptable to force a surgical patient into the store to fill a prescription and have zero accommodations to prevent further injury or stress. read more

Service it's average. However I didn't like the way they handle one of my baby's prescription. For some reason they put in their system that this prescription was ready to pick up. I went 3 times after they told me it was ready and kept asking me to try tomorrow. When I tried calling another CVS to see if they had the prescription my son really needed. They were not able to see it because Duke St Pharmacy put it as it was ready when it wasn't. Nobody was able to helped me with this. Went to pick up scripts for my mom they said they didn't have any - after telling them they should be in the system a gentlemen told me it would be two hrs. Come back two hrs later and they didn't fill one of the scripts Bc "insurance won't cover it" - when I ask how much it is without insurance they tell me it's ELEVEN DOLLARS and it will be thirty more minutes to fill. I showed up today at 10am and was told the machine was broken and they had no idea when they would be ready. My compliments to Pauline and the unnamed pharmacist on duty tonight, around 6:15 pm. The power had gone out in the area which forced the CVS to wait until its system rebooted. Despite that, both Pauline and the pharmacist worked the telephones to try to find me the medication that I needed at another store. I would give them five stars, but this particular CVS store did not have that medication in stock. This is no fault of the pharmacist or Pauline. I've gone to this CVS before, and it doesn't seem to keep stocked up very well. But at least the folks on the front lines know what to do! Many thanks to them. read more

First the deny you have the prescription. So you call the doctors office who says they sent out . I am sure they are just too busy to care. So you go back and say I called the office and they said was in and the tech is like oh it's here and it will be at least 45 minutes. Get you scripts elsewhere this place does not care. read more

Hours and location are convenient, store is clean and selection is good, but it's next to impossible to get anyone to answer the phone in the pharmacy. Go in person and you might have to wait for help until the techs finish their 5-minute conversation about whose turn it is to go on break. The techs seem completely uninterested in helping customers and they move at the same speed (slow) no matter how long the line is. The computer / register system is ridiculously slow so it takes forever to check out. There's literally a 1-2 minute delay before it will accept your signature for your meds, then another 1-2 minute delay before it accepts your credit card and then another 1-2 minute delay before you can sign the signature pad for your credit card. So 6 minutes? No big deal -- except when you're the fifth or sixth person in line. My other frustration is that they never have registers open at the front of the store, only self checkers. Sometimes there's a long line for the self-check registers, and instead of opening up a register to clear the line they have an employee stand next to there to direct people to self-checkouts as they become free (as if the people in line can't that for themselves.) It's a mystery why they don't have this employee check people out herself at a regular register instead. Switching to Rite Aid down the street. read more

The new layout is a little weird but there seems to be more offered now which is a good thing. The staff is okay, not great but not bad. Parking is available, though the lot is an accident waiting to happen. Usually I go to Harris Teeter if I'm looking for something but if I can't find it, then this CVS is my next choice. read more

Irresponsible. It took them FOUR hours to fill my daughters flu and pain medication AFTER THEY LOST HER PRESCRIPTION. First they tried to tell me that they didn't have any records of her prescription, even though I personally walked in and handed them the prescription. After an hour and a half of waiting, I called the pharmacy to check the status of her medicine(since I've never had to wait longer than 45-60 minutes at any cvs pharmacy)and i was put on hold for 30 minutes, just to be told they didn't have anything. It took them about 15/20 minutes to find her prescription and asked me to give them another hour to get it ready(meanwhile my 13 month old is crying in pain with a high fever) it took them 2 and a half more hours to fill her prescription. When i get there, the pick up line took 30 minutes to get to the counter, and of course no manager on duty. I don't understand how a well known pharmacy could possibly loose a prescription. I moved in Alexandria and TRANSFERRED my prescriptions from another local CVS. My insurance information no longer shows up in their system when I go to get my medication refilled. I have refills, but now at full price. Pharmacy staff repeat that there is no insurance information on file. The last store had it! I never had a problem before with a different CVS. They always filed with my insurance. Is this store lacking training? Do they need computers? Can I trust them? Will I go back? read more

Don't go here. They always mess up my Rx. They are rude sometimes. They don't tell you what's going on with your Rx. A few days ago, my doctor called my Rx into the wrong CVS. I went in to this one thinking that they would be there. I was told they were at another location. I said ok, the doctor must still have the old CVS on file since I moved recently, can you do them here? She said yes, but it'll be about 30 minutes. I said no worries, I'll just come back tomorrow. Ok...fast forward to tonight, three days later. I came in asking for my Rxs. The guy said "Actually you're at the wrong CVS" and I said "Actually, I came in here a couple days ago and asked to have them filled here. That girl right there (standing next to him) said she did it." Then they looked at each other like deer in headlights and he said "we'll get it now, just take a seat" (no "sorry there must have been a mix-up or anything) Ok, it's 10:30 at night, and there is only one other person standing in the place. Shouldn't have taken too long. Well, after about 15 minutes of waiting, the girl (who screwed it up in the first place) calls me over to ask what medicines I needed. I refrained from being angry still, somehow, and told her which ones. Apparently she was trying to fill three of the same Rx, and was confused. So, I wait another 20 minutes...no one at any point had said how long it would take, or apologized that they clearly had messed up. When they called me up, after 40 minutes, another guy (third one I've talked to this night) tells me that they only have 2 of my three meds. They don't carry the other one. He says he won't get it until Thursday. I was like of course. This is ridiculous. I said just give me the two. Then I asked "well, does the other location have it, since they filled it there first?" He said "um, I don't know, I could call them and ask...do you know if they are open?" I said "I'LL call them." and paid and left. Not once did anyone apologize for screwing up. I've worked in customer service for 5+ years and dealt with the worst of the worst, and I have never been so flippant and uncaring, especially when it was me or a co-worker at fault! And I've been in restaurants and had to cut off people and listen to people say disgusting things about my body...still was more cordial to them that these people were to me. I was nice to the workers at CVS too, only voicing my frustration saying "this is ridiculous" at the end when paying. I called the other location, and they had it, as I figured they would. I've been to this CVS twice now and for two very different reasons. The important think to know is that it has a 24-hour pharmacy. While several other CVS's in the area are open 24-hours, not all have 24-hour pharmacies. This one does. As you can guess, that's why I was there the first time. I have been calling the store for over an hour trying to get ahold of someone but their phone system is so screwed up you cant transfer to the pharmacy or the front desk. It says " this mailbox is unavailable". What a joke. My prescription is in here and I cant even check on it. God forbid you have a prescription in here and you listen to the computer tell you" it will be ready by 5pm" then you drive all the way up there only to find out they havent even started filling it bc of insurance, or out of stock, or whatever and they tell you to come back another day. I cannot rate this location as zero stars, so a one star it shall be. Where to begin? The drive-thru pick-up lane for 'scripts takes *forever* (waited last night for 15 minutes for not a soul to come to the window or acknowledge my presence on the mic before driving away) however, going inside and/or pre-paying does not save any time either. Staff call and leave messages on my phone relentlessly about picking up my 'scipts or 'they will be put back,' but then do not answer the phone when I return their call (just now I had to call the front staff to ask them to tell the pharmacy staff to pick up the phone after being on hold for 10 minutes with not as much as a courtesy "hey, we will be right with you."). I inquired about have my 'scipts sent to me because of staff incompetence and utter lack of customer service only to be told of a $5 fee - psht, last straw and adios! I am taking my 'scipts elsewhere, and I sure hope that this review will help anyone from wasting even one second of their time with this dreadful place that calls itself a pharmacy. The pharmacy SUCKS. Maybe all CVS pharmacies are terrible; this one definitely is. Have never waited less than 20 minutes for a simple pickup, and it takes a lot longer than that if they've made a mistake, which they usually have. If you're on more than one prescription, inevitably they've filled the wrong one when you go to pick up, that sort of thing. Replying to the barrage of CVS texts about synching prescriptions, etc. only seems to confuse their systems more. read more
