Surprised and upset I left the Branch and called my retirement financial institution and was told there was no problem with my account, but, a fraud alert was flagged and that if the Branch simply called the transaction could have been cleared and verified. In other words, they're adopting the worst strategy possible to protect your money and the best possible strategy for them to make money. Their support staff also barely speaks english. Synchrony still charged me $3.00 of trailing (residual) interest on May 22. I paid this in full and they assured me that my account was now closed on May 28. On June 21, they charged me another $5.00, which I promptly paid. I then asked Synchrony on the phone how I could get them to close the account and stop charging me interest, and all they would tell me was to check for more money due later. I asked how much I could pay that day to close everything: they wouldn't tell me. I asked if I could pay a larger amount--such as $20--to ensure closure, and they could keep the change later; they said that they could not accept more than was currently due (such as the $5.00 for June). On July 22, they charged me another $7.00, which I paid on July 31. Notice how the amount owed is increasing by $2 per month--from $3 to $5 to $7--even though I have paid each month on time. I just talked to them on the phone again (on August 4), and they instructed me that--even though the $7.00 for July 22 is not due until August 14--and I paid it in full on July 31--I "might" still owe additional money again at the end of August. When are government banking regulators going to SHUT DOWN THIS ABUSIVE BANK?
