I recently relocated to a city in Connecticut approximately 3 weeks ago, second day at a job & told by the new owners where to park given the holiday weekend traffic. I park there, no signage stating we could not, and others who had parked have had no issue. Came outside car was gone and, I panicked. So new to town I called the wrong PD, then the correct PD to find out D & L grabbed it. 267 to get it back. When I tried to explain the situation to whomever answered the phone after hours and ask for an owner to discuss the pricing was shut down and he began to act like he was God. Things very quickly went left as I had prescription medication in the car and my son is in the hospital with the driver then refusing to release my vehicle until the next morning, because he didn't "like my attitude". I hope Karma finds him, and FAST. After reading the reviews online and speaking with the police department DMV will be contacted BBB will be contacted and social media posts will be going up. A friended car had been towed and we were told to go to D&L at 1219 Berlin Turnpike in Berlin CT. I wasn't sure if anyone was in the office as it was past regular business hours. I pulled up in front of a truck that was running but didn't see a driver and i wanted to be sure i was close to the office so to be sure someone was there I pulled in front of the truck. A horn honked and I was trying to shift my car into gear when a lame loudmouth person, who looked like he hadn't had a bath in a month, pounded on my window yelling obscenities at me. As I yelled back that i was having issues, an old man came out like he was going to eat my car. Finally I got my car in gear and moved foreward into a stopping area, I call it that because it didn't look to me like a parking lot. I would NEVER do business with a company who talks to people like they did me that day. I WOULD NOT suggest you use them for towing or body repair. This Tow Truck company, lacks professionalism and accountability. I am a visiting nurse and I was parked in a lot with no signs indicating that I could not park there were no signs no numerals on the parking spots. In addition to that I went to pick up my vehicle from the tow lot I started and it sounded like a lawnmower! Prior to towing my vehicle wasn't making any noise. I immediately got out my truck and went to the employees who stated. " It must be a coincidence"because I have some rust to my exhaust. It is not a coincidence that I'm missing hardware and my truck is now loud. I attempted to resolve the situation with the company to no surprise. They take no accountability and not to mention how unprofessionally they respond to people. It is shady business practice not to have signs to indicate to people there's a towing risk because of course they want to make a quick buck. I did take videos and pictures of this lot to prove there is no signage in this lot in a huge complex with many lots. If I was at fault I would 100% admit it. I had my car parked in front of my apartment for less than 15 mins and they just took it like nothing. These guys are SCAM artists. They sit watch and entrap vehicles and tow them at an outrageous price to boot. My wife was picking up an order from Uber eats, she was parked out front of the business for literally 50 seconds. These guys were watching her and towed her car within 30 seconds. When we called they gave us a ridiculous price of $280 to get our car back. The guy they towed before that they only charged $125 huh. Oh and get this even at their place of business i couldn't use a credit card? CASH ONLY HE TELLS ME? HMMM Wonder what they are hiding? When they towed mine they scraped all the paint off the underside of my front bumper. I went in to pay to get my car back and the lady at the front desk said I needed to sign the paperwork. Use this company if you enjoy being bullied and love incompetence! HORRIBLE customer service. These employees were standing around doing nothing when I went to retrieve my car. No one bothered to help although they clearly saw me standing there. Some genius had parked my car so close to another vehicle that I was unable to even open the driver's side door to get in. Long story short- the idiots could not figure out how to move the other vehicle. I had to climb in passenger side to get in- while wearing a skirt. No one helped. Do not use this company for any of your autobody or towing needs! I was recently a passenger in a car that was towed from a lot within 1 minute of parking. We were watched by somebody who then placed a call and had the car towed even though we were going into the company on the premise. There were no visible signs. Their website and invoice says credit cards accepted but we were told cash only. The company, owner and employees are unethical and have no morals. We are a farm that is a tax exempt non profit. They came out to replace a battery, which took 40 minutes. They are located 20 minutes away. They charged us for 90 mins of labor at $175/hr. Their labor rate in 2018 was $105/hr. After calling to see if we can get the tax charge returned to us, they declined. After asking about the labor rate they said "it just goes up every year." Oh and those batteries that were replaced? They were installed by them a year and a half ago. read more

Gave me two different prices to tow, hung up on me TWICE, accused me of canceling towing service (I hadn't) AND threatened to keep my car if I didn't pay cash when it clearly states on their website they accept credit card payment. Myself and my husband are making this review to report the horrendous and unacceptable experience with the contracted servicer D&L Towing. In particular, the owner John Mecci, was initially obscene over the phone both to myself and my husband (using the word c word) and hung up on us twice. He also was extremely unprofessional and contacted us on his personal cell phone via text message. We finally were able to talk to a receptionist named Linda who finally told us what we needed to retrieve the car as John refused to tell us anything but that he wouldn't release it to us. When we went to the facility to try to resolve the situation, we interacted with a receptionist and I recorded the entire transaction of $204 from start to finish. The audio recording is geotagged to the location with a timestamp of 10:40 AM. It can be heard the receptionist telling us where the car was and that we were all set. We were given a fully completed receipt which I have kept and taken pictures of. It can also be heard my husband counting out the numbers of twenties needed and myself counting out the four dollars in change. The owner's voice (who was unseen behind the counter) was heard by my husband as he referred to me as a "ho." The receptionist seemed embarrassed and apologetic at this incident. As we were leaving, a man without a uniform or anything that would tell us he was associated with D&L walked by as we were pulling out. We paid no mind as we had finished our business with the company. Not 5 minutes later, we received an aggressive text message from John (the owner) who presumably was the man who was outside. He threatened to file formal false accusations of attempted vehicular manslaughter and larceny against my husband and stated he had already called the Berlin police to report a theft. Naturally, we went to the Berlin police station and gave our statement and the recording, text messages, and receipt. We made it clear our intention was to stop any further interactions and conflict, as what he threatened were serious albeit false accusations. He told the officer that we stole the receipt from the cashier/receptionist and that we shortchanged him $200. It can be heard on the recording the confirmation of our purchase from the woman processing our payment and physical proof of the receipt stamped paid in full. He conceded to the police and said the situation wasn't worth his time, even though it was he who made the initial call to the police and threatened these false formal accusations. We are also concerned with retribution from this provider as he knows where we live, our names, and our contact information. He also issued an ominous threat after stating he was calling the police, "enjoy your parking spot." This statement, though not outright, is suspicious and I would not be alone in suspecting he means to take further action outside of the law. As D&L refused to take anything but cash to pay for the towing, this also creates a risk for future interactions where other customers who may not think to record their encounter, with legal and financial disasters to follow as they will not have evidence such as debit, check, or credit transaction. To be clear, my husband and I do not dispute that we needed to pay for the tow service. We understand that due a mix-up with the DMV, our vehicle was eligible to be towed from our condominium parking lot. We paid for that, but we do not deserve D&L's abuse. No one does. read more

Driving on I84 when a rock came out of their wreckers tire and broke my windshield. I know it wasn't intentional, it's an accident and that's what insurance is for. I called a friend and was told they have a reputation for not taking care of these types of things. So despite that I called and was assured I would be called back. That was Thursday 1/3. On Monday 1/7, I called again and was put through to Mr. Harrison's voice mail. Today is Wednesday and I'm still waiting. It's unfortunate this company has a reputation for this and it certainly tells me a lot about how they do business. They towed our car from Metro Square in Middletown, CT - after we parked there, then walked across the street to an ATM to get cash, then immediately returned to the plaza to eat at one of the businesses using said cash. Apparently we had "left the property" to go to the ATM and this justified the immediate tow and demand for 152 dollars (cash only) for us to get our car back. These people are awful. I don't know how they sleep at night doing what they do. I parked in a parking lot and was gone for an hour. When I came back my vehicle was gone. A nearby security guard told me that D & L tow trucks park near the movie theater and wait for people to park and leave the property. The driver takes a picture of you leaving your vehicle and then tows it away. 134.00 to get it back the same day. While I waited 2 and a half hours for a ride to get the vehicle the same security guard had prevented 6 people from getting their vehicles towed. So at least D & L lost out on about 800.00 in a few hours. When I told them that they were awful for doing that to people they told me it was the owner of the theater that told them to do it. My car was towed from my apartment due to some issues with the CT DMV and their lack of communication. I was having a tough experience with the CT DMV and was not sure why the DMV would cash my check for re-registration but not re-register my vehicle. I spoke with John at D & L and at first I had apprehension because of the bad rep towing companies have. However John was very patient and will to assist and point me in the right direction to get things rectified. Very shady business with unethical morals...Known for intentionally watching consumers park to tow away....Do NOT go to Middletown for any PUBLIC events otherwise take pics of where it is you park along with pics of any signs you see!!!! My husband and I took our kids to the fireworks for the first time in Middletown this year and parked in a lot....We are from out of town and never saw any "NO PARKING" signs b/c the print is all of an inch big if there is one....The towing company however posts 3 staff members to watch others pull in to park and walk away, then after 10 minutes tow you....For us, luckily my husband had gone back to the car an hour later to only find out that we were towed....thank god b/c after the event we would have been stranded with 2 small kids, myself being handicapped and all b/c we weren't told by the 3 staff members that watched us park in the handicap spot and walk away along with many other consumers...my heart breaks because I can't begin to imagine how all those other families felt after having a fun night and coming back to no car....when my husband went to pick up our car that same night which by the way they will ONLY TAKE CASH b/c a friend took him, he was told that they get a LOT OF MONEY to stand and park watching consumers park illegally "when they don't know any better"....Does anyone have any morals or conscientious anymore!?!?!
