My wife and I rented a boat from MSS/Hamline Marine on Sebasticook Lake today. They offer several…read moreboats on the lake there in Newport (within walking distance of Cooper Flagg's house), and ours was a 21' deck boat. Very clean, late model, had a lovely three hours on the lake. I'd go for a depth finder on any Maine lake, but other than that, no complaints, and very friendly staff. Much better way to spend your boating dollar than owning one of these things!

After going through our first winter in this new house we share with two others, arranging someone…read moreto plow and trying to keep the gravel driveway clear between plowing, we decided to have the driveway paved. We got an estimate from Roundy's and hired them to do it even though, to be frank, we couldn't find any good reviews on them, or many reviews at all for that matter. But the owners (husband and wife) made a good impression on us so we went with it. I didn't seek out multiple estimates. I liked that they are local, and I figured if someone else came in 5% cheaper or whatever, maybe the quality would be 10% worse for all I know. Their crews were pleasant and easy to work with and the work quality seems top notch to us. They graded and leveled the long, narrow driveway that ran along the street, cutting the edge of the street so they could pave up level to it. They brought in fresh gravel as a base and built two retaining walls for support: a smaller one made of good old large Maine boulders, and a sturdier one made with equally large but symmetrical street-facing concrete blocks. There was a delay after that step as they had to wait for the manufacturer of the wall blocks to fashion covers for them before continuing. That took about six weeks and was beyond their control. But then the paving itself took place, all in one day, and the job was finished to our satisfaction. I feel obliged to point out that communication seems to be their only weakness. We left messages to check up on progress that they didn't respond to, forcing a follow-up call by us,, and a couple of times crews showed up first thing in the morning to start a phase of the job and we weren't told in advance, so one of the residents who works from home had to interrupt a work meeting to give us keys to move their vehicle. That was just a minor irritant to us, knowing how tough the current climate is for businesses to find good help, and I only mention it in case communication is more important to you that it is to us as retired folks. So here we are a month after the paving was completed and there have been no issues with the new tar as yet.

I would love to be able to leave a review on the quality of work that Roundy's Paving does, but…read moreunfortunately they ghosted me after supposedly putting us on their paving schedule way back in September. I called multiple times, left messages (when the voicemail box wasn't full), texted, and emailed and was only able to reach Lisa twice - both times she assured me that we were on their schedule. I have received no response in the last month and a half after asking them to simply let me know one way or the other if they're going to do the job. I can't imagine treating customers like this. We could have tried to get someone else to do the job had they just let me know they couldn't do it, but instead they strung me along. As I waited for a return call I watched them pave local business, town and state roads, and residential jobs - so I know they're still operating. Apparently they just don't care about the "small" jobs. Hard to believe how difficult it is to get this company to do what they said they'd do, with thousands of dollars in hand to give them no less.

Do not work for this company if you are not looking for long-term employment. They are money…read morehungry and looking to make the big bucks, but the dedicated employees are not worthy.... no matter how long they have been there. They want employees who will do labor and NOT complain if it's done wrong. The dispatcher of rolloff trucks is too new and not used to dispatching, and will make you look like the problem. You drivers WILL work through lunch breaks, yet be deducted the time from your time sheets.....happened MANY, MANY times to me.

I scheduled an appointment, but the company reached out to reschedule because they were busy, which I understood and agreed to move it to the following day. The second appointment was scheduled for 9:30 AM. I waited for two hours expecting someone to arrive, but no one showed up. I eventually had to call and text for an update, only to be told they were unable to come out again. I understand that things happen, but having to reschedule twice and not receiving communication until I reached out myself was disappointing. Overall, the experience felt unprofessional and was frustrating as a customer who was trying to get a needed repair completed.
