Very frustrating experience. I would not use this contractor again. I signed a contract for a repair job for about $1,350. After the contract was already signed, the contractor returned with a subcontractor, looked at the house again, and then sent a new estimate for roughly $1,300 more, nearly doubling the original price. Because the price changed so much after the agreement, I decided not to move forward. No actual repair work was done on the house, but I was still charged $300 to cancel the contract after what was basically a short walkthrough visit. I understand that construction projects can uncover additional issues, but I did not expect the cost to increase that much after signing, and I definitely did not expect to be charged a cancellation fee when no work had been performed. In my opinion, the process felt very one-sided and not customer friendly. I recommend that anyone considering this company read the contract very carefully, especially the cancellation terms and how change orders are handled, before signing anything. read more

We engaged D&D Construction to renovate after damage caused by a major water leak in our daylight basement. This area includes 2 bdrms, a bathroom and larger common area. What follows are our observations and opinions of the experience. Your experience may differ. We selected D&D Construction in April 2025 with an intent to begin work on May 1st. As written, the contract anticipated completion by July 10th. Our first mistake was accepting a contract with a calendar payment schedule (about 90% of the cost was to be paid by the end of May). We should have insisted progress payments tied to completion milestones. When work seemed to lag and we suggested tying payments to results, the response was - to paraphrase - "we'll stop work and sue you." This was a clarifying moment that foretold the relationship going forward. The contract notes that work may not happen every day. That rather understated the case: we experienced gaps of days and weeks between progress. Clearly, some delays were related to materials and work changes (see the next paragraphs) but there were periods when work could have been done but we waited and waited. Hence the advantage of using progress payments to align the interests of the contractor with the customer. As it turned out, work stretched into October. Drywall work uncovered hidden termite damage. The drywall of the daylight basement adjacent to the ground had to be fully removed (previously, part of that wall had the lower four feet removed by the disaster recovery firm) so that the studs and ground plate could be replaced before installing new drywall. D&D Construction and its sub were flexible and responsive to this unexpected work (via a formal change order with an associated major dollar amount, of course). D&D Construction's contract disclaims obtaining fixtures and other major items needed for the repair work. In our case, this meant we were to order replacement doors, bathroom fixtures, and the wet bar cabinetry. We measured the frames for the replacement doors and their swing direction with the proprietor of D&D Construction then waited a couple of weeks for the doors to be delivered. (Clearly, this measurement and ordering should have been done on the day the contract was signed.) When the doors arrived and a sub tried to install them, it turned out there was some characteristic (rounded door frames?) making the doors unusable. Further, at least one door had the wrong "swing." We re-measured, re-ordered, and waited. In my view, the 3+ week delay - along with the hassle and cost - of the door issue was a failure of D&D Construction. We hired a general contractor for, among other things, experience and knowledge. Ordering the wrong doors seems like a "rookie mistake." We had another change order to go with stone tile for the bathroom floor (rather than lux vinyl). When inspecting the completed work, I was surprised that neither the grout nor the stone tile had been sealed (something I thought was standard practice). I was told that sealant was not part of the change order; yet another omission/mistake that I believed should not have happened with the "experience and knowledge" of a general contractor. D&D Construction's sub-contractors were of varying quality and skill level. The drywall sub did mostly acceptable work but, after the studs were removed and replaced, the electrical junction boxes were not correctly re-attached (the re-framing carpenter should have done that, the drywall contractor should have called out that omission); having to re-attaching junction boxes *after* installing drywall is an unneeded difficulty carrying the risk of damaging the new drywall. There seem to have been at least two different contactors doing plumbing work. When the drywall contractor (called back for some minor rework) noted water dripping from a leak, we found a copper pipe elbow with a cold solder joint near a bizarre configuration of multiple PEX elbows. When we contacted D&D Construction about the leak, we were told they were aware of it and would fix it. This was mid-day Friday. I think we should have been told about an active leak when it was found. We shut off the water to the house and insisted on a Saturday repair (or at least a cap-off so water could be restored). We were left to wonder if the drywall contractor had not called the issue to our attention, would the leak have continued over the weekend or longer? Would there have been subsequent water leak damage? Fortunately, the plumber that came on Saturday morning was great: he tore out the poor PEX and copper piping work and replaced them with copper that was so good I took a photo of it. 3 stars because the work was completed. read more

The first job that we had done at our house was a view fence that needed to be reconstructed. I was so pleased with the job that was performed and the workmanship was excellent. A year later we needed another job done we decided not to get estimates from anybody else because we had such a great experience the first time with D&D Construction, we had the total opposite experience the second time around the contractors left a mess the job is not complete Dion came over on a Friday night with his contractor to show them what needed to be done to complete the job. Dion told me that the contractors were going to come the very next morning to clean up and do some extra touchups, So my wife made the Final payment to Dion which was a mistake on our part lesson learned because on Saturday no one showed up so on Monday we spoke to Dion how his contractors never showed up and at that time that is when Dion decided to wash his hands of it and tell us we made final payment job is complete. I used DD about 2 years ago, he came in gave a quote, good quote, started work 2 wks later. Overall his workers did a great job, unfortunately Dion kept wanting them to take short cuts, I had a wall remove, per Dion we need a engineer to and permit to remove, ok, that cost about $600, no problem, he said he would get the permit and give us a copy, we received the engineering report, but never received the permit, I've been trying to contact him but he won't answer. when I contacted the city office I found out he never got a permit to remove the wall. His workers had to come back many times to fix things that w not to code. They told us he told them to use materials that were cheaper to save money! I called this individual and attempted to make an appointment for a bid for remodeling work in kitchen and bathrooms. I requested a 3 to 3:30 pm. He tells me his last appointment can't go past 3pm. I told him that my wife doesn't get home from work until 2:30. He says that he'll try to be there at 2:30. I then try to give my address. He interrupts me and tells me to text it. I told him that's a problem because I don't text. He then says that is a problem and maybe I better call somebody who can write while they're driving. At that point I say why don't you pull over and then I tell him to forget it and hang up. This guy has an attitude that would not work in my house. I should preface this with saying that I DO have a roof now. -I called multiple times and was ghosted for days. Eventually the estimate was accepted and an appointment was set. Without contact they showed up earlier than discussed, leaving their trailer and dump truck in my yard all weekend, no work was being done. -We discussed that they need to bring their own electric source, instead they opened my back door and plugged in their extension cord without word or knocking. My wife locked said door and they later yanked the cord out of the wall and from under my door. After mouthing off to her about the cord being locked in the door. -On the last day they left slate shards, which are very sharp, all over my yard along with 3" screws. -My PERSONAL garbage can was filled with slate before they left. If I were to guess I'd say it weighs over 200 lbs. Glad I'm not old and it's on wheels. I wanted to support local business, in the future, it won't be this one. The list of materials we had chosen was much more detailed and above and beyond any of the information we were given. After sending this spreadsheet to him AGAIN after a visit with him and the foreman. We recieved no communication back. I don't know what customer he is confusing us with but he is out and out lying about us not doing what we needed to do. We are not the only customers that have had problems with him. I just moved into an older home in Mesa, and before moving in, my wife and I decided to do some major remodeling. We checked around Yelp for some highly rated businesses for our projects and asked several to submit bids. From the beginning Dion from D&D Construction was prompt, courteous, easy to work with, answered all my questions, listened to my concerns, worked around my schedule, made adjustments or fixes to the items I addressed. Dion gave us itemized estimates for our project which included new tile floors, new base board, new crown moulding, adding a closet, raising the kitchen ceiling, tearing down a wall to open up the kitchen to the living room, new kitchen counter top, closing up a window to make room for relocating the refrigerator, installed a sliding glass shower door, a new doggie door built into the block wall, and a remolded fireplace with a new stone veneer. Dion's crew can pretty much do whatever you need and since I don't have much time available between work, the wife, my baby girl, I threw everything at them including the kitchen sink. When I complained about the counter top not being one piece and a small chip in it, Dion didn't hesitate and had a new one piece counter top installed at no extra cost to me. Also, when I requested some rework on some of my tile floor, he had his guys return to fix the tiles I felt weren't properly installed. My husband and I wanted some work done asap. We called D & D on a holiday weekend and my call was answered! I was able to speak to Dion, the owner, and we set up an appointment for 7am immediately following the holiday. Dion was TIMELY, ENTHUSIASTIC, and HONEST about the work we wanted done. We got an estimate that was beyond reasonable for the following: 1. Cabinet repainting (kitchen and two other bathrooms) 2. Granite replacement (kitchen and two of the bathrooms) 3. New sinks AND faucets (kitchen and two of the bathrooms) 4. New hardware for all cabinets 5. Rebuilding a shower (subway tile, new floor, new doors and faucet) 6. Replacing a washer connector 7. New medicine cabinets in two of the bathrooms He began the work on the following Monday after we hammered out some details. Dion was there on time with a whole crew. They were all beyond courteous and began working right away and continued to work hard all day, every day. Dion was extremely responsive as to progress and any questions we had! The job moved along just as described! Some dust/ventilation issues came up, unexpectedly, however, and we had to stay away from the house longer than expected because we have three very small children. Dion was not only apologetic, but he was willing to do what it took to rectify the situation. He went above and beyond to ensure we were safe and comfortable. The work was 100% completed by Saturday, with Dion at the house personally seeing to the project's completion! He checked and double checked the work done, and the whole house was cleaned up! Dion even followed up with us on Monday to see if anything came up over the first couple days. Of course, the work is outstanding, but even the smallest of requests was met with a great attitude and an offer to come out that day.
