    Mn Mike's Fence And Repair

I hired MN Mike's Fence and Repair for a residential fence project in spring 2025. While the…read moreinitial estimate and installation timeline seemed reasonable, the overall experience deteriorated significantly after the work began. After installation, I discovered that the old concrete footings were left in place directly under the new fence panels. The estimate stated "removal and haul away," and at no point prior to installation was I informed that old footings would be excluded or require additional cost. Once I raised the issue, I was told removal would be an additional $75 per footing--information that came only after the work was already completed. Additionally, the gate was installed swinging the wrong direction. I requested a simple hinge/swing correction beginning in May 2025. I received multiple assurances that someone would be sent "next week," but despite repeated follow-ups in May, June, and July, no one ever returned to correct the issue. I withheld the final payment pending completion of this unfinished work. After several months of silence, I began receiving emails and voicemails focused solely on collecting the remaining balance. Rather than addressing the unresolved problems, the communication escalated into threats of a mechanic's lien and small claims court. The tone became aggressive and, frankly, unprofessional. Eventually, the company offered a "discount" that was unclear and inconsistently communicated, followed by deadlines accompanied by legal threats if payment was not made immediately. After months of attempting to resolve this reasonably, I agreed to partial payment simply to bring the situation to a close. This was a disappointing experience marked by poor communication, failure to complete agreed-upon work, and unnecessarily hostile collection tactics. I strongly recommend getting all details in writing, clarifying exactly what "removal" includes, and being prepared to follow up persistently. Based on my experience, I would not hire this company again.

Northland Fence Minnesota - 6' Two-Tone Vinyl Privacy Fence Installation

    Northland Fence Minnesota

This is the second time I hired Northland Fence, this time for a 6 ft privacy vinyl fence. The…read morecompany offered an incredible special for early birds, which allowed us to make a huge fence. The project cost $15,000. The fence runs around our 3/4 acre, encompassing much of the property. PLAN Maria created a beautiful plan based on information provided online for our property (as well as on her private portal). This enabled us to get the project off the ground before I even purchased the house. We scheduled the first install date one day after my house closing. THE INSTALL The installation is done in three stages. I hired a surveyor to mark the property lines. Northland fence ordered the public utilities to be marked out, and I chose to hire Zone One to mark my irrigation and septic (which turned out to be very useful). Next, a full day was spent installing the posts (the day after I purchased the house). Aaron was the leader of a crew of two, and he and I reviewed the placement of the posts in relation to the original plan. We tweaked the plan, and Aaron was helpful, respectful and very patient as I revised things on the ground during the day. Thank you for that! We were able to respect our neighbor's privacy and increase the gate size to accommodate my UTV for snow-ploughing in winter. FINAL INSTALL The final installation was scheduled for 30 days after the post install, but Northland Fence were able to accommodate us early and install a week after. That was an incredible surprise, and our dogs were delighted! A crew of three arrived: Jesse, Chuck and Bobby, and the guys worked from around 9:00am to 5:00pm to install our huge fence. They began without disturbing me, as I was working. When I came out, they updated me that the fence will be completed in a day. They were quiet and respectful of the neighbors, parking on the side of the property. They did a walk around the fence several times during install to ensure that everything was done right, with a final walk-through the next morning when they came to finish off one small part. This gave me time to do a walk-through also. I didn't find anything wrong. The fence was perfect. DESIGN I'll add that I chose a two tone design, at no extra cost. It turned out gorgeous! WARRANTY 10 year warranty from Northland Fence, and they recommend that we contact them with any questions or problems before we check with our home owner's insurance, should any problem arise. RECOMMENDED.

Our fence was installed yesterday Jan 6th. It looks good, and seems like a quality product. They…read morefulfilled the contract exactly. Just be sure to read and understand the contract before signing. We didn't, and that's on us. The contract stated 2 to 4 week completion for our fence. In our case, Northland came out on Dec 10th and removed our old fencing, set some of the new posts, then left by noon. They returned on Dec 26th to finish the remaining posts. They returned on Jan 6th and installed the fence. All of the crews were polite and respectful. Our project was completed 3 weeks and 6 days after they began. Our problem was that our dog couldn't use the yard and the deer - the reason that we needed the fence - invaded and ate our new $$$ landscaping. There's a reason that a competitor advertises that they use the same crew for the entire process, and get it done in a day or two. If we could go back, we'd have made a different choice.

    Polar Builders

    Polar Builders

After a big hail storm in our neighborhood this past summer, I decided to use Polar Builders…read morebecause a few of my neighbors (whom I trust to do their research) had chosen them. Scott and his son, Chris, were wonderful to deal with, and were professional, nice, and always emailed or called in advance to set up all appointments. They're really nice guys. Fast forward to today, when I get notified by not one, but two of my neighbors (thank goodness they happened to be home) to alert me there was a "strange guy walking around inside your fence, and up on your deck." From their description of the vehicle, I knew I had no clue who it was, plus anyone who knew me would contact me. Worried but not scared, I called Polar, because even though nothing was currently happening with my project (we were waiting 'til spring to make the changes) I wanted to be sure it wasn't them before I called the police. Polar assured me it was no one employed by them, and that they'd never send a contractor out to anyone's property without advance notice or setting an appointment. The lovely Ramsey Co Sheriff's deputy I spoke with expressed concern at this man's shady behavior. After two hours' worth of anxiety, researching, trying to pin down this suspicious activity -- all the while worrying about going home from work after dark by myself because I was sure someone was looking at my place planning to rob it, or worse -- I learned through this nice deputy's research that said skeevy individual WAS, in fact, a Polar Builder employee. Apparently he received correspondence from my insurance company that more pictures were needed of the house, so he took it upon himself to go there WITHOUT NOTICE, without a phone call, text, or email (all information Polar has on file for me) to alert me of this activity. The deputy told me, "he said he rang your doorbell twice and didn't get an answer, but decided to go inside the fence anyway to get his pictures." I was SHOCKED. That is criminal trespass. I gave no authority to this man to be on my property, much less open my fence gate, proceed into my yard, and walk up on my deck. When my neighbors both stopped at the end of the driveway to take pictures of his vehicle for me, he had to have seen them (he's in one of the pictures standing outside his truck; he was inside the truck for the other), but he didn't walk up to them to explain himself. He was in an unmarked vehicle -- NO company logo, phone number, nothing. According to my neighbors, he was there for half an hour, with his truck running the entire time. That doesn't just LOOK shady, that IS shady. This guy's absolutely inappropriate, CRIMINAL behavior scared the crap out of me. When I called to talk to the president of the company and tell him how completely out of line this employee was -- IS -- I got an unemotional, canned response of, "I can see why you'd feel that way," and he was less than sympathetic. After I asked him to think about how he'd like it if some jerk scared his wife or daughters like this, he finally loosened up and apologized for his employee's behavior. He never offered to make it right, or ask how he could make it right -- he just continued to say, "I'm sorry he acted that way, but I can't change what he did." In spite of liking Scott and Chris -- who were in no way involved with this episode, and whom I respect -- I cannot trust a company that a) allows an employee to act in a criminal manner, and then b) doesn't express the utmost concern for a wronged client affected by said criminal behavior. I fired Polar Builders and will NEVER recommend them to anyone. If a company allows its employees to show up unannounced, and enter onto the property and take pictures and in general act like low-life thugs casing a joint (as I see from someone else's review has happened before), what ELSE are they allowing them to do when they're onsite at people's homes on the job???
