The Derecho destroyed our 7 ft. Vinyl Privacy Fence and part of our Chainlink dog pen. Because of all the damage from the storm, it took some time to get our fences fixed. We recently moved into a new house with a D&N fence that just needed some upkeep. We also wanted to move the gate to the corner of our house so that we didn't lose sight of our dog or future kids when we were in the back yard. Colton Earhart immediately responded and did an amazing job! He even didn't mind me watching to learn how everything is done (which fascinated the learner in me). I've used D&N Fence in the past and thought they were great, but some of their staff are to be avoided. I really disliked haggling with them to redo a job to match the quote that included diagram and linear feet. I've never heard of a fence company showing up with not enough lumber. The staff person tried to convince me to settle for a weird fence that cuts across the property at an angle to make up for the lack of materials that day. No thank you! read more

Very disappointing experience. The office staff that we interfaces with was rude and seemed to be dishonest. We wanted a customized fence and D&N misrepresented what they could or would do. The guys building the fence did a good job, but the company in general was not willing to work with us to get what we wanted. Also, some necessary material did not get ordered and fence still isn't finished. Communication from office was very poor. read more

I had a very strange interaction recently with D&N fence that has left me with an incredibly bad taste in my mouth. D&N had originally put up the fence around my backyard for the previous owners of my house. After a recent windstorm, one panel of the fence had blown down. I called D&N to find out what it would cost to have them come out and nail the fence section back up. On the phone, the person I talked to was fairly rude and I wasn't really given a chance to talk at all. He told me he'd "add me to the list" and took my phone number. I asked when someone might be out to look at the fence and he told me he had no idea. When I tried to give further information on what had happened and what I wanted, I was essentially hung up on. Now, five days later, I got an estimate in the mail from D&N for an entire repair and renovation of the entire fence; a cost of nearly $2,000. At no time did they call me to get more information about what I was looking for, or even give me a heads up that someone would actually be coming to look at the fence so I could talk to them and explain what I really wanted. No way am I going to keep trying to work with them. I'll just nail the section up myself and if I have any further needs for fencing, I'll go somewhere else for them. read more

Wish I had read these reviews before. I now understand why D&N fence does not want to do repair work. We had a fence they installed that needed repair work after strong winds. They were evasive about when they could come out and quoted expensive minimums for the repair work. We had our landscape contractor look at the fence instead and he found that D&N had used inferior product and construction practices, including failure to use pressure treated wood in areas that would contact moisture. We have paid several thousand dollars at this point to repair what should have been build correctly in the first place. Consider yourself warned. read more

If it were possible to give D&N a "0 Star" rating, I would. From the beginning, my interactions with their company representatives were negative (this should have been a sign to go with another company). The guy in their office who handles the scheduling is cocky and rude. It only took a couple days (a week max) to have them come out and measure to provide a quote. The guy who measured did not come when he was supposed to though, so I was not able to be there to guide him (which made the estimating process take longer). Once I received the bid, the price was fair, and they quoted a 4-5 week turnaround time. Their bid was slightly less than the other bids I had received with a similar time-frame, so I decided to go with them. Several weeks went by, so I decided to call to check on the status. A lady in the office told me I was on the top of the list and could expect an install that following Wednesday (which would have been week 5). When week 5 came and went, I called that following Monday and spoke with the guy in the office who handles their scheduling. He bluntly stated that I wasn't even close on the scheduling list and would still be a few weeks out. Frustrated, I explained to him what the other lady in their office told me about scheduling and reminded him of their original estimate of 4-5 weeks. He adamantly explained that there is no way anyone would have said that, and they have been 7-8 weeks out on delivery "forever." I re-reiterated what their original promise was, and how that made an impact on my decision. Irritated, he insulted my intelligence by saying that it's too complicated for me to understand, and nobody told me 4-5 weeks or that I could be on the install schedule for my "week 5," inferring that I am a liar. I'm in the insurance industry, and with the nature of my job, all of the calls I make/receive from my work line are recorded. I have several calls to D&N from my work line that are recorded - some that are from this man in charge of scheduling, promising the 4-5 week delivery. All of that being said, when they finally did show up to install the fence, they were late (which then made me late for work). They did not know what they were doing when they showed up. Somehow there was confusion with where the fence was going - I wonder if that's because the original measurement was done when the owner of the home wasn't present? Needless to say, this did not give me a tremendous amount of confidence in the people installing my fence. Overall, the fence looks nice, and the pricing was reasonably fair. I explained that I have a small dog, and it would be important for the fence to be low to the ground. There was one area that my dog could escape. I didn't even bother calling D&N, knowing the kind of customer service I would get - I decided to just handle the problem on my own. I can't say strongly enough, save yourself the trouble and choose another fence installer. Although their pricing is fair, their service is terrible. I love supporting a local business, but not one who treats a paying customer the way they treated me. My neighbor received a quote from Lifetime Fence in CR about a week after my bid and had his fence installed 3-4 weeks sooner than mine (he also had them remove his old fence). I know for a fact that he has nearly the exact same lot dimensions and paid a lower price. If you care at all about the integrity of a company and how they deal with and treat people, stay away. read more

What a wonderful company! I just moved into Cedar Falls from California and needed a fence put in my back yard for my dog. I guess it was a relatively small job (160 feet with two 5 foot gates, four-foot high black vinyl chain link), but the other fence companies in the area didn't seem to even want to bother. One of the big ones even came out to do measurements. They acted like they were doing me some kind of favor, and then they never even bothered to provide an estimate! The people at D & N Fence Company were refreshing. They were friendly and knowledgeable and supremely helpful. They promptly came out for measurements and gave me an estimate the next day. Three weeks after that, they were on site and had the job completed in half a day. Very professional and high-quality workmanship at a fair price. Just excellent. I'll recommend this company to anyone who needs a fence. As good as it gets. I'd use them again in a heart beat. read more

I posted a negative review yesterday, and it disappeared. Poor customer service. Wasted my time with sales pitch, visit and promise of estimate within a week. Did not return phone calls when no estimate came. Claimed to have lost paperwork. Said they must not have wanted the job. Could not explain why. Also said they are so successful, they don't need residential work. I wasted one month on D&N; their explanations (excuses) and apologies were unsatisfactory. read more

Super quick! They said it would be 4-6 weeks before they could do our fence and about a week later they came out and put it up. 3 days total and our yard looks awesome! Only issue was that they quoted the price incorrectly and we ended up paying more. They should really as a business bid a bit higher so that the customer can pay a lower amount if anything. Telling the customer that they now owe you more because you made an error measuring the yard when creating the quote is a bit shady, but overall we're very pleased. read more

Terrible customer service. When I called to confirm a quote they had mailed me they were rude and said they didn't have any quote in their records and said they would try to find it and call me back. I spoke to two different individuals at their Cedar Rapids office and both had no phone etiquette or customer service skills. For a customer who was willing to pay the $4,000+ for a fence, they lost my business and must not be in need of any new clients. If there was the option to chose 0 stars, I would. To begin with I reached out to D&N Fence and a few other companies approximately a month before moving into my new house for quotes on a fence. I decided to go with D&N Fence because they were a bit cheaper than what other companies quoted. So I send in my deposit and a copy of the quote laying out the option that I chose and was quoted 3-4 weeks for installation, which is fine. In the mean time, my neighbor installed a fence so I sent D&N a detailed email to let them know that what was quoted will now be different and to let them know for ordering/material purposes. I then received a phone call because they didn't understand. So I explained that since now both neighbors had fences I would only need along the back and on the sides with gates on each side. Which confused him again. He thought I was getting 1 gate on the side and a gate along the back. Which I then told him, no I want no gate in the back and 2 on the sides. Week 4 comes and goes so I call and they informed me that we were waiting on the City for the permit. So Week 5, Monday we call the city and they inform us that there is a form that I need to sign and get notarized, which they email to me. Luckily, my mom is a notary so we got it back to the City Tuesday and had the permit that same day. End of week 5 and still no fence, so I called and they said I was on the list and the contractor will be calling to schedule installation. Week 6 comes, Wednesday I call and they say that they're still waiting on the permit from the City which I inform that the we already got and he said that he will look into it and get back to me. Thursday my father goes into the office to see why it is taking so long. He said that the office had papers everywhere and has no idea how they know where anything is at. They then looked at the list and told my dad that my fence was installed 2 weeks ago. Which of course it was not! They then looked at a different list and said we were still waiting for the permit, which my dad then again told them we already have. They argued at first then went to the back and found it. The guy then looked at another list and said that I was on a contractor's list and didn't know why it hadn't been put in yet. He called the contractor and told my dad that the contractor would be calling me to set up a time. The contractor called me and said that he heard I'd been waiting a while and I informed him it had been 6 weeks since they cashed my check. Which he was surprised because he received the order to my fence that morning. He apologized and said he could do it the next morning. My dad went over in the morning for me and called me at work. They only had a fence for the back and one for the side. Angry, I informed my dad that I had told D&N Fence 3 times that I wanted no gate in the back and 1 on each side. The contractor apologized and went and got the correct gates. He put it up in less than 2 hours. The contractor was great but the people in the office have no personal or organizational skills and need to get their stuff together. I will never recommend this company to anyone. read more
