Twas a brisk Spring morning.. I was a new rider in search of my first helmet. I had been searching the interwebs for direction and meaning in this new grand world, but needed a guiding hand to help me across the great fjord of motorcycle knowledge.. especially with such an important and costly purchase as a helmet. After some quick searching I found a Cycle Gear just up the road from me, and decided to enlist some human interaction.. Enter Imir. To say he was helpful would be a phrase so understated that I feel retribution would surely be necessary. He was outstanding and went above and beyond to make sure I got exactly what I wanted AND that I needed. We tried on helmets until we got it completely right.. him asking me the right questions the whole way. In September I purchased a new Sedici Helmet with built-in Sena Bluetooth. I noticed recently the battery life was getting shorter & shorter. I would charge it overnight (8+ hours) & the blue light would be on, indicating a full charge. I would turn it on & within 10 minutes, I would get the " Battery Low warning" & it would shut off. I took it to Cycle Gear in Madison & spoke with Imir. He checked it out & determined that the battery was bad. Imir provided great customer service. read more

Pay no attention to the one star reviews. Clearly just entitled people who don't ask for help, and then blame it on the store. Everyone that works there is super chill, and they aren't trying to be pushy salesmen. A lot of people go to cyclegear just to window shop anyway. So they usually stick to the good ole, "let us know if you need help with anything" when you walk in. If you do ask for help, these guys are great. Both gentlemen working there were very hands on, knowledgeable, and helpful. Helped me out this morning with warranty on a pair of gloves, and a return for a jacket I ordered on line. They had the jacket in the size I needed in stock as well. And they made sure I had everything I needed before I left. Zero complaints. The new location is great too! Lots of inventory. read more

I wouldn't go so far as to say I would give zero stars, because one gentleman was helpful during my trip...but sheesh. First of all, I went into the shop before ordering online to see if they had any well-fitted, not-pink/non-heavily-branded riding gear. They had a lot of simple, fairly-unisex jackets online (plus that isn't a ridiculous request), so why not? The employee there (can't remember his name, but I wish I could. He had a goatee and glasses) wasn't the nicest. I told him what I was looking for and he left me alone and didn't offer any help whatsoever. I didn't find much anyway, so I left and ordered a jacket from Cycle Gear's online store. The jacket ended up fitting me, but I wanted to go a size up to accommodate a base layer during colder seasons, so I called the store ahead of time and asked if I could exchange in store and I could order another online (because you have to pay return shipping to Cycle Gear which is total BS since the gear is heavy since its armored). I worked in retail, so I know sometimes this doesn't work out. The guy who I saw on my first trip answered and told me over the phone that I could come in and it wouldn't be an issue. So I go in (and I live 40 minutes away) and he greets me with a SUPER snide attitude by saying "oh, YOU'RE back...*notes that I have my jacket with me* oh and YOU'RE the one who wants to return stuff?" and just walks away. Another guy was trying to help me, but didn't understand the protocol for how to return something from online in the store and had no help from the rude gentleman. Probably ten to twenty minutes go by, and the rude guy comes back, peers over the computer and the nice gentleman working on my order, and says to me, "are you being a retail nightmare?" Mind you, HE was the one who told me to come in and do this in the first place! So then I felt stupid, sorry for being there and causing this, and angry at this guy for being a total jerk. The guy helping me ended up ordering a jacket where I had to come into the store and I could exchange it a few days later when it came in instead of shipping it to my house. I already felt like I was being a nuisance, so I said okay and left. I got a phone call a few days later saying my jacket was in, so I drove back and got out of my car, and lo-and-behold--that super rude guy was walking in at the same time as I was. He held the door for me and I said hi, and he didn't say anything. Rather, he gave me a super snotty look and ignored me and walked right to the back of the store. I then waited for 40 minutes to return my jacket. I understand that what they did was nice because then I didn't have to pay return shipping, but man that guy was a jerk. Never going back. read more

Walked in to two guys standing at the counter, playing on their phones. Guy on the right looks right at us and goes right back to playing on his phone. Guy in the left at least says "hello." Guy on the left ended up walking past us twice and never once asked if we needed help. Not what I expected from Cycle Gear, especially since they have great service when I call their main customer service department. I purposefully did not purchase from the local store because of their crappy service. read more

This is a really nice little shop, even though I drove all the way out there because Arai had them listed as a dealer, yet they don't stock any Arai helmets...grrrr. They did have a bigger helmet selection than almost all other places though, and quite a few Shoei's. The owner is very smart, like me, and rides a VFR, and Stacey was very, very helpful. Great people. Very helpful when I went in to look for a new set of MX goggles. They carry a wide range of accessories, and don't seem to be settled into catering to one particular subset of riders. Their house branded MX jerseys are pretty good quality for the price, and they're not overly decorated, which is a really good thing for those of us that prefer not to be too flashy. Everyone I spoke to seemed really knowledgeable and polite, and it didn't take long for them to notice when I walked in that I had a few questions. Will be back to make a couple returns today, hopefully, and will check out some new stuff. read more

Don't go there if you want any service or help of any kind. We went in and none of the guys ever acknowledged us or asked to help us. We were obviously needing help. So after trying to help ourselves and failed we just left. SAD. We were going to purchase 2 helmets and son riding gear. read more
