This place is spectacular! Yes it's pricey but I would say it's one of those rare places where you really see what you're paying for. It's immaculate, you get freshly cleaned shoes and towels before every ride, ice cold AC in the room, your own water bottle, attentive owner, snacks afterward, AMAZING instructors, great music, lockers, impeccable showers and toiletries. As for the class--tough but well paced regardless of your experience level. Sarah is really an inspiring and motivating instructor. There is something different every day so it's hard to get bored. And the races are a really fun way to challenge yourself. The music's loud enough that you can sing along with nobody noticing and the room is dark enough that there's no need to feel self conscious. Cyclebar - can you please, please, please, use the 'clean' version of songs that tend to have profanity. Every other gym can do it - i urge you to do the same. Its UNBELIEVABLY uncomfortable as a person of color, and as a woman, to have to sit in a room full of white people/men, and hear the 'n' word every 2 seconds. Or bitch this, hoe that. Apparently this place is under new ownership as of yesterday (7/16/2018) so make of that what you will. My experience was so so. I showed up early and Alex and Erin were helpful in getting me set up with my locker and my bike. I had been to a CycleBar once in NJ so I sort of new the drill already. The studio is clean and has lots of great amenities (showers, lockers, etc.) and the class was good, on par with other cycling classes I have been to. The part that wasn't so great was checking out (they hold on to your driver's license during the class if you are new to the studio). Michael (possibly the new owner?) was pushing memberships on my friend and I. That model doesn't work for me - I like using several different studios for different types of workouts. When I asked about class packages and/or new rider specials (which as of this morning were still listed on their website, though they are no longer), I basically got a response that sounded like, "If you don't want to buy a membership, than we are not interested in your money." Its your business to run and if the membership revenue model is the one you want to use, great. That's your prerogative. However, the FU attitude towards people who are not interested in buying a membership is not a way to build your reputation in what is a fairly competitive fitness market. The same message could have been communicated in a far more customer friendly way. So if you want to join a cycling studio as a member, then this may be the place for you. But if not, its seems your money is no good here. read more

My niece and I wanted to do a cycle class to begin a great birthday. We checked the website the day before and called 20 minutes before we went. We were told all we needed to do for a drop in class for a first time was arrive 15 minutes early. We arrived early and were refused entry because we didn't schedule an appointment the day prior to get an orientation. We have both done cycle classes at other gyms before and were following the rules posted on the website but were still refused entry. Not only is the price for drop in high - $28 - but the rules are ambiguous and the staff at the front desk rude. Don't bother. read more

This is a great place to get some cardio into your workouts! Your first visit: The staff are very welcoming and give you a tour of the studio to explain where everything is and how everything works. As soon as you step into the studio, you sign yourself in on one of the iPads and pick up a pair of shoes in your size from the cubbies just below. Then you go to the lockers to put away your things. The staff write a cute welcome note on the door of the locker, which contains a hand-written note welcoming you to the studio and a free water bottle. The studio is very clean and runs very smoothly. The staff is very friendly! Plentiful Amenities: Water fountains (chilled and room-temp) + bananas + lockers + cycle shoes (free to use!) + towels + showers + lotion The workout: Honestly, my favorite thing about the classes is that the entire class goes to the beat of the music. It just helps to keep me going because I like pedaling to a rhythm, so I get a much better workout. The music selection is great, and the instructors always switch up the pace so it never gets boring. Sometimes they introduce an upper body workout with the bars that are located at each bike. Depending on what type of class you take, you can opt to put your stats on the tv screens at the front of the class. Unlike SoulCycle, these bikes can be turned on to show power, rpm, resistance, etc. and sometimes the instructors will turn on the screen to have the students "race" each other for a short sprint (~20-30 seconds). It's hard, but it's so much fun! For these classes, you also get an email afterwards with your stats (can also be seen through your CycleBar account online). The instructors are all fun and really motivating (my favorite was Sarah). Parking: Is limited. So get here early to find street parking! I always try to arrive in the area at least 20 minutes before class starts. This gives me time to find parking, walk over, and put my stuff away in the locker before I climb onto the bike and adjust the settings to my liking. Note: As of today (7/16/2018), the studio is under new ownership, so there may be some changes on the horizon. read more

When I tried cycling at CycleBar for the first time a year and a half ago, I had no idea that I would be joining an incredible community. All of the instructors are super friendly and care about how I am doing both personally and athletically. Every class is a challenge, and it never gets boring! I leave each class drenched in sweat feeling positive about my experience. I can't forget about the super friendly and responsive front desk staff as well. I am hooked to the community and the fabulous workout. To make it even better, I'm a stronger and faster runner from cross training at CycleBar. I recommend that everyone gives it a shot! I've tried to cancel my cyclebar membership multiple times over the last 3 months and continue to be charged a monthly fee. The Berkeley customer service is entirely unresponsive. CycleBar is my favorite spin studio. It's so friendly, professional and is an all round workout. I started going when it first opened. The team there are always so welcoming and they make an effort to remember everyone's name. The studio is laid out well, quality bikes. If you don't want your name on the leaderboard, you can easily request online not to be added. At the end, you are sent your performance statistics for the class (private info, no one else sees). All instructors are great and a shout out to Vicki for the best classes! Always fun music and love the themed rides. read more

I love CycleBar. If you are a first timer, they give you a free water bottle. They also provide cycling shoes for FREE. The staff is great and so are the instructors. I really like that they do some friendly competition, but also encourage you to go at your own pace. And I really like that they have the weight bars instead of free weights or exercise bands. I've been going to CycleBar for about four months now and I love it. My favorite instructors are Vicki and Laura, but I've also been to classes with every other instructor and you'll get a great workout with everyone. If you're new, be sure to let the instructor or staff know so they can help you set up your bike! They are all super helpful if you ask! I'd say this is a better workout than soulcycle but because you are paying attention to a screen for your RPM/resistance, it's less of a meditative experience (unless you do Vicki's connect class). read more

CycleBar is a top-notch cycling experience and far exceeds any cycle class I've attended at my gym (or other boutique cycling spots). I've worked out at multiple locations and with several instructors, and across the board, CycleBar offers an incredible cycling experience with streamlined and accommodating facilities. CycleBar makes your experience so easy, as they offer use of free cycling shoes, plentiful lockers, and well-stocked necessities (including a choice between chilled and RT water, bananas, and water bottles for first-time attendees). Their locker room is clean and offers towels, a hair dryer, and anything else you might have forgotten. The classes themselves are led by accessible and encouraging instructors who explain exactly what's happening, resulting in a class that's challenging for experienced and beginning cyclists alike. I have always felt motivated to push myself without feeling as though I failed at what the instructor asked (which is often the case at other cycle studios). Stats are displayed on your bike and rankings can be shown to the class (you can opt out of this ranking system if you'd like your stats to remain private) - I really appreciate how motivating this is, especially when the instructors offer in-class races. The other staff are quite helpful, offering assistance with clipping in and adjusting your bike pre-class. I've knocked off one star as the price is just too high for me to participate often, but overall, CycleBar is a five-star experience! read more

What a fabulous new spin studio. The best thing about this place is when you walk in and are getting lockers, set up on a bike, etc. you feel welcome. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Note that cyclebar does not feel exclusive like soulcylce can to some. Facilities very clean and has all the extras you will need. Free loaner shoes, well equipped showers, towels, lockers and even hairbands in the bathroom in case you forgot one. Did I mention free cyclebar water bottles too?! The classes are challenging and fun. I love a workout where you listen to fun music, sweat, feel like you are working hard, but still enjoy it! That's what cyclebar is. I've taken three different instructors all who have been great! Highly recommend this place. read more

Loved my class here! I have taken 2 classes here and loved both my instructors, although I forgot their names. It's a great studio with nice amenities. They provide bananas, shoes, towels, filtered water, and even happy hour on some days! Very high energy, and instructors really push you. They have your stats on the TV screen (if you choose to), but they only show your stats 1-2 times so that it's not the only thing you focus on. CycleBar is great! I highly recommend it if you are into cycling or looking for a workout that will push you hard! I attended one of CycleBar's grand opening events hosted for Yelp Elite! First off, what an awesome way to kickstart the new Yelp year and get those New Year's Resolutions checked off! I've also been a fan of cross training between cardio and strength training, the latter being especially important for women to strengthen bones and increase your basal metabolic rate by building muscle. Cardio just doesn't cut it! That's what I love about CycleBar. Although it is a cardio spin class, they incorporate a decent amount of strength training on the bike with weight bars. Furthermore, they REALLY know how to motivate people to push past the burning point, which is how we strengthen our muscles. I love how each bike has your personal stats displayed and is paired with the class's stats. When I went to my first session, they motivated us to push harder to beat our own record, our peer's records, and even introduced a "little competition" between males/females, and among the different rows. To say the least, it worked!! I've been to SoulCycle a few times in LA and Palo Alto, but the energy at CycleBar has definitely been the best. I don't feel like I've being shouted at, and the room is kept at a good temperature. They have the fans and AC on to help us cool down, which is important in helping us push harder. SoulCycle never cools their rooms because their warm rooms make you sweat more, giving you the "false impression" that you are getting an awesome workout. The other thing I love about CycleBar? That they don't charge you for every itty bitty item even though you're paying a decent amount for each class! I love that they provide shoes, whereas SoulCyle charges $7 to rent shoes each time. I also love their water bottles and their water filling stations, which has water with different temperatures. Overall, I had an awesome experience. The owners are wonderful, genuine people who want everyone to have a great workout. I look forward to coming back soon! If you haven't tried spinning before, CycleBar is a great one to start off with. It's not pretentious as some other elite spinning studios and the instructors are really down to earth. The big plus for newbies are the rpm, and power stats displayed on each bike, so you can track your own progress! Love it! read more

Came here because my job had a special day for all employee to cycle for one free class. I feel like having a great smile and a warm personality is a requirement to work here. Everyone I interacted with was amazing! They provided water bottles, bananas and lockers to place your items. There is only one cycle room, which has over 25 stationary bikes. I really enjoyed our spin class, although it reminded me I gotta get back into this fitness game. Our instructor was very motivating and gentle at the same time, he had an encouraging way of leading class that made you want to push harder. Took a class with Sandi - they have a free first class promo right now, so literally you have nothing to lose by trying it out. First, the space is amazing - easily one of the nicest spin studios I've ever been to. It's spacious, tons of amenities, including stocked showers with towels, FREE water bottles with your choice of room temperature or chilled water, lockers, and the shoe rental is FREE. Also after their happy hour class they have free booze, and they always have out free fruit of some kind. (You see how many times I've used the word "free" in this review?!). They also have an outdoor patio for when the weather isn't as cold/rainy as it is now. And the actual cycling room itself is amazing - two big screens with music videos playing before class and then class stats during class, great music, state of the art bikes, clean, comfortable, i could go on. I legit don't have anything bad to say about this place - the owner and instructor could not have been more welcoming, and the class was top notch - and I say that having some Soul Cycle, the Dailey Method new spin class and spin at BodyRok, and Wheelhouse in SF. With the current deals you really should check it out - after my class I signed up for 3 more for $29 (!) that's like the cost of ONE SoulCycle class! So so happy to have this place in Berkeley, and I really hope it takes off and sticks around for a while. read more

This was my first cycling class and I thought I'd try it because of its free class promotion and I bike outside regularly. I was really impressed by everything. The staff was extremely welcoming and helpful, the facilities are very clean and modern, and the class itself was a lot of fun. It seems like a great mix of a group and individual work-out as obviously each person is on her/his own bicycle, but there a sense of class comradery. I also LOVED that this was not heated to a high temperature. I think it's much better for getting a real work-out instead of a sweat lodge meditation. This is a very welcome addition to Berkeley and I really hope they stick around! I'd encourage others to try it. read more

I checked in for my first class at CycleBar today and felt welcomed by the staff's friendliness and kindness. I was shown the facilities and amenities that the place offered. There were cycling shoes available, complimentary showers, water station (chilled water or room temperature), towels, and locker rooms. Once I got to the cycling room, one staff member helped me set up and adjust my bike. The instructor, Vicki, made sure to ask if there were any first timers and was very helpful and encouraging to everyone in the class. The class lasted an hour and it was very interactive. Vicki remembered our names and would cheer/compliment us when she saw us pushing ourselves and when she saw good form. In the middle of the class, there was a mini "weight session" and occasional pushups while on the bike; it's not just cycling! read more

Cycle bar is 10 times better than SoulCycle. It's a more laid-back environment and more inviting to new riders. I go once or twice a week and usually always end up take Sarah's class. Sarah's class is by far the best class I've been to at cycle bar. The music matches the mood in turn matches the ride. I always drag myself to go but then afterwards I realize why I go. Sarah is the reason why I enjoy cycling at CYCLEBAR. I am constantly promoting CYCLEBAR with my friends and family, most usually come. So if you want to get into cycling cycle bar is where you want to go. Side note: take Sarah class on Sundays. It a great end to a weekend and you get mimosas after. read more

I came across CycleBar from coming down University.. I have been looking for a way to get my exercise in because well we all need it! I started with new rider $10 class just to try it out! Applied online! Much easyer! My first day in they greeted me so so so nice.. everyone from the owners.. to the staff .. and of corse the instructors! The place smells clean and is clean! Small but very neat! Ladies bathroom is great! They also offer lockers and shower. And lets not forget the bananas! The only down side is finding parking.. so just give yourself an extra 15mins. They offer classes in the AM and PM.. ive had different instructors and they are all aswesome!!! They are next to a great sandwich place to you can get lunch! Lol i have nothing bad to say but great things! I will continue to come to this place because it makes me feel comfortable and happy! read more

All I can say is Wow. The experience at CycleBar was top notch - from the way we were greeted when we walked in the door to class itself ... I couldn't have asked for more. The studio is brand new, beautiful and clean. The staff is so friendly and helpful. They really went the extra mile to make sure I had a great experience. And the class was awesome. Such a great workout ... and so much fun. The sound system is awesome - there is even different lighting they use during the class. They show your stats on the big screen TVs (if you opt in for this), and there are even races (individual and group races). I have had nothing but nice things to say about this place, CycleBar Berkeley, up until now. Been spinning here since February and I liked it so much I even referred a few girlfriends to check the place out. Not too long ago I came across a Mother's Day special: 5 sessions for $0!! Too good to be true. Proceeded to check out AND even received an email confirmation $0 for 5 rides/sessions. Was super thrilled about the "special" that I mentioned it to my coworkers and girlfriends. I booked my first ride through my Mother's Day package and went in on a Thursday evening. Nothing out of the norm BUT I did notice a sign advertising a Mother's Day special 5 rides for $99 and I thought to myself how odd is this because I was able to book my package online for $0. Didn't think too much of it since no one at the front desk mentioned anything to me when I walked in. Eventually finished my ride/session for that evening and went home. Friday morning I received an email from Chuck, one of the owners of the Berkeley franchise saying sorry that there was an error on the website and since I completed 1 out of the 5 rides that I would need to call or go in person to pay the $99 and I replied to his email and informed him that I would be more than happy to pay for any future rides, but because it was the mistake of whoever posted the ad online, he would have to honour the 5 rides. He never responded to my email nor did I get a call from anyone at CycleBar. However, my coworker did receive a call from Heather, another owner for the Berkeley franchise, who seemed very upset and angry that my coworker wanted the company to honour the 5 rides for $0 that was stated on their website!! She even accused her of taking advantage of a small company. I am very disappointed that this happened. Today is Monday and I still have not heard back from anyone there. I was a loyal and frequent customer, but after this situation happened I will be taking my business elsewhere. I refuse to support a company who would treat their customers like they are doing something wrong because of their error. I am not one to YELP but I spoke highly of this company who at the end would rather lose a loyal customer than make them happy for THEIR error! read more

first time at a spin class and all the staff were very welcoming and accommodating. the free intro class was great to get familiar with the studio, the bike set up and the workout. i'm not athletic or in shape by any means but it wasn't an intimidating class and i didn't feel pressured to do more than i was comfortable with, yet it was motivating and a great workout. they have a lot of specials right now so it's a good time to get a bundle. read more

Unfortunately, I wish I could say I had a wonderful experience like everyone else. However, this was not the case. I live in the area and have had my eye on the place for a while and was really excited when my coworker told me how much she liked it. She told me to download the app because they had a Mother's Day special of 5 rides for $0 what a great way to celebrate Moms. We both thought what a great special that was so I proceeded to check out and even got a confirmation email confirming I would be charged $0 for 5 rides. The following day we both received emails saying sorry but there was a mistake on the website and in order to get the special we would have to pay $99. I then contacted Chuck who is one of the owners of the franchise. I informed him that I did receive an email however it was the mistake of whoever posted that price and I should not be penalized for the mistake. He said he would call me back but I had to follow up with him with an email asking him the status of my call. I then got a call from Heather another owner of the Berkeley franchise. She seemed very upset and angry that I wanted the company to honour the 5 free rides as stated on their website. She even accused me of taking advantage of a small company. She ended up giving me the 5 free rides but not without trying to guilt trip me when I did nothing to deserve that type of treatment. I know what's right and when a company makes a mistake as such in most cases you have to be compensated for THEIR error. I am really disappointed that this happened I am a local who loves to support local businesses and was looking forward to being a frequent customer. I can not get over the way I was treated so I decided not to use my 5 rides after all. I am not a person who complains but I had to share my experience. Heather could have just apologized for the companies error and honoured the 5 rides as advertised on their website and I would have been a loyal customer.
