The old saying 'When in Rome' is all about doing things like the italians (maybe, I have no clue)…read moreand usually thats a-ok. Eating pizzas, pasta, dolci and drinking italian wine is great, there's no denying that. But once in a while, even when in the very centre of the Italian food empire, you just feel like something different! Smoke Ring is a new trendy american styled dinner with rustic interior and food court-ish styling. They play great american rock (Bruce Springsteen 'the Boss' is all over the place) and serve authentic pork and chicken BBQ with sides of coleslaw, baked beans and/or different sides of potato. You can get yourself a great local beer or the imported stuff, it's up to you to find your favorite amongst a decent selection. Give 'when in Rome' a nuance, try this

All-in-all, this place is different but pretty good! Prices were also good - they basically charge by the rib or piece of chicken. What we ordered: Ribs, chicken thighs, wings and BBQ beans. Verdict: The Ribs were absolutely the best. HUGE and well smoked. They don't really need BBQ sauce, but it makes a good addition. The BBQ sauce is light and different but surprisingly tasty. The chicken was pretty decent. If you want chicken, it'll do the job just fine, but I'd focus on the ribs. The beans were very different, but also pretty good. I'd definitely come back here if I'm in Rome again.

So glad we tried it - the place had an open kitchen and very kind waiter. It was a perfect stop after our flight and a few days of multi-city travel. I'd recommend and I'd definitely return.

Jammed packed with reservations, I scored the last table. Just went I thought my trip to Italy could not get any better, I stumbled upon this place. A very contemporary take on food with a wide selection of spirits and fresh brews from Italy and other European countries. We had a wide range of plates. A tartar, salad, pasta with Ragu sauce, deer with chimichurri sauce, wine, raspberry beer, cheesecake, tiramisu and a few dessert spirits. All the food and desserts were made in house with fresh and quality ingredients. They don't serve beef or chicken. The menu is constantly changing, tomorrow will be a new surprise. I can't find the plethora of adjectives to describe the quality of our dinning experience. The service was excellent, the different ingredients and textures totally complemented each other, the chat with the locals about music, etc. The staff was amazing, we can't wait to see them again tomorrow. Yes, we made reservations this time.

I am not sure what the building was, must've been a theater of some sort. It looked like a pantheon and was nicely illuminated. We didn't actually have any food just gelato. The waitress who was taking care of the tables outside pointed to a specific table where we could sit it to have the ice cream. I felt like she was doing me a favor by allowing me to sit there, She kept coming over to ask us if we needed anything. I had an ice cream and no menu, it was obvious I didn't need anything. I know it was her being rude because I saw her doing the same to another couple who was enjoying ice cream as well. They were not busy, soso it's not like we were hogging up the tables. I didn't appreciate her attitude.

It wasn't expensive and it was in a great location (right across from our hotel). We were waited on fairly quickly. There were quite a few options to choose from. I ended up getting the chicken and chips/fries. It was rotisserie chicken with great seasoning and the fry chips were good too. It came with a little sauce too that was tasty. My friend got a huge steak and fry chips too. She ate every bit of it. The waiter was really nice, he checked on us in between cleaning up and taking orders at the counter. This place isn't what you would typically think to eat while in Rome but it was good for us to break up the food week with something a little different (borderline fast foodish). I would go back to a Johnny Gallo.

We anticipated crowds and a wait, but there was actually no wait at lunch time and there were actually quite a few open tables. That was a bit of a concern at first (because a line and crowd usually means the place is good), but as I saw (and smelled) food coming out my concerns dissipated! Unfortunately our waiter wasn't able to identify another customer's pasta dish for us, but it all worked out in the end because I ended up loving our choices. We got the carbonara, which was cheesy and tasty,...Everything you want a creamy pasta to be! Pasta is al dente, felt so fresh and if you're from America, you're gonna love this because I felt the difference immediately. The meatballs were soft and tasty. We loved the chicory and potatoes! Those potatoes were so good I would choose them over fries (omg so American I know). I got the Mimi's spritz, which tasted like a Aperol spritz. One of my favorite spritz's of the trip! It's true what they say about Italian ingredients, and the price point is great. I tried some of my friend's Italian soda called Chinotto Neri, it's like a cola but less sweet but still tasty and refreshing. Mimi is a dependable pasta spot, with plenty of menu options for pasta and beverages. If I had more time in Rome I would have certainly returned especially given that they have several locations in the city. Highly recommended!
