We brought our convertible in to have a leak checked out. They took it in, washed it, and applied a top coat--but unfortunately, they didn't inspect the mechanical function of the soft top, which was our main concern. When we brought it up, we were dismissed and told not to worry unless things got worse. In the end, we left with what felt like a $250 car wash and spray, without much clarity or resolution. I have a convertible that is 10 years old, in terrific shape but the convertible top is starting to absorb water, not repel it and I'm fearful that bigger leaks are coming soon. Ritchie at D&R gave me a quote over the phone for a new top and then told me to bring it by so he could take a look and come up with another option. He did! He said the top's in great shape and applied two thick coatings of a commercial fabric protector for less than a 1/10 the price of a new top. Great guy, honest solution! Great job installing a new top on my 1993 Mazda Miata classic ... I had a black canvas top with zippable vinyl window installed. D&R uses Robbins tops which are well known and top quality. Richie has my top on ahead of schedule and the work was really well done. When installing a new Miata top, always plan on including a new rain rail in your estimate to avoid being surprised. Richie was fair and D&R's work quality is excellent. Only minor complaint is no instruction / care manual or warranty card from Robbins was provided, which I'm going to call Richie about. read more

I had a water leak in my Toyota and was having trouble getting it fixed. Due to the leak, the drivers side carpets in the front and back were always damp and had mold growing. Every mechanic and body shop recommended to bring it to a Toyota dealer and get it fixed there because they could not locate the leak. Toyota quoted the carpet replacement at around $2500 and that did not include finding/fixing the leak. So I was doing everything to avoid using Toyota. Enter D&R. I spoke to Rich on the phone and explained what was going on. He gave me a plan to help find the water leak and then clean the old carpet or install new carpet depending on how bad it was underneath. D&R did some water testing and unfortunately was not able to find the leak. This is not their expertise, but the fact they put so much work into this without charging extra was really above and beyond imo. I was able to take the car back, without having paid a dime yet, and bring it to a water specialist. The specialist found the leak quickly and patched it up. I then took the car back to D&R and they did a deep cleaning of my carpets and replaced the material underneath them. Everything smelled great and was good as new. Turnaround time for any time they had to do work (taking out carpets, water testing, installing carpets and seats) was always 1-2 days. Rich was very responsive and easy to work with. He was very understanding of the situation and more than willing to help. The price at D&R was $1000 and I couldn't be happier that I found them. I do recommend their business and I will go back if I ever need new upholstery done in a vehicle again! read more

I've passed this place several times, went to the website, they specialized in convertible roofs. I had already purchased the roof and rain guard myself. I was quoted a price of $1,000 to install the new roof. The owner Rich said you know you might have mold in the carpets, we might have to rip them out and put all new carpet and padding in. I asked how much is new carpet? He said $1,000. I said when you take a look if it needs to be replaced, then that's fine. He said this is going to be like a brand new car. I get a call back a couple of days later that they need to clean and sanitize the behind the back seat and upholstery (you can see by the photos, it was never done). Another $200. I said fine, never once did I haggle with the price. The roof look great, it was a nice day so I put the top down. Ran a couple of errands, and as I walked back to my car, I could smell a wet car smell. I found wet carpet in the trunk (they had my car over a week), I found areas that were never cleaned. I got home, put the roof up, and the whole back was hanging down. The carpet was all lose and coming apart from the floor. The $1,000 I was quoted for new carpet was nothing more than ripping the padding off of the back of perfectly good carpet, wash the carpet, then shove some padding under the original carpet (the wrong size padding was used and most of the car is missing padding now). I called Rich about it, he starts talking with another guy, oh yeah those clips were no good in the header, then I'm told they set off a new car bomb in the car so it shouldn't smell. Then he just got completely argumentative with me about the carpet, that he never mentioned new carpet, and I hung up. A week later we get rain. Everything from the fronts seats, the carpet front and back were soaked. Since there's a void between the carpet and car itself, the water puddled on the floor of the car moving around as I drove. I had to sit on beach towels for a week to absorb the water in the seats. I call back and Rich is now coming up with things that could be causing the water (he had assured me that my new top looks great and I'd have no water issues, when I was told to pick up the car). He finally told me to bring the car back in, give him two days notice, and he'll have all of his guys look at it. I did that, Rich was no where to be found, the day I picked up the car I believe he was hiding in his office as well. Danny greeted me, gave me a tour of where they do everything, showed me a car being worked on, claiming they did the same to my car. This is not why I came back. I came back so they can figure out why I'm taking on so much water after investing $2,200. Danny then advised me that I need to go to a body shop to get my leak issue resolved. Most body shops don't d replace roofs, which is why I went to them. I have since purchased a cover for my car, until I get this resolved. Notice my receipt, no name or amount on it, I gave him $2,200 in cash. Toyota said if you need new padding, you need new carpet, they were amazed at the damage they did to the interior. I truly believe if I was a man, I would not have been treated so poorly and taken advantage of. I will be going to court over this matter, and will follow-up with the final outcome. Their work was top notch--delivered in faster time than promised andthey thoroughly cleaned the car for no charge where the car almost looked as though it was detailed. Last September I had a problem with a sail on for my sailboat. Although D&R is not a sail loft or sailmaker per se, once I explained my situation they were more than happy to help. The work was done well and within a reasonable amount of time. The cost I thought was fair for the task at hand. I would highly recommend D&R, especially if you are a sailor in the Lake Hopatcong/NW New Jersey region that needs sail repair. Went to D&R to have my tarp repaired for my bike cover. After discussing with representative what they would do to repair and reinforce the slit, I left my contact information and emailed a pic of what we needed. After 1 week of not hearing from D&R, I stopped by on a Saturday. They were already closed. I called their main number and the owner answered. I told him I was calling upon the status of the bike cover they were repairing. "He said- we are not going to be doing that. We are too busy"...I thought he was joking but quickly realized that he was serious. He said probably best if you just come and pick it up. I was furious at his lack of professionalism, and poor customer service. He said his son Danny would not be doing the job. I asked him why at any point they did not call me and that I had wasted over a week of precious time that I could have taken the work somewhere else. Would not recommend this business! read more

I have a 2011 audi a5. I made a list of shops that are supposed to replace or at least fix soft top. We didnt want to replace it for price reasons and the nostalgia factor, but the lowest price we got got (because of the manufacturer. most of the shop owners were great) were upwards of $2500-$3000. I didnt want to make a two hour round trip journey, if it was an impossible job. EVERY other professional said the rood need to be replaced, so i offered to send pictures but he told me not to even bother, "Just give me a days notice, brig the car in and we'll have it fixed in a day, two max" I have to admit, I was skeptical. It took about three days because the town had the road closed off due to construction, but when I first laid my eyes on that car and the work he'd done to fix it, I was blown away. He even advised us on how to maintain the proper condition. He was extremely nice, the price was unbrievlably fair, and I couoldnt ask for more. My 2009 Audi A4 convertible had a common issue ( for older Audi convertibles ) with the rear window becoming unglued from the soft retractable top. The Audi dealer quoted $5000 to replace the entire roof, as they said this was the only option. But Richie from D&R said that he could fix it without replacing any parts for $400.
