I am not sure why there are so many negative reviews for Cynthia's dance. I purchased a Groupon to have my 2 year old daughter start ballet and tap at Cynthia's. When I spoke with her on the phone she was very pleasant and gave me great instructions on what was needed for class. We showed up for the first class and were greeted very kindly. There happened to be one other child and Cynthia indicated that two others were also supposed to be joining. When it reached just after the time of start of class and the others didn't come then she started class so our girls would not miss out on anything. During the class Cynthia was very patient and soft spoken with the girls. She would correct them when they were distracted and lead them very well. My daughter was able to listen well but the other girl was very distracted and Cynthia tried her best to get her to participate and listen. I felt that she handled the situation well and tried to give each girl equal time and attention. The lesson felt appropriate for their age and I was appreciative of Cynthia's patience and professional manner. My daughter was also very happy with the class. After leaving she said repeatedly that she wanted to go back to dance more. I look forward to continuing with dance lessons with Cynthia. read more

Enrolled my daughter for tap. Cynthia taught the kids a horrible dance routine and we were forced to pay for a recital costume and accessories. No, we couldn't opt out of performing. She doesn't discipline her favorites and allows those kids to disrupt the class. Please avoid this small, drab, old, crowded, so called 'dance studio.' You'll be better off in your garage or home learning from YouTube videos. read more

Update: You couldn't possibly recall who I am considering you did not attempt to interact with me the entire time. For your reference this occurred on December 18th, 2024. My daughters were so excited to get to go to dance for bring a friend day. When I went to pick them up, they were so upset that they were made to sit to the side and watch girls rehearse. Not sure what the point of bring a friend day was. Seems like a major missed opportunity to get more girls interested in attending dance classes there. Had the opposite effect for us. read more

I wish I could leave zero stars. My daughter did the Miss. Sacramento, Folsom, & Roseville pageant that she directs. First she claims that her pageant is a "scholarship pageant". My daughter, along with the other queens, never received a dime. She changed the pageant date a total of 4 times( Oct 15, Nov 12, Dec 3, and now its TBD) She promised a family a refund via email after the date was changed on them and now she is refusing to refund them. She lied about my daughters sponsor. She told one of her current queens via text message that an event was cancelled(too wet to attend) in order to exclude her from attending. The event was in fact not cancelled and Cynthia and 5 of her other queens were there. The way she purposely excluded a girl was awful. read more

I have had all 4 of my daughters in Cynthia's Dance Center for over 4 years. In this time they have acted and danced in multiple productions and have grown tremendously. Along with dance, Cynthia has taught them confidence, grace, teamwork, leadership, interview and presentation skills. Cynthia is always sweet, kind and respectful and is very talented and skilled in her art and teaching methods. I am so thankful for the experience that she has provided changing my girls from the once shy and timid to confident young women. read more

I am posting a review in response to the review from Brie. I was present for the class that she was referring to. I am a parent that has taken my 4 year old and 3 year old daughters to both Cynthia's Dance Center and gymnastics with Kori. My daughter's joined Cynthia's dance class when they were 2 and 3 years old through a Groupon. We were very pleased with the classes considering my daughters ages. My girls were too young and as a parent I RECOGNIZED IT and didnt continue with the courses. We decided to take gymnastics classes with Kori at Cynthias Dance Center. Again, I ran into the same problem, my girls were too young. Their attention span was too short and regardless of the instructor, they could not perform. I stopped those classes as well. A couple months ago, I attempted the gymnastics classes again with Kori at Cynthia's Dance Center. Kori runs gymnastics through Cynthia's Dance Center. She rents the space for certain classes to accommodate parents from all over the area. She also runs classes in Rancho Cordova and Sacramento as a convenience to parents and their time. I have found that Miss Kori is not only an exceptional coach but truly loves what she does and it shows when she works. The class that Brie was referring to was a free class for her. Ms Kori has given us half a dozen so that parents don't have to go out of pocket to try a class to see if it'll work. I don't even think that a review such as Brie's should be on here. She received something for free and wasn't satisfied. She shouldn't have the opportunity to speak poorly about the class especially considering she's writing about the wrong company. Brie's expectations of her child and the coach were far too high for her two-year-old. If your child cannot stand and wait her turn for 5 minutes (yes 5, not TEN as she says in her review) then your child is not ready for gymnastics. If your child cannot wait their turn then she is not ready for group classes. Also, if your child is still in diapers then it is considered courteous to change them when they have pooped. This mother allowed her child to run around the gymnastics class while other children were trying to learn with a poopy diaper and stunk up the entire class. She then had the audacity to go outside after class and talk poorly about the instructor. It is not Ms Kori fault that your child is too young to take a full-on gymnastics course. You do not see me on here creating a poor Yelp review for Miss Cynthia because my girls were too young for the class. I think it speaks volumes of the parent and their sky high expectations to write a review such as this. Also, if you take a look at the other reviews that she has written, her daughter is flourishing at tumble Buddies. Tumble buddies is intended for children of her age which is why she is doing so well. Please take time to think about the business impact you are making when you write so poorly about an instructor when it's actually your lack of knowledge and your sky high expectations of them to teach a child that is too young. read more

I am a past student of Cynthia's, from when I was a girl. When I saw she was still teaching dance I was elated to enroll my daughter in her class. My daughter started at just over 2 years old, she has been dancing at Cynthia's for about 7 months. I am amazed at my daughters improvement in coordination and learning dance routines. She looks forward to going and seeing her friends and Ms. Cynthia every Saturday morning. Cynthia allows parents to watch the girls and it is so fulfilling, they are adorable! Cynthia is a professional dance teacher and she takes her role in your child's life very seriously. She teaches manners, accountability as well as respect to the art of dance and to other dancers. It is not an easy job with small children that are easily distracted, I appreciate that she ensures classes stay on track. Dance is a commitment and costs money and I feel my daughter and I get back what I pay for due to Cynthia's expectations of the children in class. She doesn't tolerate children who do not show respect while in class and I applaud her for that. If you are looking for an experience that will enrich your child in more ways then just learning to dance, Cynthia can provide this to you and your child. There are costs for the lessons as well as the proper attire and dance performance costumes, this is an inevitable commitment you make when you sign up for a dance company. Cynthia's Dance Center - Performing Arts Near Me - Folsom, California

My daughter attended Cynthia's dance center for almost a year. My daughter did not enjoy going to class, because it was not a fun atmosphere. However, the seriousness of the classes did not pay off either! She barely learned a thing. We continued to take classes until the recital because we already pre-paid $80 for our costume and tights 6 months in advance. I should have followed my gut instinct, because when I first walked in, I wondered why there is no ballet bar in the studio. The children do not even learn the 5 ballet positions of their feet and arms after taking classes for a year. Even the more advanced children do not know how to do pirouettes without falling over, or even point their toes when they leap. They are not taught how to have good stage presence either. The recital was absolutely horrible, and a total rip-off since she makes it mandatory for each family to pay $55 just to attend the recital. I couldn't believe how many of the children were lost on the stage, and they did NOT know the routines during the recital. It was actually very uncomfortable to watch. I have witnessed Cynthia being sarcastic and impatient with the children, instead of learning how to engage them. The kids get bored during class because there is no variety. They just do the routine with music over and over, yet many of them still don't know the steps on their own because it is not taught with counts. We cancelled classes as soon as possible after the recital, and Cynthia would not give us our portraits that we paid for until we showed up at the studio. read more

I took my daughter to there by Groupon deal. It is owned and run by only one woman. The dance studio is very tiny and crowed place. Within 5 weeks, she gave me two invoices, one was the costume for a performance on June which cost $60, another was monthly bill with two tights fees of $15. I said we had bought tights from Target which was very affordable only $2 per pair. But she insists us to buy this so called high quality performance tights, even though my daughter said she was not ready to perform yet. I thought she made a lot of money out of selling overpriced stuff and events. read more

Saw a Groupon, called Cynthia to ask if she accommodated 2 yr olds. She said no but she'd create a flyer and see if she got any interest. She called me few days later and sent me a flyer with the free class. Her Folsom studio is terribly small. We got there 10 till 6 and they were still setting up. No greeting or introduction. She was very click only talking to the parents and kids who were returning students. My daughter was the only 2 yr old there. She paid her no attention. Tried to get my daughter to come stretch with the 3 and 4 yr olds and she eventually sat down to participate with them. Cynthia seemed to rush the class. Not really meeting the kids needs. Then when they began the bars, she worked with one 4 yr old 5 times on the bars praising her and talking to the parents. How do you expect a 2 YEAR OLD TO WAIT IN LINE FOR HER TURN FOR 10 MIN? And then she NEVER Gave my daughter a turn. Really terrible service. I would've respected her decision to not work with 2 year olds but she invited us and we drove from more than 20 min away. When she decided it was time to try Tumbling, AGAIN! She ignores my daughter. Massive fail. Too bad to since I'm from Folsom and wanted another gymnastics class for my daughter. read more

Ms. Cynthia plays favorites and allows some children to be very rude and disruptive in class, while ignoring other children. The routine never changes, even when it is obvious the children do not get it and are too young for the routine. Cynthia spends no time working with individual children to help them learn to dance. This class was not fun for my 3.5 year old and she actually loves dancing. My DD used to feel bad after the class is done and used to cry/complain almost every day a that the teacher is not fair. Cynthia makes one student as leader in every class and only her favoutrites get the turn to be leaders all the time. Children are not encouraged and there is no one on one relation ship between teacher and student. The class is all about rote learning a routine for a show and nothing about the joy of dancing. read more

I wanted to get my daughter some instruction to improve her posture, build self confidence n poise. While Cynthia's claimed to do just that, something went wrong midway through her time under Cynthia's instruction. As training in said improvements, Cynthia had asked that my daughter compete in the Miss Sacramento/Folsom/Roseville pageant. She accepted n we did everything that was asked n more, to prepare for this event. My daughter was happily crowned n started her year long reign as Miss Pre-Teen Roseville, even though she was already a teenager. We initially made all community service appearances, which were scheduled by Cynthia. We also contacted places n events that my daughter could serve at beyond the scheduled ones n got approval from Cynthia to do so. As time went on, Cynthia's involvement with her pageant winners became less n less. Her focus was more on her dance students n the musical production she directs within her dance studio. When my daughter needed some encouragement n more training on protocol, I contacted Cynthia, but she was not interested in meeting with her. She did have a talk with my daughter over the phone before an appearance n that helped a lot, but I could tell, was not something Cynthia was happy to do. On the morning of one of our sought out events, my daughter fell ill n couldn't make her appearance n shockingly, she was suspended by Cynthia, indefinitely. She was embarrassed that her name would be associated with us not able to show n she was very angry. I tried to get an audience with Cynthia to discuss the sudden suspension, but was not granted that opportunity. Weeks n months went by, but Cynthia wouldn't reply to emails or phone calls we made, inquiring to talk with us. We waited patiently at first n then reached out to other "royalty" (as she called the pageant winners) and were surprised to find out that we weren't the only ones snubbed by Cynthia. 12 of the 18 crowned n appointed winners had either quit or had their titles taken away. It is so unfortunate that the girls would have to go thru this n really put a bad taste in my daughters mouth, for what pageants are all about. Other systems have reached out to us, inviting us to apply n experience a true n legit pageant opportunity. read more

Terrible- go see for yourself and have a trial class before you buy a groupon here. This place shouldn't even be called a dance studio- it is claustrophobic and Cynthia is truly quite grumpy and not kid friendly at all. The routine with the girls never changed and they were doing the same thing and bored with it and she would just be impatient and grumpy about it when really it is her fault for not changing things up a bit. There are way better options out there. We figured it out pretty quickly and did not return after the groupon for a month. read more

We signed up through a $25 special for a free month, tutu and no registration fee. Wish we would have passed this special up as we spent hundreds on one recital that was almost funny it was so bad. She raised the tuition to $60 a month in February which after the horrendous joke of a recital in January was the last straw. We currently now attend the Hawkins dance studio in Folsom which is amazing and award winning. Tuition at the Hawkins is only $55 a month. Look up Hawkins if you are interested in dance for a child in Folsom and skip Cynthia's. Cynthia's costs more and she is the only dance instructor we ever saw and she is my best guess in her 50's and way past where she should be teaching little girls to dance. If you qualify for AARP and are the only instructor at your school maybe you should retire already. I couldn't have been any more unhappy with Cynthia and her "dance studio" She is the only dance instructor here that we ever saw. Her productions which she bills as plays are a joke. She said my daughter would be in the Wizard of Oz and we paid way too much for a junky costume that feel apart the day we tried it on. It was not the Wizard of OZ just little clips that were mixed in with random dancing that had nothing to do with the Wizard of Oz. It was bizarre and my guests and I were baffled. During the recital the wrong music played, the props were a joke, and she taught the same exact dance moves to multiple groups of dancers. She had us take our daughters at 11:45 for a pm show and the parents then had to wait outside until we were allowed to enter the theater at 1:45. I was sitting in the theatre while my daughter was backstage and Cynthia told me I couldn't sit and wait inside because there was no saving of seats I had to go stand outside. Unreal. I paid $80 for tickets. During the show the theatre had so many Cynthia is very rude and acts like she is doing you and your child a favor. Reminds me of my grouchy Grandma who finds fault with everything. We saw how bad one recital was and left ASAP as did lots of other girls who we now all go to a great dance school in Folsom as we see them there for classes and wish I would have just gone to Hawkins first and saved ourselves a lot of money and disgust at Cynthia and her antics. The last class we went to Cynthia told another Mom in front of us and our small children how all the mistakes from the recital/show were the fault of the photographers who were the parents of her Dorothy character. She threw them under the bus. In my opinion Cynthia's dance studio is a total joke and waste of money. If you want a good dance school go try free classes at the Hawkins in Folsom. read more

My daughter just had her recital yesterday. All I can say is disaster. I would NOT recommend signing your daughter or son up at this center, just a warning. Cynthia is rude and unprofessional. She will also nickle and dime you every chance she gets. Her dance instruction is null and void - she teaches like she has never danced in her life. She needs to find another profession, one that she can handle. During the last month her attitude and pushy personality really shined through I guess due to her stress level for the recital. She is also unfair and biased to certain dancers. We have attended for close to a year and will not be returning for another season. We will now sign up with another studio - tho my daughter will probably have to start over. Do not waste precious moments of a dance education or your money at this place. read more

I can't begin to describe how thankful we are to have found Ms Cynthia's dance studio. My daughter, 4 looks fwd to seeing Ms Cynthia every week. Just like the studio size and that it's not a big dance school where little ones like my daughter feels overwhelmed. Besides, the owner/founder is teaching..... can't find that much these days. Most dance schools are big and crowded. Ms Cynthia is definitely very patient with the little ones and knows how to guide them. She has more than 30 years of teaching experience - no wonder! Awful. I tried taking my daughter here for a few months and finally needed to stop. Cynthia is impatient with the kids and seems to lack social skills not only with the little ones but adults too. When I finally went back into the other room where the toddlers are taught, the girls didn't seem like they were having fun and one 3 year old went running, crying to her mom when Cynthia lost her patients with her. Enough was enough. Don't waste your money. Dance should be fun and something children want to do. I would recommend looking elsewhere. read more

I feel really bad about leaving this review, but as a mom, I feel its better i forewarn other moms before they decide to enroll. PROS: Ms Cynthia owns the studio and teaches. There are 2 dance recitals/yr, using same costume so you don't waste money on purchasing multiple costumes. You can watch your kids dance in the studio. Good center if you want a BASIC introduction to dance or looking for an afternoon activity for your child. CONS: Ms Cynthia is the sole teacher for the ENTIRE SCHOOL, therefore variety of choreography/dance technique is poor. The teaching is not enjoyable for the kids, and her tone is very sarcastic when kids are too playful or don't pick up the steps. Ms Cynthia does not encourage students who dance well, but rather calls out on students who make mistakes. For the older kids, there is no emphasis on technique, so kids kick with bent legs, flexed feet, pirrouettes with poor balance because there's no teaching of spotting. As PP stated, the weekly classes are REPETITIVE with no variety., and most importantly no teaching of musicality and love of dance! Sadly, there is serious favoritism going on here. And you will notice it in the placement of her favorite students (favorites for looks, not technique) in the front of the class, in addition to having several dance routines in the recital. Sadly, I would not reccomend as Ms Cythnia boasts she has been "doing this for 23 years". read more

She looks forward to every class and has developed a good understanding of the ballet and tap routines.Even at this young age Miss Cynthia was able to get the girls familiar with all the terminology while having fun. We danced here for over a year also. I had many many of the same comments as Dawnna Z. Cynthia does not teach the "art" of dance as she advertises, she teaches the same steps over and over again! Her main goal to to put on 2 recitals a year. She never helped the girls who struggled a bit but sent them off to the back room with another student. When recital time comes she turns maniacal and makes the girls go to lessons 3 times a week. If the girls couldn't attend the "extra" lessons she got mad. Instead of teaching the new steps on the scheduled days, she would teach the new steps on one of the extra days. We picked the day and time for classes because that was the day we were available, not the others. When she ordered costumes and they didn't fit the girls, her response was "oh well". As the recital comes closer she keeps adding things we need to buy. We never know the full costs up front. She also does "street shows" in Folsom. These are not to promote the girls but to promote her business. Cynthia seems nice at first but then the sarcasm starts. She talks about parents to other parents also which is very unprofessional! She has her favorites for sure! The costumes must be paid for months in advance as already stated, but, they don't get there until a week before the performance. read more
