I came into this store on a whim as I walked from Dunkin' to this location (originally hoping to stop at Hannaford nearby instead). Although I still saw the gas pumps out front, my first need was solved in your selection of Ham submarine sandwiches (in the deli case nearest the registers) - something not all Stewarts Shops have - and a bottle of Poland Spring water to drink (23.7 oz sports top) on my walk back later that day (only to spot my ride meeting me near the former location of the Bagel Place/car shop not very far from your shop). I had ideas that day to pick up a bottle of Pure Leaf Tea&Lemonade but decided it wasn't something I needed and put that item back. But during this experience, I noticed a trickle of folks coming in and out. Still, very few stayed in for very long, and by the end of my quick visit for a quick stop for a few items (even without my bags), I felt out of place and was hoping for more questions about my visit. I haven't been coming in many times now, because my car is not working and I'm in a catch-22, and walking is just too far at about 2 miles on foot.

But I was also budgeting to a point where I was only stricken with an EBT card (food stamp/SNAP card). I craved sandwiches with meat (ham and cheese are my faves), but most of these sandwiches EBT won't pay for (they don't take them for being "prepackaged") and when I found that you had sandwiches, I was almost hooked - but that's when I saw the price. I was carrying only about $6 in cash and when I spotted even the cheapest sandwich at close to $7, I had to turn away. (Their bagels (without peanut butter or similar) were there, but those were a lot less than what I'd get for cheaper at your competitor, so had to forego those completely.) However, this place also has some variations of stuff I couldn't get at your competitor. I found bags of cookies (chewy chocolate chips of the brand name) on your shelves and stuff I couldn't find elsewhere - some more prominently displayed than others. However, there were things that even the competitor had that I had to get today because I'm getting tired of getting the same stuff there continuously and had to be spontaneous. However, the rest of the transaction was okay. I was the only customer in the store for most of my transaction, and the employee who checked me out was rather nice. He allowed me to place my goods on the counter and allowed me to check out the sandwich corner. He waited until I got back to pay before he started ringing me up - and something I valued: patience. This purchase was also my first purchase where I entered my Mobil Rewards number, something I started in 2021 and hadn't used yet. I was surprised that I even remembered I had one, but he never asked if I was a member. Sorry, if my presence bothered you. This place no longer is open 24-7, based on other factors, but this place surely makes itself known at the corner of Routes 9 (US) and 199 (NY). I know several people who would rather pick up goods here and without a doubt have no trouble. It's a fact that this lot is always full, but when coming from a mile north and no car, I had to walk it today. However, I can only come in every so often.

The facility is well-maintained; with the usual selection of food and sundries one expects to find in an establishment such as this. The staff person was friendly and attentive. I was gonna do the Steak and Bacon Melty thing, but then I saw the corned beef and pastrami (1/4 pound of each) on marble rye with Swiss, deli mustard, mayo, tomato, and onion. I asked for it with the meat heated up, which they did on the griddle. The meat was sliced thin and tender. The combination of flavors was beautiful, and I was glad I trusted their idea (tomato and onion seem kind of strange when put with pastrami and corned beef - but you can't argue with results. Serendipity stop. I thought I was taking one crosscut through to another road. I lucked into the wrong crosscut. It was amazing!

What a Pig Sty! All of the trash containers near the gas pumps were overstuffed and overflowing…read more There was trash strewn along the walk in front of the store. The gas pumps indicated that customers had to pay inside rather than at the pump. I side was one older man cashier and two people working the sandwich counter. I asked the older man whether they were understaffed and told him about the garbage problems. He barely responded.

No special sign to announce that EGG NOG would now be right next to the milk and cream. The manager seemed to understand what had happened. NOT MARCIA! Ms. Marcia began by interrogating me by the coffee pots, and wouldn't let up. Still chastising and scolding me by the cash register as she rang up my family's other purchases. What a NASTY surprise to encounter this B! Think it through, Marcia dear. You are an EMPLOYEE not my mother or boss, and should deliver service if not with a smile, at least not with the rancid attitude you displayed to me in front of my sons. Cute little Mexican grocery/convenience store in Rhinebeck…read more They have a small deli and a few shelves carrying Mexican goods like tostadas, horchata concentrate, spices, hot chocolate, and Jarritos sodas. I was impressed with their large selection of Mexican chiles. A lot of the food seemed to originate from Oaxaca, so I'm guessing that the owners are from there and that the shop tailors to a select few Oaxacan immigrant families in Rhinebeck. It's a great place to get ingredients for cooking Mexican food without having to go all the way to Kingston, Poughkeepsie or even Albany, and the prices are very cheap. It was only around 11.95 for two sodas, two bulbs of garlic, 25 tostadas, and some snacks. It is a little messy but that is characteristic of family-owned businesses like this, so it really isn't that much of a problem. Definitely coming back again.
