Never mind that it was 100° out, he is always smiling, pleasant, and willing to serve. He stayed after the roofers left and picked up every nail around the house, and any other debris left behind. They covered our pool to ensure that no material fell in it. Amazing, most places will only gove a 30-60 day price guarantee tops, so I was surprised when they honored the quoted price from so long ago. As for the screens, these are top notch too like the other ones we had done. Wow, what a difference these things make on the room temperatures & the reduced strain on our A/C system. Texas Overhead Door - A Regrettable Experience…read more I don't often write reviews, particularly negative ones, but I feel compelled to share my negative experience to caution others. 1. Incorrect Invoice Labeling: The garage door spring installed was wrongly labeled. It was listed as a dual-spring system but was actually a single spring. This kind of misrepresentation is unacceptable and misleading. 2. Inappropriate Spring Type: The spring installed was not optimal for my garage door and its weight. I was shocked to learn from other specialists that the type of spring used was suboptimal for the safety and longevity of my garage door system, which contributed to further issues listed below. 3. Safety Concerns: The most alarming issue was the safety hazard. The garage door, if disengaged, would fly through the rails and slam to the ground. I didn't know this was not normal (I'm no expert). But this is extremely dangerous and, according to even the business manager, should never happen. It's clear that the installation was subpar and did not meet basic safety standards. My new spring with a different company hold the garage door easily open in several position after being disengaged. Moreover, the spring installed by Texas Overhead didn't allow me or my wife to easy raise the door with our hands (too heavy). My new spring allows for easy and safe lifting. 4. Lack of Communication: The purchase was made during an after-hours emergency call, which understandably costs more. However, I was never informed that, due to the emergency nature of the call, the spring installed might not be optimal but merely one that was available and would "work and be safe." First, the spring was neither working properly nor safe. And second, it would have been helpful to know that a dual spring system would be more suitable for my door rather than the single spring that is not accomplishing basic functions (hold the door safely open and does not collapse once disengaged). I only had the new spring for 3 months. Even the manager admitted he may need to speak with his technicians about how they communicate with customers, especially on emergency service calls (these were his words, not mine). 5. Insufficient Warranty Promise: The manager promised to honor the warranty and attempt to fix the spring. However, by that time, my garage door opener system was already overworked, having to lift and drop an unsupported door for months. Plus my door had slammed to the ground, creating strain on the rubber seals at the bottom. This incident shattered my trust (if not almost the actual door) in the company's ability to communicate effectively and install a safe system. 6. Professional Opinion: Every garage door specialist I've consulted since has been appalled by the work done by Texas Overhead Door. Their feedback confirmed that the installation was indeed poorly, and unsafely executed. I don't often write reviews, but in this case, I feel it is necessary to warn others. I do not recommend Texas Overhead Door. There are many other companies that communicate better and can install a safe system. After just a few months with Texas Overhead Door's spring, I had to purchase a new dual spring system, which now safely holds my garage door in several open positions. The new technician even took the time to show me how it works, a level of service and education that was sorely lacking from Texas Overhead Door. Paying $170 for an emergency call should not also mean a lower quality experience. Overhead Door refused to issue a refund. And I could not accept their warranty as I could no longer trust them to safely install a spring or to communicate professionally through their invoice or in their emergency service work. I spoke with the manager over the phone for quite a while, and he is very well aware this review was coming. He accepted that just as I had to accept I was not being issued a refund.

For context, this project included a bedroom patio door, a side entry door, and replacement windows. This review isn't about bad intent. It's about where education and expert confidence end -- and where homeowners need to slow down and verify assumptions. The videos genuinely help level up homeowners. They explain terminology and common pitfalls and make the process feel clear. Where that education can fall short is when theory meets real-world constraints. Understanding products at a high level doesn't guarantee those choices will translate cleanly once manufacturing begins. The first gap I encountered involved usability. I replaced wood doors with fiberglass doors and assumed hanging blinds would be straightforward. I later learned fiberglass doors with foam cores don't provide the same structural support as solid wood, and traditional blind mounting can be risky unless planned around limited wood blocking. By the time this became clear, the doors were already ordered. Internal blinds would have been the safest solution, but that decision must be made before manufacturing. After raising the issue, I learned internal-blind glass units were available, but only in double pane -- not triple pane -- and without laminated options. I would have been paying to move from triple pane to double pane to solve a usability issue that hadn't been discussed earlier. I declined. The issue wasn't that tradeoffs exist -- it was how late they became visible. Another issue surfaced during installation. An existing storm door was removed, and I learned mid-install it would not be reinstalled. That had not been discussed during sales or measurement. The lesson for me: if something matters, confirm it explicitly before installation begins. Install day is where risk largely shifts to the homeowner. After the crew left, I noticed drywall damage, sealant contacting finished surfaces, debris inside and out, a damaged sprinkler head where materials were staged, and cigarette butts in the yard. Some items were addressed later; others required additional time and expense. The patio door also required adjustment and still does not open and close cleanly. I was told the next step may involve shaving material off the door -- an example of how fixes can escalate once installation is complete. My primary concern for the bedroom patio door was security and sound. Based on that, I was advised to go with triple pane. Living with the result, sound performance has not met my expectations. Laminated glass, which was not discussed during sales, is generally considered superior for both sound and security. After raising concerns, I learned the manufacturer does not publish specific sound performance ratings for its door assemblies. The recommendation appears to have been based on industry convention rather than product-specific testing. When I revisited the issue, the recommendation was affirmed and third-party solutions were suggested. When performance isn't clearly tested or measured, it becomes difficult to know whether the product was the best fit -- or whether the outcome simply falls short. If I were starting over, I would validate real-world usability early, confirm important details in writing, treat the measurement appointment as the last true decision point, ask what is tested versus conventional, and actively inspect install day before the crew leaves. The videos and guidance are helpful, but they don't replace pressure-testing assumptions before decisions harden. If nothing else, I hope this review helps turn a private loss into public wisdom for the next homeowner navigating this process.
