There's also some marked interior trails that are gravel or limestone that seem to go closer to the river. I do not travel those, I would imagine that would produce a lot more bugs. Apparently I have desirable blood, if you're a bug. So, Im not looking to get bit up by insects, so I stay on the main paths. Still have multiple shelters, and plenty of parking at each shelter, & there's grills, there's picnic tables. The dog park is still at Black Road, & and appears to be utilized regularly. Sometimes I'll walk all the way down from Black Road and the trail goes downhill as you get closer to 52/Jefferson and if you continue on it, the path goes underneath 52 and dumps out right behind the bar called Crowd Around Me. Multiple bathrooms along the way, there's semi kept up. I wouldn't say they're super clean but it's an outdoor bathroom. I'll give them this much credit, they are cleaned often enough that they aren't disgusting, and there's usually paper in there. Nice place to walk/bike/E bike/run. Or even gather some folks and have a picnic. Its usually pretty quiet in there. Little more crowded on the weekend, but that's understandable. Worth traveling through. And like I say a good place for exercise.

There's quite a lot of dog poop on the trails so watch. A lot of dog owners come here. It isn't strictly a dog park but it's very friendly for them. There's lots of features including drinking fountains and poop bags if there's any left, which often there aren't so it's advised to bring some bags with you. Also there's trash cans for these bags. The bad thing about this park is you need a permit. Grills are available for cooking. It also has a pavilion. The DuPage River is good for kayaking and wading.

I love finding little treasures like this. We were there on a weekday, so we almost had the place to ourselves. The view up and down the canal was really scenic. We watched a family of mallards preening on the bank of the canal. Then we walked around reading all the historical markers and communed with a strange statue of Abe Lincoln. It seems like there is always something new to learn about our 16th president. We had already eaten lunch or we would have tried the restaurant in the Gaylord Historic Bldg. This is a really nice site for locals. As we live 40 miles away, I don't think we will get back here soon, but if we are in the area, we will check it out again, especially in the spring or fall.

I've only used the daycare "canine college." The space is HUGE (about 5x the size compared to our former Chicago go-to). It includes a nice indoor and outdoor area with a roll up door so pups can choose where they want to be. All dogs are mixed right now but they have plans to create a small dog area. There's a web cam to check on them during the day if they're inside and you get cute pictures shared via text after you pick them up. I really appreciate that the staff pays attention too. One of my pups is a senior and they let me know when her leg was shaking one day. Really makes you feel like they're watching out for them. The only two small downsides are that there's no discount for your 2nd dog and they're so popular getting a reservation is tricky. Luckily they're always willing to put your pups on the waitlist and confirm the day before if they have space for you.

Clean and most dog owners are friendly. To use this park you need to have a permit, which is the only bad thing about it. Bathrooms are available. It's those holes with the hollow toilets over these, so these literally stink. That's about as bad as it gets though. Ironically it smells even better in the actual dog park. Of course there's a few rules to follow, and these are posted at the entrance so you can't miss these. Bigger and smaller dogs have separate areas. There's amenities like water fountains and poop bags for free. Good place for dogs. It's mostly clean and safe. There's plenty around, from the lake to some trails.

There are a few trails that you can choose from depending on how many miles you want to walk, run,…read morebike, etc. the trail is gravel and is surrounded by grass. We parked in the lot off of Plainfield/Naperville Rd on the west side of the street. The parking spots were spacious. There is limited parking but it was not full and had plenty of spots. There was a handicap port a potty, which had no toilet paper and stinky. But if you got to go you got to go. There is also a small area with picnic benches under a pavilion. We wanted to do about 5k walk, so we went south on the path and there is an underground tunnel that connects to the Sunflower trail. We went to the Sunflower trail first, which connects to Henslow's trail. Lots of trees and shrubs. The Henslow's trail is grass and dirt path. Close to the end it goes downhill back to the tunnel. There are wooden posts with the trail name with arrows pointing the direction of the trail at the intersections. Will have to try the Sprinkbrook Prairie Trail that is 5.5 miles. Note, Be sure to check for ticks, I did end up taking some home and found them on my clothes.

We Love Bringing our dog Jack here, almost as much as he loves being there! So much better than…read moreother Dog Parks in the area. In our experience over the last 17 years as a pet owner around here is that an unfortunate amount of pet parents at other parks do not always pay as close attention as they should ; this causes a lot of fighting, biting, and and doggie doo doo going unnoticed. There is a water pump when it warmed up (AND A WASHROOM SO YOU HAVE TO REASON TO EVER LEAVE...LOL) There are two sides to this park one for larger dogs and one for dogs up to 35 lbs. This definitely helps deter a lot of unforeseen problems that could occur. Grass is very well maintained they have a third side they switch off too to keep grass from becoming a mud hole. It's a walk in the Bark...have fun!!!
