Exceptional service from North Star - John, the owner, showed up with his crew to put the posts in and was assiduous about ensuring the posts were properly place within my property lines on my kind of weirdly shaped lot. He lots at the surveyor plots a few times and we discussed going up into the back sloped corner. It turned out great - gave my dogs the most room possible. I did a pretty high-end fence (white, no-maintenance type) and it looks great against the white trim of my pale yellow house. We had to wait a few days for the 5-foot gate to come in, but one day I hear John out there - and there he is, the owner himself, installing the gate. He gave me some tips on maintenance and how the gate worked (easy peasy, and gorgeous). I would highly recommend John and his crew for any fence work. My dogs also give him five stars! read more

North Star Fence put in a wood privacy fence around a large area of my back yard to protect my dogs from teasing, and me from my nosy neighbor. The schedule was met on time. A few years ago I needed a fence built around a tennis court on my property. I called around and was surprised to find how difficult it was/is to find a good fence company. Well, it all changed when I found the North Star fence company. Everybody at North Star is nice. John the owner is one of the nicest and most easy going people I have ever met. I gave him the job and he built a beautiful fence for me. First class work indeed. A couple of months ago I had a bobcat operator do some cleanup work around the tennis court which did not go well. He ran into the fence and damaged a big section of it. I called North Star fence and John the owner fixed the fence so well that it looks like nothing ever happened. They did a FANTASTIC job putting a fence in our backyard! The ground undulates, and every section of chain link parallels the ground it is on. They were even able to drill a hole down through the roots of the neighbor's large maple tree for one of the posts. They made suggestions on where to put a 2nd gate against terracing on one side. And on the other side of the house, did fantastic along their stairs from backyard to kitchen door, and a nice gate just past that door and room for us to put a grill! Great price, too! If I could leave ZERO stars I would. DON'T TRUST THIS COMPANY!!! The decision to hire NSF to install a privacy fence was one of the worst decisions I could have made. John promised us it would be the "top of the line fence" with "overlapping pickets" that "overlapped by more than any other company's." We wanted complete privacy due to having dogs and not wanting them to get out or be able to see into the next yard. What we got was side by side pickets that you can already see through. When this was brought to John's attention he said that another lady that same day had called him about him installing the wrong fence in her yard. So clearly this is a pattern. John blamed me for not noticing this error and then insisted that he installed the correct one. He stated that the order was changed to side by side pickets to get the cost down. WRONG. That conversation never happened and I never agreed to any other fence than the ONE we talked about (overlapping 3 rail picture frame). We attempted to communicate with John regarding this issue. He ignored our calls and refused to talk to us. When he did eventually answer he said that a lawyer would be in contact with us. A few weeks later we received a letter from his girlfriend saying if we didn't pay the remaining balance (we cancelled last payment due to it being the wrong fence) within 10 days they were going to sue us. We countered their claim and laid out everything that happened leading up to their mistake as well as referencing that the checks he had us write were written out to his girlfriend in Florida, not NSF. John had previously shared that he just sold his house for over a million dollars in the Keys and that he replaced one of the engines in his boat that cost $40k. But yet he runs his business with a flip phone, pencil, and notebook. I guess I'm not surprised he got the order mixed up. Overall, we paid thousands of dollars for a fence we never ordered, our dogs can see through into the neighbors' yards, and there is no resolution. They got our money and I get stuck with this damn fence I never wanted. This has been the WORST company I have ever dealt with. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THEM TO ANYONE! read more

Gorgeous... I love our 6 foot privacy fence. By far better quality cedar boards were installed by them than their competitors and their bid was cheaper too. The craftmanship is wonderful. I wish they built decks. We looked for 2 years before we finally hired someone to do our fence, and by far Northstar was the best choice. The other companies we looked at had to many complaints with the better business bureau, and for as long as Northstar has been around I found one complaint. They took care of it immediately and the client was satisfied. Great company! read more

6 feet cedar privacy fence for my backyard. quality materials. good workmanship. first day got all the posts in. week later, came to finish gates and boards. rate was $30 per foot plus $150 per gate. fence posts are not cedar. they are treated to prevent rot underground. 10 year warranty. was told fence should last at least 25 years. I love my fence and backyard. I've gotten so may compliments from neighbors and family and friends. the guys were so hard working, I was so impressed! read more
