Stopped here in the middle of a cross-country drive. I ordered a mini blizzard with M&M's and cookie dough. Phrased as such. The order came out as one mini M&M blizzard, one cookie dough blizzard. The employee realized her mistake and combined the two so that it turned into one medium-sized blizzard. Both were paid for with no offer to return any money. Oh well, my sister paid! ;D There was no one at this location when we stopped by--maybe because it was something like -4 degrees at the time. I don't typically post reviews but I was throughly disappointed with my experience. I received raw chicken and when I went back to return my food and a refund, they instead replaced my meal and did not refund. After taking a bite into raw food, I would much rather have had a refund. Go through the drive-thru!!! No matter how many cars!!! This location clearly only cares about their drive-thru times. We stood inside for 30+ minutes - far too long to wait for 2 small DQ blizzards. It was moderately busy, but it was because so many people were waiting so long for ice cream. We watched about 5 orders come out wrong or accidentally made twice. Everyone in the lobby was growing impatient and began bonding over our frustration about the dumpster fire going on in the back. The whole system inside is just terrible and not working. It would help if the workers called out what the blizzard was instead of just hoping we are able to guess. Blizzards came out fine and the cashier girl was nice. We have always had a good experience with the drive-thru at this location, but please do not even bother going inside. read more

To the Dairy Queen at 5001 S Crossing Pl, Sioux Falls, SD: To the young woman with bright yellow, short, half-shaved hair, shame on you for yelling at your customers in front of our children. We understand that you were busy, but taking out your frustration on customers by yelling is not acceptable. We come to pay for a service, which in turn provides you with a paycheck. My children were in tears in the car after we left because your loud yelling frightened them. This was far from a great experience for them. I will never visit this Dairy Queen again due to the way you treated us. You should be ashamed of yourself. Your co-workers, who were just as busy, managed to treat customers with respect, and one of them even apologized for your behavior. You need to find a different career if you cannot handle the pressure without resorting to yelling at customers. Your attitude is detrimental to the business. Instead of yelling, consider putting up signs in restricted areas to manage the flow of customers better. read more

I was handed this after I ordered a butterscotch dip cone and was not notified until after I paid that they were in fact out of butterscotch and I settled for cotton candy dip which was no big deal, until I saw what they handed me and I gladly sent it back and they decided to re-dip the cone and make it melt even more to where it was dripping all over my hands and onto my car seat. Yeah I know it's only a small amount if money on one transaction, but it adds up. Oh yeah there's integrity too. After a plethora of excuses and helping him do the math, he attempted to give me the food that sat there for 5 minutes while we were talking. Ended up with new food and a cash refund for the combo. I like Dairy Queen, but this location does not live up to the standard (I can only speak as to the ice cream aspect as I don't buy their other food). They skimp you on the amount they give you on ice cream cones. They skimp you on mix-ins for blizzards, plus they don't mix the blizzard well. You get the majority of the mix-ins in the first half and then the rest has practically nothing but plain ice cream. read more

When my family is out of town for whatever reason and we have to stop somewhere fast for lunch or dinner, we always try and go to some place that we can't get at home in Brookings. Places like Sonic, or Wendy's, or Dairy Queen. Now I know what you're thinking, we do have a DQ in Brookings. But I am not really sure that we do. I think we have a shoddy clone of a DQ. It looks like DQ but the service is horrible, wait times can be crazy long, the food is not very good, they usually get the order wrong, the cleanliness is sub par, and management seems to be on permanent vacation. When we go to DQ's outside of the area the contrast is shocking. I have been disappointed so many times as this DQ that it is unlikely I will ever go back again. I have tried to go back several times, lured in my ice cream and chili dogs, only to be re-disappointed again and again. Fool me once, shame on you. Like any other American, I love DQ ice cream. I've been a consumer of DQ since I was 6 years old and my parents bought us kids blizzards as treats every now and then. At 24 years old, I still eat DQ--in fact, they have the best chicken strips and cookie dough blizzards. That said, I have had a horrible experience with the Brookings, SD location of this company. I ate in the restaurant a few days ago, and accidentally left my wallet in the restaurant. A few days later, I tried calling back to figure out if I left it there. As someone who works in the food service industry, I understand the business of a lunch rush--so I called close to 2:00pm, after most of a rush would have ended. The server who answered the phone (on my third time ringing in, btw), looked around the back for my wallet, stated that he remembered seeing it, but thought that somebody had claimed it a day or two prior. He took my name and number and said that when the manage was on duty, he would have the manager call me back. 5:00 pm rolled around, and I still received no phone call. So, prior to the dinner rush, I called again. I had to hang up the phone and redial three times, again before anyone answered. This time I was told that I needed to wait until tomorrow to hear from the manager, because no one was sure where the wallet was. Around 7:00 pm that night, I missed a call from them. No voicemail or message was left on my phone, so at 7:45--when I saw my missed call--I called the restaurant back to hear if there were any developments on my missing wallet. I have now attempted to reach the restaurant 5 additional times, and no one has answered the telephone. It is 8:00 pm, well after a dinner rush, and these servers refuse to answer the telephone when a customer calls. I have worked in the food service industry for about a decade and can pretty confidently say that this is an unacceptable way to treat customers. I understand if an occasional phone call slips by--restaurants get busy. This makes sense. However, out of the eleven phone calls I have made today, two have been answered. It is unacceptable that I have had to call so many times, because no one has answered. A solution could have been worked out much quicker had this location answered their phone. I am very disappointed in the Brookings, SD location. read more

We stopped in here for lunch. The store was so cold, because of the air conditioning, we opted to eat outside on the front patio. The chicken fingers and fries were as expected. Unfortunately, the bacon cheeseburger I ordered was the single worst burger I've ever eaten. It had absolutely no taste to it and reminded me of something that's been microwaved, or at least finish-heated in the microwave. It was dry. I was very disappointed and would recommend avoiding the burgers. Everyone was happy with the ice cream and the sundaes. Everyone also enjoyed the Coca-Cola machine that allows you to mix your own flavors. SDSU students, show your id card for an extra 10% discount. It's nice that they cater to the students. They had really slow service, everyone moved in slow motion, I got glared at for no reason, no smiles on faces, elderly people behind us left because they didn't want to die waiting for food, blizzard wasn't properly stirred, buns were crusty, used cups with numbers on the bottom instead of proper number cards (how expensive can that be?). read more

Went through the drive through and the girl working it kept getting it wrong. I've never had a speech impediment that I'm aware of so I don't know where the confusion kept coming from. So then we proceed to wait for the 2 cars in front of us, and no joke it was literally 14min. Now it's our turn, we pay and Once again proceed to wait another 8min.... I'm getting hangry at this point. Finally get our 2 double bacon cheeseburgers and 2 Med blizzards. Food was good but definitely not worth waiting for or the hassle at the order menu. From now on I'll just drive the couple of extra blocks down the road to their competitor that starts with a Z. read more
