They let people smoke cigarettes and marijuana in their apartments, even though it's a non-smoking building. The smoke leeches inside my apartment, and I have children. I have multiple air-filters to try to get rid of the second-hand smoke exposure and smell, but everything I have read has said that they don't do any good to lessen the health consequences. The main offenders live in the same apartment, and the person in that apartment who smokes marijuana is a known marijuana dealer. I don't want to live in a building with second-hand smoke and drug dealers...especially with children. D. Thompson Realty is well aware of the cigarette smoking, marijuana smoking, and drug dealing; but they refuse to do anything about it. They are looking for a lawsuit. DO NOT MOVE IN to a property for these people if you want something for long term living. They'll do everything they can to not pay anything for renovating an apartment that you've lived in for almost 6 years - they expect you to pay for absolutely everything they were going to do anyway. They'll charge you for maintenance calls you put in several times but were never taken care of. Carpet has foot traffic? They'll make you pay for it all, even if they apartment you rented had different carpet each room. There is a 100% lack of communication between realty office and building managers. I had rent checks be "late" a few ocassions because the realty office didn't have it and only magically found record of me when the manager pulled up receipts. By the way, keep your receipts for every rent check and any special things you were required to pay for. Huge huge roach problem that no one ever wanted to take care of. Let problem renters stay. We had a squatter that live in a vacant apartment for 3 months. Even he complained about the roaches. Roaches destroyed my personal property. They were everywhere and nothing was ever done. Exterminators only come into your apartment if you're home. I've witnessed him just skip apartments with no answers. Paid for controlled access that I never had! There's no security cameras on the properties so you can't get help if someone hits your car or steals your motorcycle. Building manager was nice enough but doesn't talk to realty office with issues. Asked for help with the move out situation where the realty office was trying to screw me over, and neither building manager or realty company ever contacted me. I did not receive a bill and only got a PDF over email. No phone calls following up with my inquiries about the bill and building manager saying she'd make sure items were taken off but just doesn't do it. That happened a lot. Took days for any issues to be resolved. Maintenance people left items in the apartment too. I took the bucket with me. They could not control the amount of trash left everywhere which made the roach problem worse. Manager is never in the office, either. Hardly answers the phone. Realty people are -------s and get mad when you sign for another year lease instead of letting it go month to month. They jacked up the rent 10 dollars at a time but never make improvements on the property and can't even have a laundry room for their tenants. I liked it at first, was leaving on good terms, but after realty office tried to screw me. OHA is getting another call and will probably show up again this year, for the upteenth time. D Thompson staff is absolutely the worst kind of slum lord. They act as though they are the friendly neighborhood office until paperwork is signed. And then suddenly, I was treated very poorly and still have my original move in issues waiting to be fixed. A finished basement that floods, black mold and mildew everywhere, half of the electric in the house does not work (overhead lights , outlets ) ever since the last flood of my basement about a month ago. Still no sign of anyone. If they had come, I would be aware as I do have security. They always tell me they came but couldn't get in or some other ridiculous excuse. D. Thompson is absolutely the most incompetent property management company I've ever encountered. Never before in my past have I ever had a property manager I've even had a complaint about, until these jackoffs took over managing the complex. 10 months ago, I reported my A/C not working. They said they would fix it. A month later, nothing, so I called and got the same response. 2 months after that, still nothing, so I called again, and got the same response. It has now been 10 months, and still waiting. Basically, they will say whatever you want to hear, and never fulfill their end of the deal. Absolutely garbage company. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!!! I would never recommend D Thompson to anyone. We have lived in several rentals and this is by far the worst experience we have ever had with a property manager. They don't keep good records of their service tickets, so they can't tell you if someone has been in to look at your problem or what they did. It can take weeks b/f they will respond. read more
