Czerwony Wieprz is an amazing restaurant, specializing in Polish classic cuisine. The name translates to Red Hog in English and the atmosphere is incredibly charming. Also note the outdoor seating that seemed in high demand. Reservations (for any seat) are important, so book ahead.
I visited recently on a trip to Warsaw and despite having sampled Polish food all week, this was by far the most delicious of the bunch.
Each dish delivered a unique and completely satisfying flavor. It was so good that even dishes I thought I knew and didn't care for were reborn as the most delicious version I could imagine.
Four of us sampled:
- Luxury lard spread and fresh bread: Less lard and a lot more meat than expected, it was so good and didn't seem overly decadent somehow.
- Veal dumplings: Nice, very finely ground meat filling with a nice flavor, but very soft texture.
- Muchroom and leek dumplings: Powerful flavor that was really delicious if you're a mushroom fan, we all raved about these.
- Borscht: Think a purple broth, with a complex flavor that was sweet, sour, and savory all at once. Maybe my favorite thing.
- Fried pork chop: Popular dish around here, this version was a pounded thin, but not as thin as some places I visited. The meat was very juicy and a joy to eat.
- Roasted duck: Large portion, the owner was thrilled, also came with a lot of interesting sides.
- Beer: We sampled a few on tap, all excellent. Like many places in Warsaw, they have a few distinct styles on tap, but not a huge selection. You'll find something you like I'll bet. read more
