Unfortunately, some bad bad things have happened to this car, and every time I go to a mechanic, be it a local place or a big chain, I feel like I'm always suckered into getting more done to it than it needs. A woman's woes never end. So this past winter, when I was run off the road by a Volvo-driving maniac, and got stranded on a curb with a blown tire, I thought I'd probably get suckered into more than just a replacement. After calling around to some local friends asking for recommendations, I decided to go to R&D. They're the kind of place that gives you an estimate of the cost of what you need done before they actually do the work (shock!) and the estimate is always right or over the actual cost (double shock!!). Most importantly, I was spoken to like a human being, not a cash cow. They explained what they looked for, what they found, and how they would fix it. I didn't feel like I was being suckered or that they were trying to upsell. They even answered some other questions I had about my car. Their prices are more than reasonable. You can drop off your car and leave your keys in a drop box. You can even pick up your car after hours. The owner lives just down the street and he will meet you there with your keys in hand. My boyfriend also takes his car to R&D for regular maintenance, and he likes it a lot more than other places. We both prefer giving out business to R&D rather than go to big chains like NTB (don't get me started). If you're a woman and skittish about going to a mechanic, I highly recommend these guys.

I had R&R change a water pump for me and I was really happy with the work that David the owner did…read more After driving just under 15,000 miles the water pump died again and I bought my vehicle back in thinking it would be covered under warranty. After David looked at it I went back in to talk to him and he tells me that I had a blown head gasket and it would cost $6,000 to get it fixed. I told him to put it back together and I would fix it myself. When I got it home I noticed parts were missing and hoses weren't connected. After further investigation I realized that the head gasket was not blown and it was just a water pump. Water pumps are suppose to last 80,000 to 100,000 miles. David the owner ether has lack of knowledge on how to diagnose or he was trying to scam me out of $6,000. I would never go back or recommend this shop to anyone.

Then I experienced their service and quality. Making an appointment is ridiculously easy. There's constant communication from them when your car is being worked on. They give you everything not only in writing but in an email that you can say if so you can plan future work. They help you know what needs to be done immediately and what can be deferred to another visit. That is almost unheard of. I'm so used to getting a high pressure sales pitch every time my car goes in. That doesn't happen at Grove Street. You're given a list and almost like a to-do list you receive things that are immediate concerns, things that can be deferred and things that are acceptable and already being worked on. They have loaner cars if you need them and they even offer shuttle service to and from your house. Everything is explained in advance and their prices are incredible. It's a great value.
