Giving 2 stars for the friendly service and clean space. The service and ambiance was good for the type of small restaurant that is. Cleanness was good as well, however, the food was absolutely BAD! Im sorry! Not the portions but the taste/flavor. We went because some locals recommended it but it was a "not going back" moment for us. We ordered chilaquiles con huevo; the chips were extra greasy, salsa was not spicy, not well seasoned, tasting almost even sweet. The eggs were overcooked and the complement potatoes with it were soggy and greasy. I asked for 2 pastor tacos and 1 bistek: the seasoning for the meat on the pastor was absolutely TERRIBLE... red like if they poured red40 on it, and the flavor was sweet like almost teriyaki. The meat on order for tacos de bistek was tough, unseasoned and just not good. The salsa was flavorless. We did not finish neither of our 3 orders. First time coming here. Was craving tostadas. Let me start off with the Customer Service was fantastic! Server was very attentive, friendly, & knowledgeable. Main issue me and my partner had was with the food itself. My chicken tostadas were lacking in flavor and had a pretty bad after taste. I mainly ate them because I was on my hour lucky and starving. My partner had a chile relleno and it had larger pieces of some kind of spices that were hard to chew and the rice was very bland. I ordered the ham and cheese omelet for breakfast. The cheese is cheddar but it's delicious. It's fluffy and the ham is cut small. The salsa also had great flavor and not too hot. I ordered a flour tortilla with melted butter to accompany my omelet. My mother had the flour tortilla with carne deshebrada and it has good flavor not salty and not too juicy, just right flavor. The staff was friendly and refilled your coffee. The portions are big so come hungry. Even just the flour tortilla with plain butter and coffee hit the spot. I'm definitely coming back. read more

If you want authentic Mexican food/breakfast, this place should be the spot you go to! I live in DFW but my family lives here in Brownsville, and whenever I visit, this is the place I HAVE to go get breakfast from! It does get busy in the mornings but it is worth the wait. Their chips and salsa is flavorful and the right amount of heat to it. Their portions are HUGE, so be sure to think twice about ordering or you'll order too much and won't finish it all. Of all the wonderful local Tex-Mex restaurants in the Valley, this one stands out. The restaurant building, a small house that stands on cinder blocks, and the friendly Spanish-speaking staff, signals that you are in a place that epitomizes Valley ingenuity--making the most with what you have. The food is outstanding. It is uber cheap. It comes in big portions. Breakfast is served all day and comes in the form of giant homemade tortillas with eggs, meaty goodness, and beans. The migas, my God, the migas are indescribable. Lunch and dinner are your basic Valley staples, carne asada being the one that sticks out in my mind. But I have never ordered anything that I didn't yearn for the next day. Breakfast and lunch can be fairly busy and the parking lot is small, so expect to get creative with your parking. I have heard so much good experiences from friends but I was really disappointed. I order the milanesa and it was over cooked and hard. First of all anyone who truly believes this is one of the best Mexican restaurants is sadly mistaken. Los Asados in Harlingen is 100 times better than this restaurant, and I just picked that off the top of my head. The food is expensive, the building looks like it could be blown over in a hurricane and it is very small and cramped inside. I ordered a taco and in about 10 minutes got my food. I thought that was pretty good. While I was waiting a group of border patrol agents and deputies were about to pay. Most of them were fat and giggly. They spoke in spanish to ease the immigrant workers. When my food was ready and I got up to pay, the cashier was an obese short man. He did not greet me with a smile or tell me politely what the charge was. He just told me in spanish the price. I don't speak spanish. So I have to look at the cash register to see the charge. I pay and leave and He doesn't tell me thank you or anything. The price for the taco was $3.52. Keep in mind minimum wage is $7. So it takes 30 minutes for a min wage employee to eat one taco not to mention the 10 minutes it take to get the food. So 40 minutes total to get a greasy unhealthy taco that after just minutes begins to leak through the paper bag it is in. No wonder the fat deputy was giggly his heart out. I should mention the proximity to the border patrol and sheriffs office is why they go. How many times have you spoken spanish or attempted to speak spanish to help the "poor" Mexican have a better life here. Only to find that if you don't speak spanish, they don't bother themselves to even try to speak English. My family immigrated from Italy to Brownsville back in 1850. And after 165 years of contribution, fighting in wars, paying taxes and being good citizens this is how we're treated. So right now there are Mexicans begging to cross the border. And when they do, illegally, their first order of business is what can America do for them. Then two weeks late they look at Americans like we are not welcome. How is it that these Mexicans, begging to live here can suddenly feel more entitled than the very people who made the Valley. When my family came here, there wasn't Malls or Starbucks. Our family had to pay our dues as did many other American families. My parents spoke both English and Spanish. But only English at home. However, they did speak in Spanish to spanish only speaking people as a way to help them. But these are the monsters that our parents created. Spoiled ass Mexicans who come here 2 weeks before and suddenly feel like they own the place. Immigrants do nothing that Americans wouldn't do. Do you really think that Americans cant cut grass or clean toilets. Of course we can and we do. Do you really think that Americans don't know or can't learn to make tortillas. Of course we can. I just started and my tortillas are delicious. We are educated and civilized Americans and the Mexicans coming are doing nothing more than running from their crappy corrupted country. All you Mexicans, when you come here, please have the decency to respect the people who call the Valley home. Please have the respect to learn English and communicate with the residents who have seen the Valley grow. Right now my brother is fighting for this country. He does not speak spanish. Imagine how he would feel if he knew that he would be disrespected by Mexicans living in the very country he puts his life on the line for. read more

The food is really good and affordable. Illegal immigrants seem to dominate the scene and look at Americans like we don't belong. The building does not look up to code. Brownsville does not have many good authentic mexican restaurants, which is ironic considering half of Brownsville's population literally just immigrated here from mexico within the last 5 years. So this is one of the few good ones. read more
