We picked this restaurant because of the great view. As we sat outside in the patio we had a view…read moreof an amazing building. I am not sure what the building was, must've been a theater of some sort. It looked like a pantheon and was nicely illuminated. We didn't actually have any food just gelato. The waitress who was taking care of the tables outside pointed to a specific table where we could sit it to have the ice cream. I felt like she was doing me a favor by allowing me to sit there, She kept coming over to ask us if we needed anything. I had an ice cream and no menu, it was obvious I didn't need anything. I know it was her being rude because I saw her doing the same to another couple who was enjoying ice cream as well. They were not busy, soso it's not like we were hogging up the tables. I didn't appreciate her attitude.

It wasn't expensive and it was in a great location (right across from our hotel). We were waited on fairly quickly. There were quite a few options to choose from. I ended up getting the chicken and chips/fries. It was rotisserie chicken with great seasoning and the fry chips were good too. It came with a little sauce too that was tasty. My friend got a huge steak and fry chips too. She ate every bit of it. The waiter was really nice, he checked on us in between cleaning up and taking orders at the counter. This place isn't what you would typically think to eat while in Rome but it was good for us to break up the food week with something a little different (borderline fast foodish). I would go back to a Johnny Gallo.

We anticipated crowds and a wait, but there was actually no wait at lunch time and there were actually quite a few open tables. That was a bit of a concern at first (because a line and crowd usually means the place is good), but as I saw (and smelled) food coming out my concerns dissipated! Unfortunately our waiter wasn't able to identify another customer's pasta dish for us, but it all worked out in the end because I ended up loving our choices. We got the carbonara, which was cheesy and tasty,...Everything you want a creamy pasta to be! Pasta is al dente, felt so fresh and if you're from America, you're gonna love this because I felt the difference immediately. The meatballs were soft and tasty. We loved the chicory and potatoes! Those potatoes were so good I would choose them over fries (omg so American I know). I got the Mimi's spritz, which tasted like a Aperol spritz. One of my favorite spritz's of the trip! It's true what they say about Italian ingredients, and the price point is great. I tried some of my friend's Italian soda called Chinotto Neri, it's like a cola but less sweet but still tasty and refreshing. Mimi is a dependable pasta spot, with plenty of menu options for pasta and beverages. If I had more time in Rome I would have certainly returned especially given that they have several locations in the city. Highly recommended!

We all ordered something different. I ordered an avocado toast and a caffè latte. The avocado toast was very flavorful from the bread as well as the avocado spread! The caffè latte was good too like most places in Italy where I have had coffee. The restaurant itself if comfortable with some cool artwork on the walls. This is a great place to try if you're in Trastevere however, there's so many good places to try here too it would be hard to choose where to go!

So, in a daring act of rebellion, we marched ourselves to Mammo, who has burgers, because sometimes you need a break from marinara and mozzarella and want to flirt with cholesterol in a different shape. He went full carnivore, ordering something with more meat than a Roman gladiator banquet. I, still blissfully meat-free, went for the Cacio e Pepe, because if I'm going to eat pasta in a burger place, I want it to feel ironic. Nestled right by the Tiber river where you can ponder life's big questions like is Uncle Tom technically cheating on Italian cuisine, or is he just evolving? Either way, 10/10. Would betray tradition again apparently.
