I have been a fan of Grove Street ever since I moved to the area. I was looking for a place to service my cars and was thrilled to find one so close by. Then I experienced their service and quality. Making an appointment is ridiculously easy. There's constant communication from them when your car is being worked on. They give you everything not only in writing but in an email that you can say if so you can plan future work. They help you know what needs to be done immediately and what can be deferred to another visit. That is almost unheard of. I'm so used to getting a high pressure sales pitch every time my car goes in. That doesn't happen at Grove Street. You're given a list and almost like a to-do list you receive things that are immediate concerns, things that can be deferred and things that are acceptable and already being worked on. They have loaner cars if you need them and they even offer shuttle service to and from your house. Everything is explained in advance and their prices are incredible. It's a great value. I've not had a bad experience and I've been there at least 20 times between my two cars. I can't recommend them enough read more

They do a good job (no complains I just got an oil change and a tire rotation). But this place is way more expensive than the local Competition. They charge a "shop supplies" fee with no explanation of what is included in the fee. for regular car maintenance, you should probably save yourself the $30 Shop supplies fee and go somewhere else. read more

I say this as a guy who has worked in an auto shop himself and done business with a lot of different auto shops around the country (I moved around in the military and I'm picky). Most of them I think we're good people who did a fine job, a handful will try to rip you off. But some shops just exceed any expectation you might set for an auto shop. Grove Street Auto Repair is one of those impressive shops. At every stage of working with them I was happy with the experience. They took the car in the same day, and the next morning started work on it. Within a few hours I received detailed analysis via text and email, and then they called me to discuss it. They explained why each thing was recommended (some recommendations are based on simple mileage while others are actual observation of wear) and they didn't push me on anything I didn't want to have done. They did explain if they felt like thing were more important, which was helpful. They gave me a curtsey car, no payment or deposit. I have only seen this kind of service at high end dealerships. This saved me $50 in Ubers to and from the shop. The quote for my work was well less than expected, which allowed me to get some smaller items addressed like lights and wiper blades. After looking at my bill I realized that their labor costs are actually very good compared to the national average. All the work was finished exactly when they said it would be and the final price was actually a little lower than the quote. For a final delight from the experience, a special thanks goes to Cody for cleaning my car. Getting in a nice clean and vacuumed car made me drive away with a smile on my face. Ever since Joe at Auto Clinic in Norfolk closed his business, we've been looking for good car repair service. We had several lights come on and stay on on the dashboard and having tried other local car places to no avail, we thought we'd try Grove Street Auto Repair. Easy to make an appt., the gentleman was very nice who signed us in ...the thing that has caused me to not go back is ...when I mentioned the dashboard lights, he told me that they charge something like $165.00 to analyze the codes and determine what was up. I asked twice to confirm $165 extra to be charged? None of the other 3 repair places charged an extra dime to determine and fix the problem. I hesitated to write this but I use Yelp religiously and had I known this before I made the appt., I would have saved myself time and energy...so hence I share this. Sure left an odd taste in my mouth. P.S. I left the car with them to do the routine maintenance (oil change, etc.) and I received a very informative Digital Vehicle Inspection Report about my car and I was quite impressed. The only issue was and is the $165 diagnostic cost to see what was going on. read more

The man at the desk is very nice but i wouldn't recommend for inspections. Especially if you are a female. They definitely take advantage, tried to fail me for a license plate light out which I don't even know if it was really out seeing as I was just at a mechanic a few days ago who said absolutely nothing about it and we all know they want the money so they would've said something. Also they tried to fail me for one windshield wiper that worked perfectly fine the rubber at the very tip was a little bit off the track so they failed me but asked if I would like it fixed right then and I would pass I had already been waiting almost an hour so I said OK sure they told me about $16 for the light and $30 for the wipers I said alright sounds good and then somehow the total ended up being $130, I received no receipt either.Not sure how that happened I feel robbed and taken advantage of honestly. These mechanic shops see young women and purposely take advantage of them. They would've nitpicked to find anything wrong just to get money because they don't make anything really off inspections. Being new to the area always makes you skeptical of using another shop but i have to say that Grove Street went above and beyond. How? Well, they did the repair we needed for a reasonable price they cleaned the car! AND put the seat back to its original position! Good job, thanks Update 1/17/18 - the first time we used Grove Street was for brakes on my wife's Jeep. She is the one who inspired the original 5 star review. I figured that she had such a good experience that i should have my exhaust and tires done there. Boy she wasn't kidding about this place. We have been using Grove St. for about 9 years now and have been very happy with their service. It's a family owned business (brothers Bobby and Patrick are in charge with sister Jean running the office) and they are all great to work with. Not too long ago, my new (to me) car failed to start so I called them for a jump. Patrick came by and jump started my car but wouldn't charge me for it! READ THIS BEFORE GOING! Go in with one problem and come out with a new one!! I brought my car here due to all the raving reviews. I needed new brakes. I knew I had a tire that had a leak in it due to air pressure decreasing. My tire sensor light would turn on when my tire was low on air- I would go fill it up with air and the sensor light would go away until more air was needed on that ONE tire. While my car was under their care- they called stating that yes the tire had a leak but they can patch it up and repair the faulty sensor. I said okay. I go pick my car up once it's done and am told that another sensor was faulty when they went to restart it and now the tire light will be on constantly. They reassured me "don't worry all your tires are fine, that light will just remain on". So I dropped over a thousand at this shop and went on my way. Not even 2 weeks later- the tire that they so called "patched" exploded while on the highway at night. Due to not having a functioning tire sensor light I had no idea what was going on. The next day I went in and explained everything that happened. They did an "inspection" and called back and said "yup you have a flat and your left tire sensor is broken"... not to mention they left a cord dangling from from my dashboard. I picked my car back up after no understanding what went wrong and took it to town fair tire. They replaced the tire and stated that the tire was in fact patched due to the man made hole and glue present inside the tire. Grove Street Auto swears up and down that they never patched my tire- and denied to do anything to repair the tire sensor light that will now remain lit up at all times. Don't let these positive reviews scam you into going here!!!! read more

Got me out if a jam A contractor's pick up truck was stuck in the snow/ice in my driveway. He wanted to resolve the issue himself. After an hour his stress was stressing me out and I called Grove street. They showed up after 20 minutes and pulled him out in 5 minutes. The woman who answered the phone was super nice as was the tow truck operator. If I'm ever need towing service again, I'm calling Grove. Good job! read more

Their customer service is impeccable! The people I have come in contact with are extremely nice. They never make me feel like I am a bother or JUST a customer. I haven't had any problems with my car since it got fixed. ALSO, they don't guilty me into tacking other things on. I always hate going places in fear they will guilt me into things I don't need. The man i spoke to did tell me what else I needed to get done and gave me a nifty print out of said things, but it was nice to not be guilted into getting it done right at that moment. I checked out some reviews and decided to give these guys a shot. I dropped my truck off first thing in the morning, and they called me within an hour with an estimate. I am so paranoid about having car or truck issues that I tend to lease to make it "not my problem" but I was recently we were thinking of purchasing one of trucks currently on lease but wanted it to be looked over first to make sure nothing major would go wrong. Grove Street was so extremely helpful they gained a customer for life. They went over the truck top to bottom, referred us to experts on large diesel equipment and made me feel really comfortable with the whole process. I went to Grove st. on a friends recommendation as my car was overheating. When I dropped the car off first thing in the morning I was very clear with the receptionist what the car was doing, and asked them to call me with the diagnosis and an estimate. She assured me it would be the first car in the shop. It was after 4:00 in the afternoon and I hadn't heard from them. I called and was told that the car would be coming in next and they would call me. When they finally got back to me they tried to sell me me a complete brake job for over $1,200.00 plus 4 new tires at over $700.00 My car had just passed its annual state inspection, I knew something wasn't right. When I asked about the overheating problem they said they hadn't had time to look into it. I was so upset about leaving my car for the day to have them look into a specific issue and they just dropped the ball and tried to sell me repairs that weren't needed. I ended up paying 1 hours labor for supposedly diagnosing my cars overheating issue but they didn't even look into that. I picked up my car and brought it to Malloy's on East Central St. They found all the car needed was a $20.00 thermostat, no tires or brakes. I had them change the thermostat and the car has been great ever since. Bottom line- stay away from Grove St. read more

Great service from super nice people. This car repair shop is run by a family, is extremely clean, comfortable & large. The waiting room is pretty. They have many bays so they can be working on many cars at once. They quickly found the problem with my car and fixed it. Also, they were the only shop open during the snow storm and they make a point to stay open in bad weather because they know their customers have car emergencies that need immediate repair!
