I take my German Shepherd to Mayslake quite often. Most of the people there are very friendly and keep an eye on their animals. There are, however, some folks that don't control their dog when they get over-excited or aggressive. I, too, have noticed that there is a lot of dog poop laying around. There are plenty of bags (free) and refuse cans to put the garbage in. It's a little small, but there are plenty of places to rest. My shepherd enjoys his time with his dog buddies and loves to walk the perimeter. read more

The park grounds are well kempt. I noticed that park security visits often. I enjoy the walking path. Most people keep an eye on their dog too avoid dog fights and they clean up after their dog. Then there are others, that are oblivious to what their dog is doing, and likely not to pickup after their dog. read more

Recently, I purchased a permit for Dupage County dog parks to take my 7 month old border collie, and so far, we have tried three. Today, we unfortunately decided upon Mayslake, which ended up being an all-around disaster. For one, this park is small and a lot less scenic than parks like East Branch and Blackwell. The small dog area looks like a sad patch of grass with one place in the middle for owners to sit. The large dog area is slightly better, but there is still only a small gravel loop for owners to walk. Maybe this park is good for owners who just want to sit on a bench, but that is definitely not for me. The cleanliness of the park is also rather inadequate. I understand that you can't rate a park based off negligent dog owners, but the amount of unpicked up dog poop was disgusting! I even witnessed someone ignore that there dog just went to the bathroom and continue on texting away while I was there! The park is also pretty crowded for such a small area. Lastly, I have never had an issue in the past with aggressive dogs at dog parks until Mayslake. My collie minds his own business and never interacts with dogs unless they approach him first. However, on this visit, an owner let his large dog practically maul mine. My dog yelped out several times before he could pry his dog away. Let's just say we left the park right after that along with another dog owner who had a similar incident right after. This seems like a trend for the park. I'd recommend elsewhere unless you got a large dog who can hold his own. read more

I don't agree with the reviewer who gave this dog park a low rating based on the fact that some of the people here don't control their dogs. That isn't really a feature of the park that I would review. We came here with the puggles this past weekend and they had a ball. The small dog area is about a half acre and perfect for running around and having a muddy good time. Pixel and Fedora ran, jumped and sloshed in the mud until they were almost too dirty to get back into the car. There's plenty of space. There are shade structures are nice for humans. And the fence is sturdy with no apparent gaps. Plus, I like the double-gated in/out system to make sure no puppies get away from their owners. Mind you, it's the middle of winter and I don't expect the ground to be perfect. But if anything were to be better about this park I would suggest a paved walkway and for the Forest Preserve to keep up the turf a bit better so there's more grass and less dirt. read more

I think it's unfair for people to rate this park based on people who cannot control their dogs. That's like saying you hate the food at a restaurant not because of the taste but because you hate the person who cooked your meal! This is a great park. I bring my Shiba Inu here often and it's a good way for her to socialize and hang out with other dogs. I sometimes bring my friends and sister here with me too, they call this place the "Dog Museum/Zoo" because of how many cute dogs come and interact with each other here .. I love that the fenced area for big dogs is HUGE, and the walking trail is great for me and my dog, too. Will be coming here even more often as the weather gets warmer. read more

We had a great time. Wednesday Addams is a 7 month old Giant Schnauzer. This was her first time at a dog park. We arrived and 3 large dogs where on the large dog side, so we decided to go in the small side. After she acclimated to the small side we took her over to the small side because they were all female dogs (she's not spayed, yet). One of the dogs were a bit nippish, the guy said even though his dog doesn't bite, he didn't want to ruin Wednesday's first experience at the dog park. I explained we had no issue going back to the small side. He left with his dog and Wednesday had the time of her life. All three dog owners were really nice and the dogs were well mannered and friendly. It was a. Wet overwhelming experience for her, but she had a great time. read more

I love bringing my dog here, the area is well kept and huge! Seeing my dog so excited and happy makes my day as well as tiring him out for the rest of the day! Here is my annoyance, today a lady arrived with 3 kids, 2 were toddlers who ran off to play, my puppy saw them, ran after them in excitement and bowled them over. Their response was to run to their mum and say the doggie bit them! Why would you bring such young children to play in a field where unfortunately there is dog poop and large dogs that you do not know. My dog is a friendly one year old, he would never bite anyone, and we go training every week to try and stop him jumping up at people. This area is for his release not just training! I am regularly knocked down by dogs excited and running through me, it is part of the fun. Take your kids elsewhere in the park! There needs to be rules against children in dog parks here. That is my only gripe, I love this place! read more

I haven't been to this park since my lab passed 6 years ago. As I remembered the people were friendly and kind. Of course there was poop that had not been picked up by owners, but that is unfortunately to be expected. My 25 lb 4 month old had a great time until Sky the husky began repeatedly pinning him to the ground. No other dog did this. I know dogs play, my last dog was an alpha dog, but I also made sure to pay attention and monitor him or calm him when he was too excited. Sky's owners sat on the other end of the park reading and did not get up until the fourth time my dog had been pinned down. They told me it was just play. Again no other dogs did this to my dog. He has a trainer and socializes with dogs of all ages and breeds. I am fully aware dogs play, but we as their owners are also responsible to pay attention and take care of our dogs, not just ignore them and let others babysit them. I saw this dog instigate several tussles, but mine was the only one submissive enough to pick on. Also, as I was trying to leave while Sky's mom screamed at me, her "bro" boyfriend walked up and said "Are we gonna have a problem here?" What is this, a dog park or the closest hangout for frat boys who can't go to John Barleycorn anymore? I'm sure Sky is a lovely dog, it's too bad her owners are inattentive and not interested in being dog owners. read more

Our two dogs LOVE this dog park. However, aside from the pretty standard incidences of aggressive dogs, lately we've had problems with two things: A) off-leash dogs charging our (leashed) dogs in the parking lot and B) young children, running and screaming at our dogs while their parents sit on their phones. Both of these things have happened multiple times in the last few months and make me (and my dogs) extremely uncomfortable. If we could see clearly posted rules/regulations or see more oversight, I think it would help a lot with the safety of this park. read more

I absolutely love this dog park. It has plenty of room for dogs to run around and there are always dog there for our pup to play with. The dogs and owners have all been really nice and friendly. There is also a great loop around the dog park for the owners to walk while their dog plays. Also, if you are looking for a little scenery, there is a beautiful little trail that goes along the Mays Lake area. It goes along a little lake which is a nice little walk for a change. Couldn't recommend this park more. Just make sure to get your dog pass so that your pup can enter. read more

So today I noticed a lady and her friend with their pets , and one of the pets was a small dog , puppy of 3 months , I'd say weighing around 14 pounds . What made me question the rules was why was she in the big dog area , when clearly rules state 25pounds and under use small area. Poor dog was getting scared and handled by other dogs.Now this lady's reaction was getting mad. (Why) for future reference, in general, let's avoid the drama and follow the rules . Some of these big dogs play and it's of good reason why there is a small area for the smaller pets.it says attach photos , video optional and I really wanted to put them on blast , but I rather they hopefully read this and follow rules like everyone else . read more

This dog park is very close to my house so I try to take my two dogs there a few days per week, but every visit consists of pet owners who DO NOT control their dogs. There is always a dog fight whenever I go and the owners continue to come back. There are too many unstable dogs with idiot selfish owners that visit this park. I have sent a formal complaint to the Forest Preserve Police and still nothing happens. It's such a shame that inconsiderate dog owners have ruined this place. read more
