There is something incredibly grounding about catching the park early in the morning, especially when there's a blanket of fog hovering right over the Duck Pond. We use this time to soak in the serenity and wonder of nature, establishing peace with ourselves before we have to give the rest of our day to others. As the oldest coastal public park in Greenwich (Robert Moffat Bruce donated the 100-acre estate back in 1908), it's just a beautiful, historic piece of land. It is always incredibly clean and impeccably well-maintained. The landscape transitions seamlessly from open wooded areas to tranquil ponds with benches and scenic salt marshes. If you are into photography, this place is an absolute goldmine for flowers and wildlife. It's a diverse sanctuary for both resident and migratory birds. Depending on the season, I've been able to photograph everything from Great Blue Herons, Great Egrets, Mute Swans, and Double-crested Cormorants to Raptors like Red-tailed Hawks, Ospreys, and even wintering Bald Eagles. The songbirds (like Carolina Wrens and Tufted Titmice) and winter visitors like Buffleheads and Wood Ducks make it a birdwatcher's paradise. Beyond the wildlife and walking/jogging paths, the park has a ton of amenities--a great children's playground, gazebos, picnic areas, and scattered public art and sculptures. For sports, they have baseball/softball fields, tennis courts, and even a lawn bowling and croquet court. Public restrooms are also available and kept clean. Whether you're looking for a vigorous morning jog, a spot to bring the family, or just a quiet place to sit on a bench and watch the ospreys dive, Bruce Park is a local gem. The large sundial sculpture is an interesting attraction. There is a little diagram nearby explaining how the sundial works. There are also a few sculptures there as well. Very safe with lots of friendly park-goers. Public welcome...no town/county/state restrictions to my knowledge.

It rises at Bedford, NY in Westchester, NY. Altogether, the park in both is a bit more than 220 acres total The trail is accessible from parking lots in Greenwich and Stamford that allow access to the park, but check to see if PARKING PERMITS ARE REQUIRED. Dogs should be kept on lead and under control, not just because it's the right thing, but also because there is wildlife in the park, Eagles nest in the areas and Black Bears are known to nest there. There is a Mianus Web site as also from Stamford and Greenwich. IN the 90s, a fishway was built to allow migratory fish to enter the river as they had previously. It's just a beautiful place that I once shared with a neighbor occasionally as we walked our dogs in the park, a rare time witha great person in early sages of cancer until she had to give it up.

A decent little park. One of the better ones in Stamford…read more 2 recent October Sunday visits I saw quite a few dog walkers, joggers and fishermen. Yet the park was relatively empty. Quiet and peaceful. The parking lot (free parking!) is a potholed mess. But the 3/4 mile gravel walking path is in good shape. Lots of geese pooping all over the grass. Stay on the walking path. If you attempt to venture down to waters edge you will encounter empty beer cans, tons of broken glass and condom wrappers. (Why is Stamford such a pit?)

Looking at Kosciuszko Park, I saw that there was no fee, only fees for using the common area/Gazebo. We got there at about 5PM on a Friday afternoon. As noted on the website, there is no fee to enter the park. There is a large parking lot there and the only people that were in the park were a few runners and a few local older groups who seem to be regulars. The walking trails are gravel and dirt with lots of goose poop in the grass, so you can kiss those fresh all white sneakers goodbye if you are not careful. The park is a nice free option to get some good views while taking a walk. I do plan on returning on the nicer days to the visit the other fee-based parks, including Cove Island Park, as they seem to be a lot bigger and offer more to do.

A recent sold-out lecture by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer was inspiring, challenging and warmly entertaining. It was followed by a marvelous chamber music concert featuring a collection mostly contemporary works influenced by a connection with nature. Grace Farms' mission is to support nature, arts, justice, community and faith. It's a much-appreciated place to refocus and refuel in these difficult times.
