Would not recommend. They add substantial cost on top of part costs. Poor communication with customer.

Over priced. Combative owner/mechanic. They fixed a few problems my car had but charged me $400 to "clean" rotors when I've had rotors replaced at the same price at other shops. I also authorized the price at 11 am then called - the mechanic/owner said let me see how much I can get done by 5pm. Somehow magically got everything fixed. Meanwhile I have a mechanic in holland who will LITERALLY let me drive my car until everything is fixed. It's nonsense. They fix stuff and d and j but they do rip you off. I say 1.5/5 or 2/10. Was searching for a place in Midland Michigan that would give me an estimate on what I thought was a front wheel bearing on my Dodge Challenger. Dan the owner gave me a number and stuck to it. But come to find out it was a tie rod and still fixed it that day in two hours and was less than expected. Won't go anywhere else now. Great family owned business! BEWARE. I asked D and J to check my A/C checked and what came back was $900 to fix the A/C and another $900 for "additional work" that needed to be done for a total of $1,800. I took the quote to another mechanic and it cost me a total of $170. They walked me through everything D and J quoted and said it was not accurate. My A/C works great (after D&J quoted me $535 for a new compressor and the other issues did not exist. Their response was embarrassing at a minimum. Trying to defend Attached are copies of the quote and what I paid. A/C just need a charge and is running great and the other issues they quoted don't exist. read more

The service is very quick, Daniel the owner is all about the money and not about helping his customers. I went there twice the first time I was there he over charge me .I decide to try him again nothing changes, he is still about money with no compassion what so ever I had to insist that he gave me a little discount like that is going hurt his money. I want be going back for his service . Daniel Son who works with him is unfriendly and has a bad attitude. I was told by a "Warehouse Store Tire Center" that I had an issue with stripped threads on a right rear wheel stud and should have a mechanic replace it. I've used D&J before and liked their work so I went back. They got me in quickly and began working on my car. They could not find the reported problem but rather then sending me on my way they also inspected the other wheels incase the problem was in a different location. No stripped threads found. I'm very happy using D&J for my auto repairs and service. I trust their opinions and there work. read more

My car had no power at all, had it towed to D&Js to see what was wrong. My car went straight into a bay and checked out. All the things that ran thru my mind were wrong. Just needed a new battery which was directly charged up and I was on my way. I found the staff very business-like and courteous. They kept me advised on everything they were doing. I spent $600 on my car for the temperature gage and $100 on the headlight. The owner of the shop- Daniel, told me to bring it in on a Thursday morning and then behaved like he didn't have time for me and was irritated I was there. I was going to give him the benefit of the doubt but then my headlight went out again after 5 days. I've had Pickering Auto replace my bulb for $10 this past winter and they were a lot nicer. The headlight goes out a lot so I brought that up with Daniel and I said it may even be wiring. Apparently all he did was replace the bulb and charge me $100 for it. My check engine light came on again after about 7 days of getting fixed. I'm so upset that I can't even bring myself to return to the shop and ask them to look at it again. read more

Had an issue with my engine's vacuum system. Brought the car in and the technician actually listened to what I'd been able to figure out already. Fixed it with a quick turn around and without costing me a ton in labor to figure out what I already knew. read more

This place is straight garbage. Had to take my truck back multiple times for the same issue. They never got it right. Oil pressure was dropping initially. After they had it for 4 days they said it was fixed. About $500. A couple days later same issue. Took it back. Another $300. Picked it up, took it back 4 days later. More money for the same issue that they couldnt resolve. In total I took it in to them 5 times in a month for the same issue and it cost me about $1200 or more. They never got it fixed correctly. They also broke off my driver's side mirror backing out of the building, broke the plastic piece on my gas cap, pushed in my headlight knob and broke the clip behind it, and my truck came back with lights on that were not on before. They did try to get away with ordering me a cheap replacement mirror. I told them I wanted the original mirror with the blinker inside of it. That took about 5 phone calls from me and my wife and 2 months to get in. Of course they ordered an aftermarket mirror and not an original. Then while installing it they broke the clips in there. I was so done with them after that ordeal that I decided to have another place fix the initial problem for about $175. Never ever go to this place! This is my first ever review that I have written and it makes mad that they are ripping people off and not doing their jobs correctly. read more

Called D & J with our brake issue, they got us in right away and had a great turn-around time. They alerted us to a few other issues which we already knew about and were helpful in solving those. After driving the car a bit, we discovered another issue. They had us come right in the next day, fixed the issue same day at no charge. Very nice staff, reasonable prices, great service. Went to get a uhual today made up a bunch of weird rules that were no part of uhuals regulations (I know because I called uhual directly after going there), super rude to both my husband and I, gave us a huge hassle so we went somewhere else and got a truck immediately. Took my 17 year old van in to ck the u-joints. The 75$ check was negative however, when returned for results the rear brake was tore down- tranny was bad and oil leaking etc. Asked if they do tranny or send out, said they fix so approved work. Owner called 2 times in next week to "add more repairs" which we refused- water pump and manifold. 2500 later and tranny sent out twice I finally got van back. Excuse to send out was for warranty offered by second party. Previous work was done well after repeated returns, but overpriced. Once it might just be life. Twice my fault. Only way a third time will be for warranty work and appears it will need it shortly!!!!!! Buyer Beware. read more

I called D and J auto repair after my 2001 Dodge Durango started having problems with a fuse blowing repeatedly which affected the tail lights and dashboard lights. I was told over the phone that it was a shortage in one of my wires and that they would have to find the wire and fix it. I was quoted at $36-$66 depending on if it took a half hour or an hour to fix. We were very pleased with the fact that they provided us with a loner vehicle since they were unable to get to it the day we dropped it off. I did not hear from them that night (they were supposed to call to let us know if it would be done by close or not) or the next morning, so I called them to see what the progress was. The loner they gave us was an old vehicle with rust and ran very rough. I was concerned about driving it around with my three children for too long. I was told over the phone that they were not done with it but that they had determined that the entire rear electrical would need replaced and it would cost me almost $300! I was shocked, I had been told by two different people a totally different story and then I find out that it was something totally different. Now I know that they can't KNOW what it is without looking at it so my frustration was not that it would cost more, my frustration was that they never called me when they realized that it would cost more than the $66 and they continued to work on it to diagnose issues like a problem with the tyrod and other issues that they stated to me instead of quiting then and only charging me for what I authorized! I ended up paying for an hours diagnostic when they knew the problem right away and the only thing they were doing in that hour was diagnosing other issues to try to get me to spend more money! I never asked them to diagnose tyrod issues or anything else on the car, I authorized them to look at the electrical system to diagnose a fuse issue, nothing else. A respectable business would have listened to my concern and charged me only for the half hour that it took to diagnose the origional problem but they did not. The son of the owner actually laughed at me when I stated that I was planning on writing a review and his words were "It wouldn't matter, we've been around for 15 years". When I reminded him that businesses run on their customer service and how they treat their customers, I was again laughed at and mocked. The owner of the business seemed nice enough, but did nothing to recify the situation and actually didn't even look at me when I was voicing my complaint. I was then told I would need to pay $66 even though when I had called they said I would be charged $54 since they didn't complete the entire hour of work and when I told him what I was told on the phone, he just walked away and called his father, who did fix the error and charge me $54. I paid the money and walked out very frustrated. I still have a car which has no tail lights and I wasted $54 on a company that does not stand behind what they quote you on the phone. Beware of companies that do not stand by what they tell you and/or who do not communicate with you when the outcome is different from what you were told. When dealing with the owner and his son in person, they were very abrupt and rude and I would never treat a client of mine the way they treated me. Absolutely no class or customer service, I will not return to this business and I will never recommend it to anyone I know of who needs car services. read more

They advertise free towing, but charged us for the tow. Our car broke down less than 2 miles from their garage due to a faulty alternator which they had recently installed. While waiting at the counter I heard them tell another customer there was no charge for towing if the work was performed there. The alternator was under warranty. They also advertise free diagnostics if the work is performed there. They charged us diagnostics fee even though we had $800 of work performed. We paid cash for thousands in repairs in the last year. We paid cash due to their policy of charging service fees for credit card payments. We'll be looking for a new garage. read more

Thank you Dan for working so hard to get our engine repaired. After blowing my engine on a cold, late night, Jeremy, Dan's son, arrived to tow my car to a dealership in Bay City. I asked if there was a local repair shop and he mentioned his father's. So that's where we went. Once Dan told us what we knew, he quickly got to work. The next day he found us a newly, rebuilt engine, went to Detroit to pick it up and install it. Upon completing the install, he noticed an oil leak. Rather than return our car with a leak, he pulled the engine (again), fixed the leak and reinstalled it. My car drives like a brand new vehicle. And no, Dan did not pass on the labor cost to us. He dealt with the vendor who sold him the faulty engine. An honest, hard working business man. I would recommend D & J automotive every time!! read more

I had previously rented moving supplies from here and had a really good experience, so when I recently moved again out of the city, I decided to rent both uHaul and supplies through them. The day before pick up a received multiple calls from them. First I was told that they would be giving me a different sized truck than requested which I was happy about as they flat out told me it was because they wanted the truck to be serviced in the area where I was moving. Less than 5 minutes later they called back again to tell me that I'd be receiving the origins not requested truck and there has been a mix up with his original call. So everything seemed fine until I went in the next day to pick up and they proceeded to give me the truck that was much larger than I needed and "needed to be serviced". We simply asked if there were other options (as there were still several trucks of various sizes on the lot) and were immediately greeted by very aggressive responses from two of the people who were manning the front desks. I won't go into every detail about the exchange but I honestly have never been spoken to in such a rude manner from people I'm paying to provide services. Needless to say the service was terrible and untrustworthy and I would no longer recommend this business to anyone. read more
