Also, pretty good sized portion, could possibly be stretched across two meals if you're not super hungry. Picadillo Meal: So many great spices in this minced beef dish. Nice green onion slices too. Goes perfectly with the white rice. Simple, yet hearty. Lots of sweet plantains too, if you choose that as a side. Pot Roast Meal: This is pretty hearty! The beef chunks were dense and meaty. There was a very nice stew sauce that was generously doled out with the meat and over the rice. I like how there were some red beans today, nice and soupy, to go over the rice. And lots of plantains. Pork Meal: I arrived a little early (11:30am or so) and saw a fresh roasted pork leg! I was honored to be the first person to break into that lechon. Paired with fried rice and yucca it was such an amazing meal. Can't believe it was just $10.99 and it was like the portion of two meals. Pan de Bono: Cheesy bread that is buttery and chewy. The perfect morning snack. Tequeño: Ugh, probably the worst tequeño I had. Not much cheese and the outer shell was hard and kinda stale.

First a visit for sunglasses. There are any number of shops on Collins where you can buy sunglasses but I found my favorite pair here for a cool $20. I also picked up some mouthwash and antacid. Then, after trying to read a book at the beach, I realized that with my new contact prescription I needed my first pair of reading glasses (RIP my youth) so I stopped back in to check out their selection. Not bad! I got a cute pair of Foster Grants. After a day at the beach I got a little pink and needed some aloe. Popped back in for that. Each time I browsed a bit. Picked up some make up during my aloe trip, as well, thanks to their dedicated beauty area. The shop itself is a bit dingy, though the products are in good shape. It's also huge! With a bit of grab and go food available alongside snacks and even some booze. Also it's 24 hours which is a bonus! I definitely could have found most of the things I picked up cheaper if I had remembered to grab them before getting to my hotel but alas, my memory did not cooperate. So I had to take the L and the tourist upcharge. But luckily I got everything I needed!

They have luggage, groceries, produce, clothing, hats, and so much more. They know their market and audience and cater to them. The prices are incredibly inflated, but I suppose that is because you get a one-stop shop. If your time is money, you will save time and thus money by getting everything you might need here. The checkout lines moved smoothly, the cashier was friendly, and I was able to redeem some Walgreens cash I had for my small chips and toy purchase.

A very reliable choice if you're short on time. Cuban Breakfast: A really hearty way to start the day. I love the big blocks of crisped squeaky cheese. The hot dog like sausages were fun too. The plantains and refried black beans made it feel especially Cuban. And then nice eggs, because breakfast. Beef Meal: It felt ropa vieja adjacent with the slow cooked shredded beef and peppers and onions. Though it wasn't as bright without the different types of peppers. I got mine with moros, black beans and rice mixed together. The lady also gave me some gravy, from the beef stew, on top of the rice. I chose a side of macaroni salad. It was such a delicious lunch and (leftover) dinner! The beef itself was packed with flavor and so tender. Beef Stew: More like pot roast than the other stringy beef meal. Large chunks of beef that were dense and delicious! It came with this yellow rice that had pork, shrimp and veggies. Kinda like stir fried rice, but I don't think it was stir fried. Delicious though! And, of course, got the yummy macaroni salad again.

I love the fact that it's an unapologetic bootleg Latin Popeye's (down to the color scheme, sides and preparation). I don't love the fact that on more than a couple occasions, MBPD have cut their way through the line to grab whatever they want (and leave) while paying customers' orders are delayed and interrupted. But, more often than not, I love what I see and eat here. In addition to being a fast food joint, it's also a convenience store. I couldn't tell you anything about it because I've never patronized it in that sense. BUT, if you're looking for a 3 (or, 5; what? I'm a growing boy) piece dark with a (2) honey biscuit(s), red beans & rice, and mashed potatoes and gravy served the way you're used to eating in Louisiana and/or Texas at Beyonce's favorite fast food chain... well, your prayers have been answered. The service is usually curt but professional but what you get can vary with the person ringing you up. At times I've been invited to take a cold beverage from the cooler with my purchase. At other times, I've been given my change and a 'gtfu' stare/'smile.' It's not such a big deal to me, seeing as I ALWAYS get this food to go and I've found that beer almost always beats soda but if such things matter to you, I thought I'd mention it.

If you are looking for fried chicken in South Beach, this is the spot. I added this business to…read moreYelp because when I was trying to locate a good fried chicken place in SoBe, yelp had nothing. If you try to search for this place online, its as if the South Beach location does not exist. But I promise you, that as of 12-17-12 it is there and tasty. I am not sure why this place does not show up in google or on any maps, but it is always busy so maybe they just don't need any more advertising. This place is a franchise and this one is located within a little convenience store. Its on Washington near 14th on the east side of the street. It has a 6 foot tall chicken statue inthe doorway so it is kind of hard to miss. It is take-out only. No tables, no waitress, no delivery. If you are craving cheap, good fried chicken, this is best place in South Beach. Sometimes they screw up the order, after all, this is Miami. Just double check your order before you leave as they are always willing to correct any mistakes they made. Menu is just fried chicken, potatoes and biscuits. Maybe there is another vegetable option, but I've never ordered it.
