If you're a boomer who never uses them for anything online, or only uses well-recognized names,…read morethey're great. If you use online services like Steam, Grubhub, or anything similar - they will fraud flag small online charges every two or three transactions, culminating in the need to go through a restrictive and cumbersome biometric verification - and/or waiting for an in-person letter for several weeks, or both - before letting you use your card again. But large in-person transactions will go through consistently, no matter how weird or wild. In other words, they're adopting the worst strategy possible to protect your money and the best possible strategy for them to make money. Their support staff also barely speaks english. If you escalate to a manager, you get someone who understands you, but also is reading from a script and doesn't know how the system actually works. If you want a card that's useful for in-person purchases, if you want a card for emergencies, if you want a card to book flights or buy furniture, this is the card for you. Don't rely on it beyond that though, because you will get screwed over by the moronic fraud flagging.

Extremely frustrated with Synchrony Bank. I have had multiple accounts with them, including PayPal…read moreCredit and CareCredit, and I have experienced the same issue with both. With PayPal Credit, I was originally approved for an $1,800 limit. Synchrony reduced it to $1,440, then after I paid my balance down to $825.18, they reduced the limit again to only $850. That left me with basically no available credit and nearly 100% utilization, despite the fact that I had actually paid my balance down. The timing was especially frustrating because my credit score had finally increased by 59 points after I worked hard to improve my credit. Then Synchrony reduced my limit and potentially hurt my credit utilization through no action of my own. And this isn't just happening with PayPal Credit. They have done the same thing with my CareCredit account as well. It is incredibly frustrating to make payments and responsibly manage your balances, only to have Synchrony repeatedly reduce your available credit and potentially undo the progress you're making. I understand that banks can adjust credit limits, but repeatedly lowering limits after customers pay down their balances, without providing a clear explanation, is extremely frustrating and feels like a terrible way to treat customers. Stay away from Synchrony Bank if you care about maintaining your credit profile. My experience with them has been incredibly frustrating, and I would seriously think twice before opening or keeping an account with them.
